Pirates winning 98 games is crazy
ikr
They were good in the early 2010s before blowing it up in '18
Not really if you followed baseball they had a lot of talent that they surprisingly didn’t trade… yet
Their only shot
And the Rockies making the postseason!
Cubs had the talent to be there after '16
Just shows how difficult it is to make it in the Fall Classic whatever League AL or NL
They should’ve been able to win the pennant in 2018. They weren’t gonna win it all, but they had the best record in the NL until the Brewers embarrassed them at Wrigley. It was so unfortunate.
Cubs were supposed to be the Astros before the Astros. I’m no Cubs fan but that core they had with Bryant/Rizzo/Baez/Contreras/etc was insane. Injuries, major decline, and a lack of spending ruined their dynasty chances.
@@lamasizzy0599 good take
Astros: laughing 😂
@@GC-yw1mne really chocked that year. But I think we weren’t going to beat the Red Sox had we made it.
The NL is really strong this year, so I don't expect us to be a playoff team, but we can start brining up prospects this year, get them some experience and challenge in 2024.
Not gonna happen
@@mrstewns as a dodger fan i hope it does. i love wrigley field when i went and the aura of the cubs is just so warm and nice
I can see that! FYI, you have a nice channel. Recently watched one of your videos. Well done analysis and overall content! I typically don't love horror, it scares tf outta me haha
@@iTalkStudios lol i watch their videos all the time and didn’t notice it was them 💀
I totally agree,it doesn't make sense to have all this talent at the minor league level! Gotta play Mervis plus have a couple other prospects on this team, this year.Been going to spring training for years, and imo the cubs have more talent then we have had in years!
Being a Cubs fan, seeing the guys I grew up on leave definitely did not feel good,(Especially Rizzo) but I do think that these signings this offseason will help the Cubs immensely during 2023. And losing our stars won’t leave that long of an impact as we expected before.
As another cub fan, this is so true
I think trading them was the best move. It did hurt because I’ve been watching since the early 90’s and this was “the team” but I feel good about 23 and beyond!
Rizzo is the one that really hurt. Not as much because of his play but because of his personality, leadership and involvement in the community.
As cub fan I didn’t mind losing the big 3 because I new it was necessary but when contreras left that one kind of hurt since he said he was destined to be a cardinal, but that’s baseball.
I wouldn’t of minded had he gone to Houston but over there🤦♂️
As a Sox fan I hated Contreras because he’s so fucking good
I watched a video this week about the “5 hardest hits by Cubs in 2022”… it should have been posted as “Wilson Contreras’ 5 hardest hits in 2022”
They were ALL his hits
Hated to see him leave, but I hated it even more when I found out he was going to the Cardinals
:-(
As a Cardinals fan.... 😂 😂 😂 you know why I like dating Cubs fans? Because they never expect a ring! 😝
@@daryldixon3685 lol that was pretty good 😂
Rizzo being traded will forever hurt, I knew that it was necessary for the core pieces to be traded in order to get a rebuild started, but I had hoped that Rizzo would remain a Cub for life.
Not really Rizzo didn't really do much but hijacked the World Series from Bryant and Baez and took credit for it. It really the former two leaving that brought the team down.
Jason Hayward's contract as a cub is probably worth its own video tbh
Yep. It was horrible and prevented some signing key players.
Though he *did* motivate the Cubs in Game 7 in '16, so it's not like he didn't contribute *anything* in his time there.
The downfall of the Cubs were the trade for Jose Quintana, the unwillingness to trade for Jason Verlander later that year, and not being able to draft at the bottom of the first round once they started turning around to a winning team in 2015. I believe they had a five year span of six first round picks that never played for the Cubs major league roster till last season when one of the pitchers got a spot start and got lit up.
Yup
Dont forget getting guys who shouldn’t have been here like Descalso and Chatwood. Guys who they should’ve kept from trades like Castellanos and Alex Avila. Not addressing the leadoff man problem when Fowler left. And the trades of our prospects for bullpen guys who pitched like sh*t. They didnt even attempt and still aren’t when they get arms who throws a 4 or almost 5 ERA, especially when it came to that Harper grand slam game! Plus the inflated contract of Heyward and to an extent Darvish
They played in 3 consecutive NLCS... Lots of franchises would be happy with that
Seriously. I’d call any season that ends in a Championship Series, a success. To be in the final 4 is impressive especially with how chaotic playoff baseball is
still a massive failure vs their expectations
When you set low expectations you are accepting failure simple as that …… if your not first your last
What I’m trying to say is no one cares if your 2nd place or last place……people only care if your first place
@@markgiles2938 that’s a remarkably dumb thing. Is the Phillies season a failure because they didn’t win the World Series
As a long time Cub fan, them playing in 3 consecutive NLCS's and winning a World Series... yeah, that's reaching the mountain top. When they won, I felt relief more than elation. It felt like closure to the first half of my life. Do I want them to win again? Absolutely. But my boogeyman was slayed. We won. Michael Myers is dead. If there's another curse, it'll be for the next generation of Cubs fans. Godspeed to them. I'll be around to watch as long as I have breath.
