Grant Vassal with high stewardship lands for maximum return profit (Pretty smart) 5 years later. Vassal heir inherits land with 6 stewardship skill (facepalm) Total capitulation. Increase Crown authority to put the vassals inline. Give 5 years and there on your throat. This Game is fully packed as management simulator. Domain limit should be increased.
And if all that fails, just have them killed, espically if they're unruly and have trash stats. Having them forcibly march to their deaths is pretty effective.
I've literally gone to war and forced them to go in against a massive army just to kill them off. It's cheaper and quicker than getting them to sway my way.
Great guides, thanks!
1) Hey everyone! Thanks for all of your questiosn with the first vassals vi* deo, they helped shape this video in its entirety. Keep them coming and thanks so much for watching this second part.
2) In my rush to complete this video, I COMPLETELY forgot to talk about Tribal Authority, and that does have an impact on why the % for vassals is like it is. A quick breakdown of Tribal Authority:
Tier 1 - No one can be arrested
Tier 2 - People can be arrested, Tribal rulers can settle, allowing them to become Feudal or Clan
Tier 3 - Titles can be revoked and Vassals can be retracted
Tier 4 - Independant Tribal rulers may settle as in Tier 2.
Very much apologize for missing this, but hopefully that clears things up.
@@HassanAchieved Revoke title or murder them. Or excommunicate them by finding hook on them with spymaster.
@@HassanAchieved Find a hook on them. It's the best way. or Marry them with high stats characters. Then, their son will be high stats. If you can imprison them with a hook, it's perfect.
Direct title need to be given to high stats characters.
thank you for the videos! very usefull help! :)
Thank you for your videos they really help a new player to Crusaders understand how to play the game without going nuts lul
It's crazy how deep the Vassals system is, thanks again for explaining this :) One question, what is the song/guitar playing in the background here?
Thank you! The song is called the Long Walk and it’s on Epidemic Sound
I'm so confused on domains/ holdings. Let's say I'm a kingdom with 3 duchies, and each Dutchy has 2 counties. For simplicity, let's say I hold it all. 6 counties, 3 duchies, and kingdom. Can I give a duchy to a vassal and keep the counties? Or do I have to give him (or another vassal) the counties first?
This seems pretty complex to be honest! Thanks for trying to help peasants out there. You got my sub good Sir.
I wish that Paradox had made some graphs/maps outlining the internal structure in a clearer way (as oposed to just some messy highligting border thing). Yes, it would mean another screen, but it could be hidden below a small button or something. The problem is, that larger empires gets pretty unwielding and incomprehensable otherwise, yes?
It’s crazy complex! That’s paradox for you. Larger empires aren’t really that unwieldy, you just have to take things slower so you have less surprises lol
Yeah, the vassal screen is crap. You can't even see what are yours direct vassal. Grant title is a mess.
...every vassal on the vassal screen is your direct vassal...
Is it possible that my vassal owns a Duchy of Dublin , but the counties below Dublin are owned by several others including some one who is not my vassal's vassals? Does that hurt?
Question if your goal is to make money are republic vassals (city in the same county) better?
Thank you for the very informative lesson. Quick question though...
I notice when I've been a liege, especially once I become a king, that sometimes my Vassals have infighting between themselves and trade titles back and forth.
I can't for life of me however work out how when playing as a vassal to instigate these fights with other vassals under the same liege.
Is this not something you can do as a player?
Even if i have a title claim when going into the declare war menu on my vassal neighbour it always jumps to the top level liege (also my own liege) of that vassal who is obviously not who I want to fight with just to take over 1 little neighbouring county.
Hope my question is clear enough, thanks for any help.
I still haven't QUITE figured that out. It's possible to do this as a vassal, it's just been rare for me to get away with. It's possible that your Liege is also allied with that specific vassal, altho I cannot be sure.. I know that's not the answer you're looking for but it's the best I got lol.
6.38 i don't know if there was change about theocracy but currently you can get up 50% tax if your priest has at least 50 opinion.
When I grant one of my vassals to other, game gives me information about that fact, but number of direct vassals remains the same? Am I doing something wrong, or it is kind of mechanic or bug?
What you've most likely done is gave away a Mayor or a Bishop. Since they only own one county, they con't "count" as Direct Vassal.
Got an ad featuring Ains Ool Gown... "ah shit, season 4 is coming!"
Ad was for AFK Arena... "ah shit, I fell for it."
Should you keep your domain limit at max even if it means having land inside of a friendly dukes de jure? or should you keep the duke happy
If they're already a duke (meaning you're a king) then give them that last bit of land to satisfy them
I have a similar dilemma. Let's say I've got 2 Duchy titles and have maxed out the number of holdings within that Domain by building more castles where possible. Despite this, I've not reached my Domain limit. What's the best course of action?
