- Cushla and Richard Thurston, utilised the extra space in their backyard to build a 36sqm studio with a unique view over Wellington. Studio 74 is oriented to efficiently collect heat from the sun during winter, with a steeply pitched roof designed to resist the ever changing elements of New Zealand's North Island. The seamless design of the timber flooring, extending into the shower, gives the home an expansive and flexible feeling helping it transition from art studio, to guest house, to multi-generational extension.

Man I can imagine cutting onions on the wall table while looking at the view and crying.
Why ?????????😂
Reenki Naik because I want to live there but it’s not my house.
@@Rockman-4 but why crying?🤷😂
Crying because you have no space to storerage yoyr clothes hahahah
Reenki Naik because the onions keep squirting gas to my eyes lmao.
the only fault i can see (i'd love to live there) is the ladder with round rungs, if you going to use a fixed ladder , use flat steps, so much easier on the bare feet
ok boomer (i jest, fair point).
This is a v practical suggestion
The problem I see is that the ladder is right next to the stove and its chimney.
remove the ladder altogether and add small steps that also acts as a storage on the other side
@Will Black nonono I'm 20 and it's true some thin ladders are painful when you step on them
Omg this was the Airbnb I’ve stayed in Wellington with my dad when we traveled in New Zealand!!
Detective Halverson the ladder is pretty steady, I was living in that little loft and my dad was on the sofa bad downstairs. I’ve just checked they are still running as an Airbnb, but it’s more expensive now than when we stayed there.
So it being an artist's studio is a lie? I'd appreciate some storage if I were to come to that accomodation.
@Detective Halverson Bless you
I was thinking, this looks like an AirBnB. There's no room to have stuff if you actually live there.
Prove it
She speaks like an architect. She considers a lot about the factors affecting a building. A well thought design. Love her being articulate about the space 💛
I agree 🙂
She is an architect 🙂
@@donitaroseevaristo5664 ohh i thought that her husband is the architect. But nevertheless i love how well-spoken she was. I love to live in that studio. Im currently studying architecture as well :)
The Four Corners I just saw it when they flashed her name on the screen that is why I knew she is an architect 😅 nevertheless she is really a good one because she knows how to consider a lot of things when building a house 😊
Wow. Im dreaming to become an architect. Unfortunately I was not able to take up that course way back when I was still in college. Im jealous 😭 Anyhoo, I hope you can become a great architect soon as well 👍🏼
The flush hexagon tile with the wood floor is such a small detail, but I absolutely love it!
they forgot grout around the edges so there's a gap that annoys me. but still really pretty
@@user-ky2qk3kv8z If they had grouted it, the timber’s expansion and contraction between seasons would have cracked it.
Loved everything except the ladder. The ladder being vertical is great to avoid visual clutter and it opens up the space, but from practicality/everyday use perspective might not be suitable for all agd groups.
They do have the sofa bed too though so if accessibility were an issue for an occupant I guess the mezzanine could just become storage space or something
@Ig Hanchks wish I could upvote this comment a hundred more times! It's nice to hear a more professional view on this
I think I might be able to handle the ladder but, I can see me falling off that space above while fixing the bed.
@@Midik5925 😄🤣
@Ig Hanchks oh no. That's awful. That is exactly what I'm afraid of.
Stunning, visually. The ladder would be a bit terrifying for me. Did I miss where a closet might be?
I suppose it is like that, because she said it would be used as an artist studio
I presume it’s currently used as a studio and not a permanent dwelling space yet, but she mentioned they did some aspects of design where you can alter the space if they would ever want it in the future. Otherwise it’s a very brilliant design, looks so clean, minimal and intentional.
Not a closet but there's a suitcase next to the bed that i presume is for storing some clothes, seeing as there's no other place for clothes
I'm thinking this is a weekend house. Also no room for a washer/dryer.
In the suitcase close to the bed.
the lighting seems so well positioned, would love to see a shot of it in the night time.
I thought the same when she described the light bouncing off things at night. A little disappointed they didn’t show it too
I loved how they used salvaged and sustainable materials
This place is absolutely beautiful! The design is simple, the inside is minimalistic. I love the loft ladder and the view out that skylight from the bedroom must be incredible at night!