Strap in dude I've been a cub fan for decades and my grandma never got to see them win a world series it took a 100yrs so they way the cub organization is it banks it off the backs of fans so why should a cub organization need a championship it shows its fans what matters and not winning a world series is what this team is good at being losers
I haven’t seen you do any content on the Orioles, I would love to see your take on where they are as an organization under the leadership of their GM Mike Elias.
It's called a rebuild. Being a cubs fan I am so exited to see this outfield grow and all of them becoming super stars just watch. 👀
As a Cubs fanatic I will always cherish the era of excellence at Friendly Confines from 15-20, but I feel it won't be that much longer until the product is back to top of the NL, we already have 5/9 lineups spots settled with Ian Happ and Seiya Suzuki commanding the corner outfield, and we have 3 top 100 prospects who play CF, so one of Brennen Davis, PCA, and Kevin Alcántara should be good, then we have Dansby Swanson and Nico Hoerner standing in the Middle Infield, then hopefully we'll sign a 3b in next FA, (Chapman, Devers, and Machado will be available) and up and coming prospect Matt Mervis will command 1b, and then sign a new catcher. As for the pitching, our rotation really over-performed in the 2nd half last season, Justin Steele pitched like 2015 Jake Arrieta, Drew Smily, Adiran Sampson, Javier Assed, Hayden Wesneski, and Stroman all put together a strong rotation. Then for the Bullpen, the Cubs over the last 7 years have been discreetly one of if not the best team in Baseball when it comes to developing relievers, and reviving careers.
I honestly believe that the cubs have a lot more than just 5 good players on the lineup, Morel, and Cody bellinger could be good next year, but you never know
@@z-shibe5960 thats right my mind completely forgot about Bellinger, and we signed Jamson Tailon too
Agreed. Nice seeing optimism! Go Cubs!
The cubs look like they're gonna be that pesky team, thier all unproven and look like thier hungry to prove people wrong, I dislike the cubs but it won't be long before thier real contenders, and not just a one an done.
The era of excellence was 15, 16, and 17. Cubs didn’t win a playoff game in 2018, 2019, 2020
Hello italk, love your vids and the music in them. Some things from a Cubs fan:
-We also signed Jameson Taillon!
-The roster is middling but we’re mainly focused on our prospects’ progression this year-can’t forget to mention that
-We knew we were selling before 2021 started-we traded Yu Darvish to San Diego
The construction, failed sustainability, and subsequent deconstruction of the team is too complex for ten minutes, but this is a great summary. Cubs win, Cubs lose, no more stars, Cubs mid.
I cried when they traded Rizzo. I thought that would be it for the emotions but when I say Kris Bryant hug Rossy as he was told of the trade I let one more him as well. Bryzzo was gone
Cubs were supposed to be the Astros before the Astros. I’m no Cubs fan but that core they had with Bryant/Rizzo/Baez/Contreras/etc was insane. Injuries, major decline, and a lack of spending ruined their dynasty chances.
……. schwarber
Lack of spending but of course Heyward’s contract held them hostage.
@@FilmPassionprod They had insane lineup on paper. Too bad they couldn’t figure out small ball aspect
September collapses killed the Cubs. In 2018 they let the Brewers close the gap on their division lead (albeit the brewers were red-hot). They started swinging for the fences and could never come up clutch. Then in 2019, the core players all had some of their best individual seasons of their careers, but could not hit as a team. Then they went on a couple double digit losing streaks in the second half, one of which was like 15 games, letting the Cardinals and Brewers pull ahead. That being said, the future looks bright for my Cubbies!
