My daughter was married last weekend. This very combo (6D + 50mm 1.8) was the primary combo used by the head photographer, with her 2nd on an EOS-R with another 50. Not that they didn't use other lenses during the day (particularly during the posed family photos), but 90% of the time they were with the nifty 50 workhorses. Very adaptable combo.
yeah nothing wrong with those cameras and lenses they do a good job overall for sure!
That Three Uncles pic is really good and reminds me strongly of living and working in central London.
thanks yes same for me really.
I never remove my 50 mm 1.8 from my Canon 6D. It's just perfect 😁
I love the editing and composition of these photos.
thank you!!!
I can see how Canon has evolved their technology but for me the photos are the inspiration and makes me want to get out more.
I've been shooting with one of these since I was 11 with doing wedding photography and whatnot for my mom, I'm 18 now and finally buying the camera from her, I absolutely love shooting with it, and I'm getting into cinematography. Also man your really good at street photography and I totally relate to the whole "looking in/being there from a distance" that's the whole reason why I shoot nowadays actually
good for you, i hope you really enjoy your life in photography now you own your own gear too
@@MartinCastein thank you!
I have the Mk2. Some people don’t like it but I love it. I’ve never owned a mk1. I’m just a hobbyist. Love this video btw
I had my troubles with the 5dii. It definetely gave me this certain FF (depth of field - its not a mystery!) look but it simply is too loud, the dynamic range was not very good imho and I love to shoot with manual settings AND auto iso. The mk2 does always limit iso to 400. I didnt like that. Does the 6D do a better job, martin??
I use 6D + EF50 f1.4 for street photography now.
Some great shots 👌
Colours are lovely. The bike one is excellent.
Thanks ✌️
Love this format. Your comments to inspiration,, composition and editing add a lot of value
Thanks glad you like it!
06:12 my favorite one!!!
Thanks Martin. You have really inspired me with your night street photos, so much so that, that is all I want to do at the moment. Spent an evening Brisbane recently, my first concentrated effort, and made some nice images. Cheers
What I like as a concept, is the sensor “interpreting the scene” as it absorbs photons and stores the info - interesting!
im so glad it inspired you, i hope you keep at it now!
I filmed my sisters wedding a few years back with a 6D and a vintage Minolta 35-70. She had wanted a home movie film camera look with my 16mm Bolex. However the film and processing was going to be, lets just say, prohibitive for starting a new chapter together. It was a cowboy style wedding. The low light of the 6D really pays off with the stops lost with adapters and such.
Really great video. I am soon going to London and will bring my Canon Eos 6d ii and the 50 mm 1.8.
Your presets are amazing. Can you please share them with us?
your editing is from a different planet, nice work!
Thanks! 😃
I'm in love with these pictures, especially the last one ;-)
Thanks man, I'm using My 6D Mark 1 since 2019,. Still love it. Subscribed!
This video made me a subscriber!!!!!
I also have the original 6D and the Canon 50mm1.2
Thanks for giving me some great ideas.
Thank you! Welcome aboard
An excellent video Martin, thank you. More like this please!
More to come!
Great video Martin. About two weeks ago, I've I've put the same lens on my 6D mk2. Is a really new experience with this combo. Light and fast, has bring my vision on a different path and very interesting. Love your photos, great shots as usual and you editing skill and taste are awesome. Thanks for share.
Thanks Riccardo!!!!
I’d love to see you react to pictures by your subscribers and famous photographers, and even may be breaking down photography in cinema
I felt like I was there with you on that shoot. Thanks Martin.
Thank you very much!
Great shots Martin.
Very informative and impressive. I learned a lot in such a short time.
Glad it was helpful!
@@MartinCastein thanks. Will continue with you.
Surprising to see you use the 6d with the mirror up (composing with the screen). My experience with the 6d has been that autofocus is very slow and unreliable when using the screen to compose, especially at wider apertures.
Hi, im using a different focus mode, it drops the mirror down and then pops it back up very quickly. its pretty quick overall like that.
