My fathers one of his favorite. He died last nov 18 2023. And this is the first song sync to my mind. I missed him so much iloveyou daddy. You're now happy together with your love of your life(my mother)
In 1978 I was in college when I courted a beautiful young professor with twinkling brown eyes singing with this song with my guitar, and captured her heart. Steady for 3 years we've split thereafter me entered the military service in 1983, and later the PNP in 1991. She married a fellow teacher while me an officer in Nurse Corps, AFP. Posted into far frontiers of southern Philippines in BASULTA, and mainland maindanao including Mamasapano in Maguindanao province. I led a Team behind the scenes to produce intelligence that remained untold till this day before the SAF strike on HVT. My distant postings deep south in the service of the country destroyed my marriage and alienated me from my 3 kids all grown-up professional today. My parents died one after the other without seeing me from distant shores. In 2016 I retired, survived alive during the war years in war-torn places across the land and served the country for almost 34 years. I served the country, but not my parents at the moment of death when they needed me most. POR LA PATRIA, meaning "For the Country". I am alone, homeless and straight dead-center ahead to the graveyard to face judgment before God. I remember this song and my college days with my Teacher-girlfriend. Life is too short and just passing-by.
Like many Western vets you did your duty then were cast aside. If there is a next time tell the politicians to lead the army or fuk off. God bless you. Better times ahead for you as you and I simply return to where we cam from. Star dust..

Yes, a very underrated singer, such a shame. His voice is at the same level as Sinatra's, but more emotional and sensitive. This song was actually written and sung by the Austrian singer and songwriter Udo Jürgens (he won the ESC 1966 with "Merci, Chérie"). Matt liked this song "Warum nur, warum?" (ESC 1964) so much that he did a cover version with his own lyrics "Walk away". Brilliant!
I totally agree this song is flawless it's perfect even I always get emotional listening to it, anyway if you want my channel has many classics it has Matt monro also only well selected and quality music czcams.com/video/AJCpPPuzDEI/video.html 😊
My father was a big fan of Matt Monro. I grew up listening to his music. Three weeks ago my dad passed away. On the night leading to his last breath, we had been playing Matt's songs and my dad, who was very weak and lost his voice, was mouthing the lyrics of the songs. Here I am listening to Matt's songs in memory of my dad.
Hi Marilyn Its wonderfull that you have a great time listening remembering the good times with your Dad enjoying the scene music in your memory . I have my dad in memory pushing me on a 3 wheel bike he was killed in the war . At mid 80 now every day he pushes me. Do enjoy your memories as I do!

Today is 10/18/2019 and I am definitely still listening to Matt Monro. He has been one of my very favorite British singers since I first heard him on the radio so many years ago. R.I.P. Matt!
Means so much to me. Was one of my wife's favourites. She's gone now - reached the stars. The bit that starts "goodbye my love" still brings a lump to my throat. See you in the stars one day my love.
I had my 1st broken heart with this song.....I sang this for years afterwards... What magic this song was , It got me through typical teenage grief (worst kind ever) Thank you Matt. My generation will never forget artists such as yourself. Peggy Wood
my dad would always sing this for us when we were babies/kids. then he died of lung cancer last year on june 19. my brother sang this before my dad was burried. he didnt get to celebrate my youngest brother's 1st birthday. and everytime id sing this to my youngest brother,,he automatically stops crying. i miss my dad so much. when we were at the hospital(weeks before he died),,he was already losing his mind,,his memories were getting poor each passing day. some nights hed ask me or my mom or my other siblings what our names are. hed talk about his children(us) as if we were complete strangers(because he also lost his eyesight) and even if we tell him our names he would just laugh it off and say "no youre not my daughter" becuase he was rlly losing it. but seeing him happily talking about us,,melted my heart. this song holds a very special place in my heart. i will never forget the nights hed be home late bcoz of work and tickle me when im fake sleeping. i will never forget the busy days in school wherein id always see his texts at exactly 5pm(class dismissed) telling me to go staright home. telling me to text him when im already on my way. telling me to text him if im already near. will never forget his never ending life lessons for all of us. i love him so much. Good night my friends & especially to Peter for uploading these great songs with a great singer in Matt Monro. I listen to this music on a daily basis & never tire of it. This is rather poignant coming from an 89 year old female. God bless us all. I must "Walk Away" for now but will check back in tomorrow. Lord willing.
FOR SURE along with NAT King Cole , MATT MONRO is like a Comet that appears each 76 years !!! He sings as he is breathing, without no effort...he is just breathing with total emotion, a gift that God gave him, great MATT! And more : he pronounces each word so clean that makes easy to foreigners to learn English!!!! Listen to those strings, that voice. Completely phenomenal.
Over a half century later this is still a beautiful song to me that I enjoy listening to. Takes me back to when...
Since he's been away we haven't heard another Great Talent, Voice, Style, elegance.....but he WALKED AWAY , but he will be always in our hearts!!!! FOR KEEPS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So true!
I absolutely agree with you. Along with the velvet voice of Nat King Cole, he remains one of the greatest voices of the 20th century . . .
When I heard this song..I remember my father always played this on the road, he's passed away 13 years ago..I missed him
How wonderful 2 recollect those joy and happiness that I been experienced during my youthful day's. It's a very nice songs of yesterday'