I remember 2018, the way I saw it was that they gave up when their opponents score within the first couple of innings and they act they’re down 100-0. In fact thats how they kept playing going into 2019 and 2020. Plus the pitching was sh*t. How Hamels went from pitcher of August to back and forth of blowing games. And Kimbrel during the last Cardinals series 🤬I also think not winning the MVP f’ed up Javy mentally because he wasn’t the same after. That was also BS, the whole year it was talk about Javy then for a few weeks it became the Yelich show 😡
Looking at the drop-off in productivity from those core players they gave up on (with the possible exception of Schwarber), I think you can say that Cubs management is at least partially exonerated. They weren't going to be a title contender if they had kept them in 2021 and 2022, and they'd be forced to rebuild anyway but with trade chips greatly reduced in value. They were quite shrewd in the timing of their rebuild and should be commended. Actually, you could argue that they should have blown it up after 2018. I'm not sure what happened that season. They really looked like they had that magic back and were going to make a serious run. You just have to tip your hat to the Brewers-- they seemed to want it more.
I love me some Patrick Wisdom.... I hope he has a killer year on field and at the plate.
The downfall began with letting go of Dexter Fowler and his .400 OBP as a leadoff hitter, the decline of Addison Russell who had over 95 RBI's in 2016 and Arrietta and Lester never being the same (understandable as Arrietta could never stay at his pace). It also showed many flaws of Joe Maddon and his system.
Between Baez, Rizzo, Bryant, and Contreras, Contreras leaving was the most painful solely because out of all the teams in the MLB he could choose to go to…he chose the Cardinals.
Dang just have to say the way you saying gone lining up with the out at first at 7:03 was so smooth
2015 Pirates.. haven't heard that name in a long time.
*Sad Pirate Noises*
*Cries in Pirate*
The one guy I truly wish they kept was Rizzo, he was there through the really bad years and all the good ones. He was the captain of this team, its a shame he's gone. I'm hoping alot of these young kids come up and actually become MLB contributors, they can be a good team in 2-3 years then. Until that point, they are going to be a fringe competitor for the NL Central, but I don't see them even remotely competing with some of the big boys in the NL East/West if they even made the playoffs.
cubs fans i work at wrigley field and I have to say i’m excited for this team especially with the rule changes made
Same here! Im a field guard
Banger. Thanks!
Go Dansby I guess
Road to 100k this year. I BELIEVE IN YOU ITALK!
Really good thumbnail. 👍
I would suggest that the 2016-17 off season began the decline. Jon Jay was brought in to plug centre field and a flier contract went to Brett Anderson as 5th starter. Although Jay was solid, Anderson was coming off injury and hadn't recovered. Neither filled the holes properly.
Needing pitching help midseason, the Cubs overpay for Quintana.
2018 comes around and they haven't resolved the previous lineup problems and the new off season presents new lineup holes to fill, an aging rotation, and a depleted farm system (through trades and loss of draft picks after FA signings). The Cubs were no longer building for success but chasing it with a desperate mentality.
That brought about the large FA contracts for Yu Darvish and Tyler Chatwood.
For me, this can be traced back to poor decisions in the 2016-17 off season.
The thumbnail is fire
I wonder if the new schedule will have a negative impact on the Central teams (of both leagues) to make the playoffs since there are fewer division games between beasts of the Easts and Wests.
Nice thumbnail 👍
Can’t believe the Pirates won 98 games. Would love to see you make a video on their rise and fall
you could match up arrieta’s 3 year or so prime with almsot any pitcher ever that dude was insane in his stint with the cubs
Steroids
I'd love to see a video breaking down the White Sox and how awful we were last year lol
I love the mix of Star Wars music and a baseball video
Fun fact: Contreras was traded to the Astros in 2022 for Jose Urquidy, but the Astros owner vetoed it at the last second because he and Dusty had concerns he would cause a locker room issue over playing time.
Love the way the Cubs are building their team! They are being smart now instead of in the past. The rotation all pitch to contact, so they are focusing on defense...especially up the middle. They are not a "sexy" team, but they are going to be pretty good and win alot of close ball games cuz of that defense. I also believe that Rossy is a fantastic manager and will put all our guys in the best possible position to win. I can see them surprising alot of people and winning 90 games and probably a wild card.
As a BIGTIME cubbies fan, I can see them in the playoffs in 2024, that being said, the 2023 cubs will probably hang around .500, and be about on par with the brewers. They definitely are on the rise though. Go cubbies!