Do I hoard more Duchy titles and build more castles to reach my Domain limit? Do I grant a Duchy to a Dynasty member, keeping all but one County for myself? Or do I cherry pick County titles from several different Duchy's?
In general would you say it is more important to keep your domain limit at max or appeasing vassals?
Thanks! :D
@@cagedglobe2139 keep your domain at max. Troublesome vassals can be dealt with in many way. Including sway, secrets, fabricated hooks, revoking titles and murder
I need some suggestions. Right now i'm a king and having 4 duchies, and i need to give away 2 duchies right? Who should i give to? My heir (grandson)? My other sons? Or some other vassals?
Give them to people who have high stats. Then, you can invite them to your council. I saw a guy giving one duchie, one countie and one baronny of the same duchie to a vassal. Then, they have everything to be happy.
Thank you!
Please could you help me out with 2 questions?:
1. Do you know why my after making an alliance with my vassal, it says I cant call them to war because they are my vassal?
2. I am high king, and i hold a duchy, why do I get a -15/25 opinion because of the fact I hold the duchy they are in? Are kings supposed to not have any duchy titles? I haven't seen this for other kings/their vassals
I think as a king you may only have 2 duchy titles you might have too many.
That’s most likely why. You can only have two Duchies personally before you get a penalty for it.
As for the vassals, I’ve noticed with some wars you have to click on the claim you are wanting them to join in order to ask them. It’s almost some weird bug. So click on the claim when you invite them and see if that works.
@@HForHavoc thank you so much. (To both of you).
HOWEVER doesn't that mean that realistically, your main duchy will always get fractured every time? My strategy right now is to hold more duchies than I need so succession doesnt leave me with no real territory/levies/tax.
Is that a good idea?
Depends on your succession laws. But your heir should always inherit your largest titles so make sure that duchy is still yours and yours alone and it shouldn’t break up on succession.
How do you take your vassals domain? I conquerd nearly all of denmark, but as i finished the last of my conquest i took my enemies vassals, but i wanted the holdings for myself
You can take their titles away when you have higher crown authority
@@seungjun5766 thank you
Still confused, still suck at this game, still gonna play and have a good time. 👍
This video did help a lot though. I'd say I got 50000% more knowledgeable about what I'm doing, which sounds like a lot until you realize how estonishingly little I know about what I'm doing.
Playing as Byzantine emp. 3 of my vassals in the middle of my emp suddenly became french not sure how because they didn’t declare war on me?
I think you havent stayed focus to watch he mention. Land in this game work by succession law meaning your vassal's can be inherited by someone outside your realm. If that gonna happen in near future, the game will remind you of that problem. Look like something else attracted you so much that you dont notice it. So the absolute solution is high crown authority at the cost of low opinion with your direct vassal. If you feel civil war is manageable than go for it otherwise keep track of your vassal lineage(even their vassal)
If another empire gives them a higher title than what you gave them, they switch sides. This often happens with inheritances via. marriages where the heir kid is of a different house (red drop of blood). There is no way to fix this other than just revoking the title, and taking the tyranny hit or just letting it turn and go to war, after.
Another thing that could have happened is ur vassal went to war outside ur empire (Cause Tribal , it had a claim, or cause u gave them that ability in Feudal contract to make war, or they gave themselves that ability thru a hook on you)...and they lost.
And sometimes... a Holy war is the reason. to where an Ally got ur county cause the enemy turned it... and the game granted the winning land to ur ally instead of u (at least, I think that's what I see happening in my games).
As far as buildings go I know you said to NOT build in the early game especially, but my question is this...Are my vassals building in the lands they control? And should this make my realm better?
I do believe your vassals build their own buildings when they can. Depending on the building, it would definitely make your realm better, but only by a tiny bit since they’re only giving you a small % of their taxes to you
For some reason when I grant a count vassal to one of my dukes or princes, it doesn't lower my total vassal count, help pls
You’ve most likely granted them a mayor or a bishop. To lower your direct vassal count you need to give them a count or higher
How do you keep vassals from going over their domain limit?
No way to know your vassal's domain limit. And no way to help them if they do, which idk if they can even do that lol
Next video can you explain how to get from tribal tech to feudal technology Magyar campaign is rough
yesss would love this. that and the best way to reform a religion because good god all I wanna do is make the whole world pagan but every time I die and move onto my heir it feels further and further away :(
"consolidating those vassals into a newly conquered region by gifting those smaller ones to a larger one of the region". I am not sure I understand this. I have just conquered the byzanthine empire and I find myself 40 vassals over my limit. What should I do exactly?
