I think this is a very significant piece of documentary filmmaking.
Sounds like the narrator is Michael Elphicke R.I.P. who played a knowledge boy in the Knowledge (1979).
BRING BACK ORMES
The west indian guy in this documentary is called courtney he was dedicated when he did the knowledge a really fun guy well liked ...
Sat navs did in fact exist back then but they where something of a novelty. Only fitted to very luxury cars and in their very early days so not at all advanced. I don’t think the likes of Mr Ormes would have thought they’d have made the impact they did
Amazing to look at. TfL made some big changes in the 2000s to the Knowledge. Incredible that the PCO had dones the same thing for so long...
Brilliant viewing😊
Brings back memories I was in that class, shame the Met are no longer in control as standards have really slipped.
how we take GPS technology for granted nowadays.
When people say bad things about their job, that means it's a great job because they actually mean to say.....the Job is Great but we don't want you to know about it!
I have a few friends that black cabs and I used to say why the hell don't you use the GPS than I stated working and have to rely on Google GPS than you know how terrible it is so many times took me the wrong way the long route telling me to go through a no entry.
Get well soon
yeah
And I thought my college classes were difficult haha
It's a mistake to think that GPS didn't exist in 1996. We got a GPS device in about 1994 and used it to help navigating. You needed an Ordnance Survey map as well to follow the coordinates.
really u can get in a cab worth up to £43000 and minimum fare of £2.40 are u sure then use addison lee min fare £14.00 for a MINI cab oh my
why does every cabbie say the games dead? Hmmmmmm
Maximus Von hugendong because they dont want others to get into it so they make less money
1996 = Pre Sat Navs, so you had to use a map and your brain.
Sat Navs are horrendously bad. That is why you always see Uber drivers driving down one way streets the wrong way. Not to mention the amount of road works in London that goes on, you need a human brain.
does it still worth it to do the knowledge? It seems like Uber kill it
No, games dead. Poober is the future of modern slavery of "cab" ride. So driver earns nothing, but tax avoidance US company makes loads of money with cheer of cheapskates using them 😉
ionutz11984 Black cabs were the pioneers of card payments. Ive had a card facility in my cab since 1998 long before Uber were even thought of
Uber didn't kill it. Uber drivers are always driving down one way streets the wrong way and they haven't a clue as to where they are going. They have had some great marketing but like all bubbles, they will pop. They hardly pay any tax and are losing money. I do not view them as competition at all, they are catered more to those who usually take minicabs.
also min fare on tube is £4.20 each zone 1 so if there is 2 or more of u well do yer maths
Games dead.
We'ren't all Jewish London cabbies,of foreign descent?
Boring. Appreciate how much cabbie's need to learn but watching a video about it...
You don’t get documentaries like this anymore, they just have a different feel.
