Data Logging Test on Castle XLX2 using Mobile App. 8s RC Boat 1800kv motor, it's insane!!

  • The Castle Creations Hydra XLX2 has amazing features such as data logging.
With minimal videos covering this topic & literally none showing it being used on the Cell Phone mobile App, I decided to test this feature for the very first time and film the process.
The Oxidean Dominator is a Carbon Fiber Mono Hull RC boat that I've installed a 4092 8s capable Posdeidon Motor into, paired with the Hydra XLX2. While this setup is way over-powered for my current conditions, I simply wanted to test the features and limits of my setup.
Both the ESC & the motor are limited to a maximum of 8s/ 33.6v input. I recently added the Castle Capacitor bank to help keep down on Ripple voltage under wide open throttle pulls.
All these tests in the pond are in preparation for future speed runs at my local Lake. Once I find the right CG & Prop combo, we're going for All out speed Runs! Weather Permiting.

Good run, and I loved the data logging. Killer info for sure

“It’s 40 degrees outside, let’s go rip this thing”
I like this guy already 👍 that’s dedication.
You know what’s interesting is I’ve never really noticed my electronics running that much cooler in the winter.
Data logging is great but what I would like to sea is what peak rpm’s the a motor is turning as apposed to what the math says. I also would like to know what the voltage is coming out of the ESC.

Thanks! I'm eager for warm weather and a trip to the lake for full speed hits!

I need to learn how to do that

Love your videos, I am shooting for 90 mph for my dominator (85 so far ) I am running the SMC v3 5200, I noticed you have the 6200 4s twins, do they fit on the side
    Thanks Mark

They do not! Smc says the 5300s won't be available again until April! The 6200 are too heavy in my opinion. They fit if you Remove 1 motor mount screw & swap the battery tray screws . The 5500 pink 4s packs fit excellent. Next I'm Going to try a different brand and see

I got the tppower factory to send me a standard rotor for my SVM it only runs 6s now but it’s 2580 kv so 57276 rpm minus load. The extra clearance of the metal rotor mucks up with the position sensing of the rotor and makes the esc run hot I blew a hydra and a ZTW and a flycolor all on just 6 s not the advertised 8s of the hydra.

Damn, I got the 2180kv svm. 4060. Are they just a tighter clearance inside? I reckon I better keep a close eye on the temperatures then! Or does the SVM have more clearance & the esc doesn't know what way to spin the rotor?

@@H2oMechanic2RC it knows what way to spin but the extra rotor clearance and the metal sleeve make the esc work harder to work out the rotor position or that’s what I e been told.
Sam Halstrom burned out 2 hydra x esc and just threw his SVM aside so who knows if your lower kv and longer can might work but the guy from race mechanics who has the fastest zipkits 33” rigger in the world at 148 mph gave the information about the SVM issues and he recommended the stock motor.
Sam posted his logged data on the SVM and now runs a standard rotor TP 4050 2310 kv on 8 s
Anyway I hope you have not wasted your money.
      Good luck.
By the way I put the standard rotor made to retro fit the svm from TPPower rather than buying the stock complete motor because the SVM has a really high amp rating. So far I’ve run it just with a small prop on 6s with the new ZTW 200 amp g2 so I can log data
I’ll look at the numbers before starting to prop up.
ZTW are a bad company the lie and don’t warrant their esc’s
I got caught with a few burning so hopefully this one don’t explode. It was 467 Australian dollars.

How does it determine the rpm’s, that is are you using an electronic eye or is it counting the timing ?
Just curious because when ever I do the math it just doesn’t pan out like you would think.

I think its setup 1 to 1 in the settings, so if I did it again I'd factor in 20% load reduction to get a closer rpm. I believe it factors rpm based on voltage and KV. But I'm not sure, it might be able to sense rpm based on 3 phase pulse rate

My data logger ☝️, I may be a little archaic 🫣, but it might be time to actually try the b-link hiding in a drawer 😉 thanks for the motivation
