I miss the -200s, but more than that I really miss the 1980s/90s livery. The current black one doesn't cut it for me (although I understand the thinking behind it)

Great to hear the dulcet tones of Paul Brennan (also a Radio NZ news reader) outlining his obvious passion for aircraft spotting. Flew in a 747 Akld to Raro in 1986, no idea what aircraft number it was. Unfortunately, I was so tired I remember very little of the journey, because I was fast asleep for probably 90% of it! Farewell to a great aircraft.

I flew on this aircraft when my folks moved to oz from Fiji in 1989. I was 6 and it was my first flight - still remember walking out at nadi intl on the first leg to Auckland and just admiring its beauty..great video!!

THAT WAS SOOOOOOO COOL! What a great video. 10 stars! I do miss the old NZ livery, new one is nice, but I flew the old so many more times. The old RB211s had a great sound didn't they!

Wonderful video. My father was senior check flight engineer with Qantas, and he was involved with 747 flight training for TE f/e crews. I recall many trips to Auckland and to Mascot for flight simulators. Oh, and I love this classic livery. it looked awesome on the DC10s and 747s.

I remember went i was 15 years old, my family and i were travelling on an Air New Zealand 747-219B, (Rego: ZK-NZX), way back in 1983 bound for the beautiful Cook-Islands in, (Rarotonga), as the plane was departing at the Auckland Airport, i also saw another Air New Zealand 747-219B, that was parked up at the time, and that one was (Rego: ZK-NZV), we'll miss these great iconic planes, and a "BIG" thank you to both you and Air New Zealand for sharing this great piece of New Zealand's history.

It's funny how Air New Zealand was a latecomer to the 200B's, yet one of the first for the 400's.

    This is a great video!
I remember when ZK-NZX did the flypast of the Old Athletic Park and landing at Wellington, I was up on the hill just to the left of the Sewage Treatment plant on the left hand side of the road around past the old NAC Hanger at Wellington Airport.
I raced up there and found the Airport historian sitting in a bush up there trying to get out of the southerly, it was difficult to even stand up.
The landing was perfect and I got some brilliant photographs.
I really miss the old Air New Zealand Teal Cheat line livery.
Thanks to Paul for his excellent camera work, I have all three of the VHS tapes Paul brought out on the 737-200 25 years, Airside NZ and Perth, they are terrific!.
If you can contact me some how Paul I do have some questions re some of the aircraft pictures at Wellington on the Airside NZ video.

Original video script incorrect. Order for Boeing 747-219B were for 5 not 4... CZcams time 1.04. Reg ZK-NZV, NZW,NZX,NZY,NZZ ordered and delivered. Have been passenger on trans pacific and trans Tasman on the Air New Zealand Boeing 747-219B during 1983 December between Sydney and Los Angeles returning from LAX to SYD in February 1984. My flight with Air New Zealand from SYD to LAX December 1980 returning to SYD in February 1981 with the DC10 was better. Noted standards of cabin services dropped with introduction of Boeing 747-219B at the time on board in 1983. Being a passenger with Air New Zealand between Australia and New Zealand across the ditch with the DC10 late 1970's service was superior. Yes times have changed. NZ is not TE as in the past. Miss the Big 10.

With this air nz livery what type of paint was it? Always looks semi gloss almost near matte. Never seen an air nz plane in this livery looking shiny and glossy like the white on today’s planes. Or is it just because quality has improved on cameras these days?

To the best of my knowledge, the -200 was the last of the 747s to have the three-person cockpit (correct me if I'm wrong), as the later models, especially the -400, would have the two-person "glass cockpit."