41 year old Cubs fan here. I love this team. They brought us the World Series we all had been hoping for and wondering if it would ever happen. With that said, this team is the biggest underachievers in baseball during that stretch. That 2017 NLCS run never felt like they were going past that. I think the only runs they scored in the entire series were off of solo HRs. Then the crash and burn of 2018 where they were flat all year with an offense that would have long stretches of stagnation. I think they had somewhere around 40 something games where they only scored 1 run or less, which is pathetic for the caliber of their offense. The Houston Astros are what the Chicago Cubs should've been(scandals aside, just talking about the success).
Lmfao I found myself in the crowd during that Rizzo HR clip against the Mets
Saw you comment on nerd theory! Tbh not a huge baseball fan (go jay's!) but had to follow out of respect for you g. Best of luck!
Haha thank you so much!!! I was shocked when they read your comment about me haha. They're awesome. Thank you for your support!!!!
You should have kept Urinating Trees song in the background
Plz do a video on the orioles rebuild
Whenever a new video comes out I just need to watch it because these vids are too good not to watch them❤❤❤❤
Til this day I still drool over that lineup with that core. But they couldn’t play small ball in the crucial times got players in funks.
Well we ended the curse and at least we have a real championship unlike the 2020 dodgers
Kris Bryant? Injured and an after thought with the Rockies. Forgotten completely.
Anthony Rizzo? Decent player on the Yankees.
Javier Baez? One of the worst players in baseball last year.
No regrets.
One rebuild year and everyones whining, they had a great line up second half and have added Dansby. Not like were own by Bob Nutting or Jerry Reinsdorf lmao
Very early in the season but this team is looking real good, and their future looks very bright with all of the young guys they have in their farm system.
The downfall of the cubs was paying Jason Hayward $184 million for 8 years, handcuffed them from making any moves for years.
Both their core and their rotation played really well for 3 years. That's a lot to ask for especially when your core players are injury prone walking k's and their short stop is useless.
I still think belli with no pressure is gonna find himself again. I think low key the best value signing this offseason.. I really wanted my red sox to nab him. Not sure that gets the cubs to even 500 but I do think belli and Swanson is a good start to a lineup going forward.
As a Cubs fan, it hurt to see the core guys leave, but it had to be done. They never reached their full potential as a team and Theo, as much as I will always appreciate him, wasn’t able to develop much talent in the farm beyond the core guys. Jed Hoyer has not only revamped the farm, but also revamped the infrastructure too. Much better homegrown pitching prospects and deeper depth compared to years past. This isn’t a WS contender going into 2023, but the additions they’ve made the past couple of years at least give me somewhat of an idea that they’re at least trying to be competitive in a weak NL Central Division. Just need to add some power in the corner infield spots and a potential #1 stater and the rest can hopefully fill out from within. Will always have a soft spot for 2015-2017, but I want to see the Cubs compete every year, not every few years.
It’s 17.5 on Bellinger. Or 12.5 with an option/buyout that equals 17.5.
Downfall of this club is 100% ego-based. Huge Cub fan here since birth. That team had no excuse for imploding the way they did but you can tell the effort wasn’t there after they won the World Series or anywhere even close to it.
Super happy we won, but Joe Maddon did not develop this team of young men into full grown men and I think that’s the reason why the implosion happened. They disability zero self-control and zero work ethic in a clubhouse that focused on fun more than fundamentals. Other organizations develop a professional way, they may have a great atmosphere but at the end of the day they are professionals. It was an epic fail in my opinion.
Well, that was something. Saw a similar content with Dawson Wright or SRS.
Trading for Quintana was the beginning of the end. But ultimately their core players never become consistent over the next few years becoming boom or bust and they never got younger or developed pitching. Also the NL got much better after 2016.
They couldn't trade Contreras because the market and value for trading catchers mid season is extremely weird.
They had a trade in place with the Astros, but Dusty Baker didn't allow it to go through...
We need pitching & some more pitching & a lil more pop, but not getting anything for Contreras was mind blowing, could have addressed one of the needs. That being said, the 2016 Cubs were an epic team for us Cubs fans
Don’t sleep on the Taillon signing as well. Another year removed from tj should help him improve
“ great run” like 2015-2017
The cubs also ended with a winning record in the back half of the season last year and only added to that. Steele and our bullpen was able to hold it down and we added to our starters.
The cubs are better than 50% of teams going into 2023 so I guess their downfall was like 3-4 years not anything like the A’s or other low market long time bad teams recently. I actually wouldn’t say it was a downfall.
Cubs will find a way back. I’m in Houston, grew up in NY, and best friends Dad was Cards Advance Scout,
The Cubs are right there with the energy of Htown and St Louis. Players will go there as front office stabilizes. It also helps to be dealt a Royal Flush by having an aging star turn Cy Young or MVP. (Verlander & Goldie)
The Cubs will be in the playoffs this year with a literal all new roster . What an amazing job of assembling talent for a legitimate title run !