Hello i have one question i have a good relationship with my vassals But when i die my hier Has -50 with everyone so they start to betraying him please i dont know ho to fix his relationship with my vassals Can someone help me :)
You'll always get a "short reign" penalty on succession. Best thing you can do is get your most powerful vassals into council positions and start sway scheming to get them into your good graces. Or grant them vassals
You could throw a feast to increase relations with everyone off the bat, though it's expensive.
when you reach 60, it's time to save some gold. When you die, your heir will have that gold to bribe his vassals to increase their opinion.
I was hoping to understand how to tame powerful vassals. I seem to have multiple powerful vassals and thus many liberty factions form against me at the same time.. question being, if I have 20 counties and I give each vassal 1 county, would they all equally be powerful and form more factions against me? Or if I gave 5 vassals 3 counties and 5 vassals 1 county would there only be 5 powerful vassals forming against me? It’s a long winded question, apologies.
If you're looking to tame powerful vassals, if you got high diplo you can sway and befriend them. High Martial or Intrigue? Incur dread, focus on the control miltary perk, or intrigue and try to kill the one's most involved in a faction. Dread alone will usually keep the least bravest among them from trying to oppose you directly.
If all that fails. Hope your vassals have poor prowess, force them to be knights and have them fight in the nearest war, if they're trash they usually will die pretty easy.
Naruku2121 understood, is there a way to make them less powerful? Is it territory they hold or what? The issue is I can typically handle 1 liberty faction but at times I’ve had 3 I was at war with and a 4th preparing. Liberty factions are the hardest thing I’ve had to handle and it’s always the powerful vassals and there’s like 20 of them. How do I limit there power so when they do form a faction they’re not so strong
TheAmericanGamer there is no way to make them less powerful. You should take a look at why they are making factions against you and try to do their demands.
@@TheAmericanGamer there seems to be a "military power" mechanic for factions which I still don't quite get. Peasant-led factions will disregard this and rebel if they're unhappy enough, but for noble-led factions, if you have more soldiers in your domain than the faction supporters combined, the faction stays quiet. At least that's how I think the mechanic works.
The factions I see are usually because they have a different faith/culture than me, in which case I simply need to send my bishop/steward and convert them, then they dissolve
nizam624able well the liberty factions demand a lower crown authority. So that’s not really an option in my eyes..
Could you do a video on getting people in your court to have children or having vassels having children. There really isn't a video explaining this. Thank you
i get this vassal thing except... ehm why cant i make vassals??? like i normally can but now when i play as oulu in finland when i try to grant titles they become independent. does it have to do with tribal authority?
edit: you must become a duchy lol
...if the title you give out is the same as ur current title... they'll become independent and will often switch lieges instantaneously (cause AI). Basically, if ur a count (and are independent/no Liege)... all you will be able to create are independent counties.
Well everyone shows how to grant Vassals more land or make them control more; BUT: How do I remove Vassals and gain direct control over this land? May be a simple question, but it bugs me that no one talks about it and I'm wondering this..
Well not everyone know about how to grant vassals land lol. But to remove You have to have level 2 crown authority to revoke a title. Tho they won’t like that much
@@HForHavoc Okay so when I revoke Titles I get direct control over their land? Thank you for answering :) I know that I can use hooks for example to make it less bad..
Yes you will take control over that land.
How do you make a theocratic Vassal ?
You cannot force a theocratic vassal. They only come from your council's high priest person
When I go to war my Vassals never raise their troops to help out. Is that normal?
In the video I stated that vassals do not participate in your wars and their levies are part of your main army.
But you can make an alliance with them and if u ask them for help they ll go
I want to play this game so bad but it looks SO COMPLICATED.
Get it on Games Pass for PC. Try it out. Use my videos. You’ll get the hang of it. Oh and don’t be afraid to fail. Seriously lol
I agree with Havoc. I tried to get in to CK2 recently and had a difficult time. I waited for this to come out and have slowly began learning. I still suck but getting it more and more. Even CK2 makes much more sense, even if I may likely never play it now.
Just wanted to say I thought this game would be to complicated, decided to get it on gamepass, and I am having am exceptionally great time with the game. In my first save I've managed to turn Ireland into an empire despite the fact I've never played this series before so you should check it out
It's easier to play than Civilization, actually....
Where is this music from?
The song is called the Long Walk
@@HForHavoc by who? Lots of versions. Thanks a ton!
@@HForHavoc All I found was the Jimmy Wahlsteen version and its not this exact version; what version is this?
Look it up on epidemic sound. That’s where I get all of my music from
I’ve edited it to where it repeats the first part only
I dont understand why my vassals can conquer foreign territories without my permission, how can i resolve it?
You can't. Vassals have free reign to conquer whatever they want, they do not need your permission to do much of anything.