Is that an actual mode or is it something you are doing manually? I’m not familiar with it.
yeah its a different mode for focus, cant do moving subjects but quick enough for everything else. this is how i do it on the 5dii i think the settings are same on 6d czcams.com/video/KDIGdk4w9pY/video.html
Great Street photos.
Another great review and it shows what you can achieve without spending thousands on gear. Your setup can be had, in perfect condition, for about £450.
Throw in a 24-105 f4 for £400 and you have a basic Wedding setup (Hell... why not chuck in an emergency 40D body for £80).
The price of fabulous used cameras is so low it still amazes me. (I just got an immaculate Canon 1D mk2 for £200 !!! It was a £4,000 body in my recent memory .... and may outlive me).
it is incredible really what you can get for that price now.
Had my 6D MK1 from new , the build quality on the MK 1 looks and feels one off serious instrument , low light absolutely captured !!
Spectacular photos Martin! If you would have said this was done using the A7XR31DX3R5, I would have believed you! Such lovely lighting and compositions. I really enjoyed this walk around shoot! Portraits, both studio and outside, next please!
thanks! i will get on to portraits soon enough dont worry, harder to organise as it involves other people and have to fit it all in but yes planning soon.
@@MartinCastein thank you!
Loving every video i come across from you ❤ so fresh, so different, so real. Thank you. On a side note, try to run a de-esser on you audio to reduce the simbilance, or cut the 5 to 8 hz on eq. It lowers the S's. Its your natural voice so you are used to it and you might not notice it. Thanks again.
Thanks I tried to control that better in more recent videos
50mm on a fullframe should be nice, but for an apsc is a bit too tight as for my taste. It is nice for some occasions, but mostly I would use my 24 on a crop sensor for street photography. I think one day I should get a fullframe for my 50 1.8.
Love your videos
I tend to think that 50mm on full frame is a bit tight, maybe 28mm might be better? But again, I suppose you will get the pictures that work for the lens you have. Work with the materials you have.
Beautiful photos! I just ordered my first beat up 6D from mpb for $244 with 120k sc. it was marked good condition. I hope it is. I’m really excited to get it and start using it for street photography. I’m a 5D classic guy myself. I had four but I just gave one away. I really enjoy your channel. Thank you.
Thanks, I think you will like it. It’s a more modern 5d 1 in most ways.
@@MartinCastein Hey Martin, I just picked up a Nikon D200 with the CCD Sensor which seems to have that "magic" you talk about. Have you ever tried it?
I'm also looking at getting an Xpro 1 or an XM1. Those Xtrans files look very nice.
@@PerfectNormal i havent im afraid, everyone i know that has had one loves it though.
This was fun, Martin! This setup looks great!
Glad you enjoyed it!
@@MartinCastein 🙌
Thanks to share photos. Please share to review 6D m1 + 50 f1.4 if available. Thanks
much better sound in this one , love it
thanks, glad you are enjoying the 6d all over again!! I havent tried the foveon sensors yet, i would like to one day.
Enjoy the coffee..!! Again smashed.. love the cut to light room and of course the advice on compositions.. I like all of photos but the bike shot is the best… what can you do in day light.. The light is much better at night but how would you get similar atmosphere in brighter daylight?? Presume you’d go monochrome. I have a 6D and that lens so will get into Liverpool city centre in give it a go… ! Don’t want to sound like an arse but I do look forward to your candid opinions and advise..!!
Oh i will have a go in daylight soon, i dont know what I will do, i guess we will have to wait and see but i might have a go this week even. You are from liverpool? I love liverpool, i used to go there often when i was younger. I will possibly go black and white yes but not sure. hmmmmm
I knew there was something .. Liverpool has it all for photography plus culturally sound..! .. Glasgow Newcastle Sheffield same vibe…!!
Very nice work! Gives me some ideas and techniques to try. What is you opinion on the Canon EF 40mm 2.8 STM? I have it paired with my 6D.
thanks, that lens is superb, i love it.
Thanks
Thank you very much!!!
6:16 awesome
thank you, i was happy with it!
