Trout Fishing in a Hailstorm with the Baird Brothers | My Spring Food Forest Awakening

- Cali and I travel to Algonquin Park to trout fish, canoe and camp with Jiom and Ted Baird. The first day is hot and sunny but that changes over night and the second day brings hail and rain. The fishing is as good as usual for brook trout on both days. Back at the homestead, I plant more fruit trees and watch as the trees flower and the perennials emerge from the warming soil. A barred owl feeds its chicks in a nearby hollow tree while other wildlife search for food and build their own nests.

The Red Headed Woodpecker, the Barred Owl, and the silly chipmunk are all so charming. I love seeing the birds, and hearing the Loons call. Thank you for this video as well as all the others. Cali is such a sweetheart. She sure got tired on the trip.

I did the boundary waters 40 years ago in my early 30's now I'm 71 I came watch you on these great Canadian adventures
I did them with my son about 15 years ago and had the time of my life. It was the best time away ever. We caught and ate fish each day. Unfortunately mining will destroy them unless we can stop the special interest groups and mining companies from Peru

Callie there is a saying from my neck of the woods that states "If you own a dog and watch their behaviour when you are feeling tiresome, reflect on how they feel taken out of their environment." and by what this video has shown us armchair enthusiasts , you have the patience of a Saint, as nothing seems to phase you.

If I hadn’t actually seen that owl turn its head and look at us I don’t think I would’ve even spotted it, but I still would’ve been mesmerized by the beauty of the Forest. You are such a good steward to the land and to its inhabitants.

That was a nice fishing trip, weather wasn’t perfect didn’t seem to bother anyone. Cali had a great time tried her hand in fishing a couple times with her head in the water. I got a kick out of her when she fell asleep in the canoe she once let out a little 💤 She is one amazing, smart, dog Shawn thanks to you talking to her teaching her with love, kindness, it certainly has paid off. Enjoyed the vi the video so relaxing, great job as always. You never disappoint Shawn. Thanks for sharing, appreciated, it’s my relaxing time.

I never fished in hail before but how beautiful! And what a perfect Owl’s nest indeed! So beautiful the Spring! My Mother had a cross stitch piece she’d made that hung in our kitchen and what it said stays with me always. It said: Come in the spring on a bluebirds wing. Come in the fall by the garden wall. Thanks Shawn. I just got back from Algonquin yesterday. I had a heck of time getting out of Tom Thompson Lake due to the quite sturdy Beaver Dam. I got across the HARD way. lol I felt good being able to get from the Canoe Lake access point out to Tom Thompson for several nights solo at age 60, although it would have been easier 20 years ago. All the best from Pennsylvania.

So cool seeing you growing perennials I use in gardens here in Maryland there in such a remote, rugged part of the world😊. All ones I really love that do well in shade, deer prone areas…Lenten rose, ligularia, pulmonaria, sedum, peony, brunerra❤

Gardener's hint - when planting trees, keep the soil carefully and replace it in the manner it came out - with the more aerobic microbes in the topsoil and the less aerobic microbe in the bottom soil. No die-off and more early growth on the fruit trees.