Can’t imagine the Rockies ever making the playoffs
I haven't even watched the entire video yet, but when they dismantled our core group of Bryant, Rizzo, Baez, Contreras, Schwarber, only to go all in on Nico Hoerner (why, just why? He sucks), and Dansby Swanson, we cancelled our Marquee subscription through Xfinity. I'm not paying to watch another rebuild year. Ian Happ- I'm sure it's just a matter of time my friend. Good luck wherever you wind up.

I'd argue bad contracts and trades did them
That Heyward contract is one thing (he gave the speech in Game 7) BUT
That Quintana trade... Yikes
6:34 An uncomfortably long hug.😂
Unfortunately, it's a B- team overall as of right now. Hopefully they pick it up next year with the prospects pool.
They didn't achieve the Back to the Future 2 prediction but did achieve the Parks and Rec prediction
Lol the biggest joke about the Cubs is people saying Addison Russell was better than Corey Seager in the 2016 postseason now Addison Russell is nonexistent in the MLB🤦🏽♂️
Well the Cubs attempted to trade Willson Contreras to the Astros but Jim Crane nixed it
A lot of people want to blame Jed or whatever but I think the blame needs to be given more to Theo. Theo left the place in a mess and Jed was given a tough scenario. I think Jed’s doing a good job. Although I’ll never forgive him trading Rizzo. Never
All Championship Teams come to an end… calling it a downfall over shadows the fact that this is the natural cycle of things. As a Cards fan, we know to appreciate the winning years as they never last. Good job to the Cubby’s for getting it done. Many fans had been heartbroken since the Price and Wood era.
You forgot the signing of Jameson Taillon
I’m positive we win the division and make a deep playoff run this year
... it's so true :( but always and forever a cubbies fan
Note: As a cubbies fan 2021 made every cubs fan shed a tear
Even made me sad and I'm a *Cardinals* fan. Just took all of the excitement out of the old rivalry.
When the core group of players (besides Rizzo and maybe Contreras) did not perform, I understood completely why to blow it up.
80-82
You love to see it
I would say that first clue things would go doenhill is the very season the cubs won the WS. Alrodis Chapman ALMSOT blew the game 7. And it was because Joe Maddon LET HIM PITCH when Chapman arguably shouldn’t have. Get used to this cubs fans as the manger mishandles a bullpen that prolapses. Combined this with the theo’s signing of a certain relief pitcher who was already lossing his steam and becoming a great “what if” pitcher (I don’t need to name names), any lead the cubs offense (assuming that all the players stayed healthy, were available and didn’t decline) would need to really work overtime to maintain a lead.
I would say it was game 2 of the 2017 NLDS during the bottom of the eight when Edwards blew the lead. Thats when the dynasty ended because it wouldve been business as usual with a win from that game and the win in game 3 and probably wouldnt have exhausted from having to play all 5 games to reach the NLCS
I’m glad they won one, but trading away all their prospects for Chapman for half a season hurt them in the long run
How’s it going? The cubs after the World Series you do have to keep in mind that wriggly field was under construction and if you check out the documentary, management didn’t want the cubs to go to post season due to the time limit to redo the park. There’s too Baseball politics…
As a cubs fan this hurts
Why move on already
@@dougg2012 lol what? I can critique my favorite team and still be a fan.
Hurts to lose but the new cubs team is becoming fun to watch. Nico, Steele, Morel, Suzuki all becoming great, along with Ian Happ becoming a star player and adding Dansby. We arent perfect but were not Pittsburgh or Oakland

Cardinal fan here too, but it just makes me feel a bit sad. Rivalry is the best when both teams are good. Very happy knowing we stole their beloved catcher though. :P

Bro seeing bryant rizzo and baez leave was sad
Forgot to mention the Great Wrigley Field Massacre of 2019 when St Louis swept Chicago at home, winning every game by one run in comeback fashion! Effectively ended the "dynasty"
Nah, the end of the dynasty was when the Brewers beat them in 2021 right before the deadline
Kimbrel 🤬
In 2019 the cubs totally collapsed. In mid-late September they had a 4 game series against the cardinals at Wrigley and the cardinals swept the Cubs basically taking the wind out of their sails and ending their season.
Cubs need more pieces to win. Trevor Bauer maybe.