What about using yongnuo 85mm f1.8
Hi Martin! Great video as always. I have a question about your aperture setting. Most photos in the video have a nicely blurred foreground, which I love. However, what made you decide to shoot at f/2.0 specifically and not at the maximum aperture which would give you even more blur?
the 50 seems to perform, overall, a little bit better at f2 compared to 1.8 but the real reason is I just picked that and went with haha, sorry dont have a more logical answer really.
There isn't much difference between 1.8 and 2.0.
there isnt, i just picked f2 pretty randomly 🤣
Ok, I will do it. I don't like the 50mm F1,8. But I will put it on my 6D and just...do it. But I really do not like that lens. :)
40mm 2.8?
i suscribe because your video are very interesting.
thank you
Great video. Have you tried any of the Canon M cameras? The original Canon M + the 22mm pancake lens makes a small and cheap street camera.
Martin does the 6D retract the 50mm STM when you power off the camera? I have the STM 40mm and it doesn't... i had also the 50mm STM but i forgot
love the Three Uncles pix. quite beautiful. 1/60th-f2-ISO? Auto white balance? Auto ISO? If so, ISO was up until what do you allow? thanks for the effort and sharing. i am an appreciative subscriber. thumbs up.
Auto ISO and AUTO white balance. i let the iso go to 12800. the 6d can handle that no problem!
5:20 a bit noisy but still so good.
New to this, how do I get autofocus to work properly? Took my 6d for some street photography and sometimes the shutter wouldn’t fire or it would take forever to autofocus. Using the 50mm. Any settings suggestions?
i own a 50mm 1.8, but im currently on a rebel t7. would it be smart to upgrade to the 6d? i want to make the change to full frame without breaking the bank
yes i think thats a good move
Do you let the camera decide what shutter speed to use in either P or A mode? I've found that Canon is rather optimistic in their logic to determining appropriate shutter speed by applying 1 over focal length as the target shutter speed, prioritizing keeping the ISO low. For me, this often results in blurry images, either because of camera shake or subject movement. I think on the 6D you can go into the menu and override this and set your own preferred minimum shutter speed. Martin, do you take advantage of that and for 50mm, what's your preferred minimum shutter speed?
i usually like to set the minimum shutter speed to 1/125. Im fine with 1/50 on the 6d with this lens but you have to test for yourself where your limits are. i usually find double the focal length is a safe zone.
Dear Martin, You say ‘take care’. Isn’t it better to say ‘take a calculated risk’ and go for that shot? Your street photography was calculated, decisive, and you grabbed some excellent shots. More power to you. Excellent channel. I’m recently subscribed 👍
hahahaha love that, thanks!
Hello Martin, if you were in the market for another Camera but only could afford one, would it be the Canon 5d,Mk1 or the Canon 6d Mk1, sorry if it puts you on the spot , i can afford either one but not both at the moment.
6d mark 1 Paul. For sure. 5d mark 1 is one for the people that used it back in the day and are nostalgic for it or have plenty of other stuff and want something basic with a more unique look. The 6d has nearly the same look but is much much more modern and feels really good.
@@MartinCastein Thank you Martin, I have purchased the 6D Mk1 this morning, looking forward to it's arrival, I currently. use my 50mm prime on my Canon 50d, which I've owned from New ,thank you again much appreciated
iso camera?
whats your thoughts on polarising filters when shooting through windows?
ps love the bike shot
hmmm i think that would work, ive never tried it though, id suggest you just go for it and see what you think!
Depends if you want the reflections but the biggest thing to think about in low light is that you lose one stop from the filter
good point.

I don't know about UK but in the EU these photos would be illegal without explicit permission.
legal in the UK
It is not illegal cause it is street art.
@@jensschettler1732 Taking pictures from the outside of people inside, photographing people at work, publishing and/or commercial use of photographs including recognizable subjects without explicit consent. "It's art" or "it's a public place" won't get you off the hook. You can't secretly photograph people even at your own home. The privacy regulations are quite strict at least in some parts of the EU.

Amazing content I allways watch your videos to get inspiration and learn. Did u shoot these raw or jepeg??
