How GOOD was Mark Hunt Actually?
Mark Hunt was has had a rollercoaster of an MMA career. The man who was on the brink of being paid to stop fighting became one of the MMA's highest earners as at one point, he would make $750 000 to show up and fight.
But with a record of 13 wins and 14 losses with 1 draw and 1 no contest, how good was Mark Hunt Actually?

He was 100% clean his whole career and he fought a lot of people on steroids

He would've won more if his opponents weren't on steroids

I'm so happy to hear he was making 750k per fight on his last 6 fight deal. Good. He deserves every penny and more

Are you kidding me, he fought the very best fighters on the planet, and he was fighting guys on steroids. He is one of the best heavyweight fighters ever, as far as I'm concerned.

This beast took a prime Crocop left kick to the noggin, got knocked down and stood up smiling.

This is the most respectful display of Mark Hunt's career

The man was a legend. Especially considering how old he was when he started his MMA career. If you include his K-1 career his record suddenly becomes much more impressive. Keep in mind that he started his MMA career at age 30 and went straight into the best heavy weight division at the time and quite possibly ever. Fedor, Big Nog, Crocop, and Josh Barnett to name a few. Mpst fighters start their career with about 10 fights at a lower level to prove themselves and get used to MMA. He didn't get that at all.

Right leg hospital, left leg morgue unless you’re Mark Hunt. Hunt was consistently the best fight to watch - always put on a show, no BS, swing hard and see what happens. Miss the Beast.

“I will probably end my life fighting… I’ve been fighting since I was a child, fighting to get out of my circumstances. I used to make $300 a week, struggling to put food on the table but I have become one of the highest-paid fighters in the world. I feel that’s destiny. This is what I’m supposed to be doing and if I die fighting, that’s fine. I just hope that if it does happen, it will be in an honest and fair competition… My body is f**ked but my mind is still here. I’ve still got my senses about me and I know what’s right and wrong, which is the main thing. Sometimes I don’t sleep well. You can hear me starting to stutter and slur my words. My memory is not that good anymore. I’ll forget something I did yesterday but I can remember the s**t I did years and years ago. That’s just the price I’ve paid - the price of being a fighter. But I’ve fought a lot of drug cheats and copped a lot of punishment from guys who were cheating and that’s not right.”

Mark hunt one of the best mma heavyweights of all time, he was clean all his career, he always fought cheaters that that took steroids and other performance enhanced drugs, from K1 - pride - ufc, he definitely would of been a champion in pride & ufc if his opponents were clean an not on the juice. Its like having 2 similar powered cars in a drag race 1/4 mile, but no Nitrous oxide system allowed, then the slower car cheats an uses N. O. S to when race, Mark hunt is a real champion.

Paused this during the ad before the video even started. Answer: He was insanely good. He got treated like absolute shit. He's almost proof that being nice and respectful will get you almost no respect. He has the peoples respect, that means more then almost anything. (I'm a white dude from Montana with no heritage even approaching his, I am one of those "peoples") Love you Mark, you and Jens are the only two professional fighters I can truly look up to due to the childhoods you survived. Mark is one of very few athletes I can imagine fighting someone for disrespecting his career. (yes he had weaknesses, he was insanely good, with a disturbing talent) He lacked what so many take advantage of now. Good trainers, meal prep, supplements etc. He had will and heart, he had power and stamina.)

So, he lost mostly to strong fighters - sometimes enhanced by drugs - and submissions. That's decent considering how he approached his fights.

I've always found myself rooting for the Super Samoan, and when he went on that tear toward the end of his career I was so excited for him. He kept getting better. His late career he was still a granite-chinned brawler with cannonball fists, but he would land these beautiful and scientific cross counters and counter left hooks. I don't give a damn about his record, it was always a joy to watch Mark Hunt fight.

The dude really needed to work on his submission defense skills, his standup ability was always excellent.

I think the fact that he was clean during a time when damn near every fighter (especially during that time period... when everyone was dirty) shows he’s far better than his record lets on.

Also forgot to mention marks age, he was already as the would say "past his prime" in terms of age by the time he signed with the ufc,

  • @CJFranciss

One of the best fighters in the world. He fought everyone who was someone, he was clean and fought guys juiced to the hills. He took late notice fights against world class guys. He didn’t let loses rattle him like other “picture perfect record” confidence players.