@@HForHavoc Oh thanks
How do I upgrade my crown authority as a catholic
Prestige and the right technology
Havoc thanks! But also how do I fix that i lose territory on vassal death. Like if one of my vassals die, i will lose land and not inherit og it wont be inherited within my liege
That's a bit more complex. Best way is to either marry into the title or to increase your crown authority were titles can be revoked, OR increase it further to where titles cannot be inherited by anyone outside of your realm.
Am i the chosen 1st one??
13:43 what if you're a count?
If you only own one county then obviously you wouldn't be able to gift a title to a vassal. This only applies to players with more than one.
@@HForHavoc actually if you are a count with many counties you can do it but the new count will be independent - or vassal of your vassal
You don't talk about how having way over the limit of domain can be a benefit?
I don't believe there is any benefit to going over your domain limit
How about giving your Vassals a gift?
I find the opinion modifier you get is rarely worth the price of gold you'll gift them. There are several other ways that are less resource intense for you
@@HForHavoc I forget, but how big is the opinion modifier, and for how many years?
It's not a set amount, there are a lot of factors in how much you pay, how much opinion you gain and how long
@@HForHavoc Oh, I didn't know that. Thanks :)
@@HForHavoc Can you give a person a Duchy Title if he doesn't hold any other land?
Please please please! Can you make a tutorial on how to Play as A Vassal? Like where you have a Leige and eventually break away and become your own King or Duke? I want to recreate a Famous Knight from History El Cid! From Valencia Span and become the King of Spain... but I will start under and Emirate.
Still frustrated constantly by poor choices my vassals make. I'm very secure in norway and sweeden, working towards making scandinavia, but at some point you have to make vassals. My controlled growth suddenly includes random lands in the g*ddamn mediterranian sea... wtf vassals. I end up with just random land all over the g*ddamn map which keeps me in a constant state of war over shit I don't care about and never wanted to begin with. Making vassals is the worst possible thing you can do to yourself - I hate it! game needs to let me assign them a goal or something, rather than just letting lose like rabid rabbits to create spawn and fractured territory all over the map.
I've learned to semi-embrace it as a way to further my renown by granting independence to family members, but the problem isn't that it happens, it's mostly I never have any idea that it happened until some kingdom i've never seen before is suddenly declaring war on ME as if it is somehow my problem that a random vassal inherited 3 counties in africa or conquered a piece italy for unknown reasons. I gave them 2/4 counties in scotland so they would complete the duchy, not make war in the mediterrainian sea. Pisses me off that i have no control over vassals but im responsible for everything they do.
That's the point of vassals though, and has at least some flair of historical accuracy to it. Vassals aren't meant to be 100% loyal to you nor act in your best interests, and if they could find a way to drag their liege into a war then they absolutely would lol.
Were it not for vassals and the random crap they do, it'd be way too easy for the player to snowball the map, which already occurs a bit too early in the game in my opinion.
@@HForHavoc this is totally true. Not sure why it bothers me so much in this game, perhaps im just used to having the ability to at least point them in a direction, rather than letting loose chaos. Perhaps it's because it's a bit too one sided. Seems to me for being a powerful ruler, we have no power short of military power. If how they act is true, and represented, where is the ability of rulers to impose there will? Ya i can kill ppl or take their titles away, but neither that vassal or the next learns a lesson, and doesn't change behavior. Obviously that all way to complicated to code, so i'd just like to be able to point them at something and let them act as they would, not randomly.
50 hours in game and I still keep getting fk'ed over after succession, it doesnt make sense. I just want direct inheritance to my oldest son. This issue is turning a 10/10 game into insane frustration.
Well, the game is crap with this. Everything is locked behind a wall. Since you can't have the good heritage law (Even if your council is ok to change the law), you need to do only one son. And murder the others. Best is to divorce from your wife if she gave you a son. And take a new one older who can't give you child. Thoses locks are a little bit annoying.
PDX don't know how to make a fun game. There is a lack of content. They need you to let you in the game. So they force you to grind, to unlock features. That's pretty boring.
Early game...either quit making so many kids or disinherit all of them, except for one.
I know it’s historically accurate, but it’s funny when you’re fighting a defensive war over a claim another nation is pressing against one of your vassals. You’d think they’d do everything in their power to keep their own Castle while you (his overlord) leafs the grand army. NOPE!
I have recently ran into this problem, and feel this is NOT historically accurate. Sure, they send some troops to your levy as tribute, but they'll sit on the remaining 70% or so in their holdings, not doing ANYTHING.... even when they have armies attacking them, and standing directly on top of their holding sieging it. How is it 'historically accurate' for someone to allow their city to be sacked and family killed while doing nothing?
why do you use that resolution ? is very annoying
What do you mean