Your movies have become an addiction. They encouraged me to "live lighter", to get only what I need (with some whim every now and then, God forbid) starting from my home, which must be a refuge where I can relax and feel protected, without having to become a source of stress and worries. Thanks Never Too Small. Really.
The image that they gave to this house using those materials with those characteristics and colors will give it durability over time, it will never look old or finished, in addition the use of the gabled roof gives a height to the room suitable for the comfort of the space, and with the correct disposition towards the sun, which enters through large and sliding windows to exit to a large terrace with green area, fantastic
This is my kind of dream house somewhere i can breathe freely, it's so open that i can see my family always. I love the woods the large windows. US is so rich that they think this tiny house is about convenience and affordability for some people of other country like me this is a dream house
The ladder going all the way up to the ceiling will make such a huge difference in how you experience going to bed; just a step to a cozy corner, rather than an inconvenient and uncomfortable climb. Very well done!
I think the project fits its multipurpose goals very well. The views are glorious and the use of timber seems apt. Cushla is so articulate. I imagine she’s won over many a potential client with her presentations. She’s obviously passionate about architecture and sustainability but not in an overbearing way. Thank you @NEVER TOO SMALL for another great video.
That view is magnificent, what an incredible property.
I liked this one a lot!
No transformations that one would get tired after a week or weird shenanigans besides the ladder.
Clean and simple!
Exquisite. The use of space, volume, simple lines and clean finishes - this is a near perfect design in my view!
The space looks so expansive and serene. Loved it.
this is definitely one of my favorites! it’s small but has so much character and color, and the layout it so functional!
Absolutely love it! The continuous floor and connected deck are perfect. Great work and thanks for sharing your space with us.
Picture guests camping in their yard. That’s heaven.
This is an amazing use of space and windows!! LOVE IT, I can live here! What a view!
This space is incredibly beautiful! I am amazed at how cozy it seems yet there is a large presence about it. I would definitely live there!
Love the simplicity of this place! Minimalist dreams!
absolutely stunning. small yet very articulate dwelling. i would go back to wellington in a heartbeat for this lovely space.
The view outside the house is one of the things I like the most here. enjoying the sunrise and sunset from the terrace of the house is amazing.
This is the best one yet IMO. I absolutely love it and I will definitely be incorporating some of her features in my own design
I can't really concentrate on watching the house, because I'm focused on the amazing view. 😍
Sorry, my english is terrible. 😊 Thanks for your ❤!
Greetings from Germany. 🙋
This made me ready to pack my bags and stay in a tiny home in a far away land
This house showus that the size, the colors, the lighting and the ventilation are important factors to generate a comfortable space where people can feel happy and not overwhelmed by a small space
When I saw the mezzanine space - I let out an audible aww!! I love it. So funky and cozy.
Throughout the space, the use of materials, upcycling wood, old paneling.
Well done - also great ideas to utilise and build upon.
And the Kiwi accent reminds me of home.
Hurray! House tours are back! And very nice place, I wouldn't complain if I had to live there
Love this home! The colors are perfect, and I love how much thought went into its orientation on the site.
Tiny houses have many challenges in order to create a lovely place where people won't feel overwhelmed. However, Cushla and Richard manage to build no just a peaceful house but a sustainable space by taking into account the prevailing wind, the sunlight, and the view. What I like the most about this house is the minimalist design because it allows the interior spaces to relate without mixing up and consequently creates different atmospheres in one place.
I‘d love this for my own. Just would have made some beautifully constructed, light, detachable/stowable stairway to reach the Sleeping Loft. Possibly one that you pull down with a rope, that automatically retracts into the ceiling area when not in use. It sure does look sleek to have the ladder, but with older guests it may be too tricky climbing up and down it. And I‘d defitely need a cooktop stove 😋 Love the design otherwise!
That’s a great idea as an alternative to the ladder, loft stairs into the mezzanine floor/roof 👍 thanks
Most beautiful space....calm and clutter free
simplicity is beauty , small but elegant , love it
Lots of thought went into so many aspects of this project. Sustainable and gorgeous!
So exciting to see one from my home town! That spot in Brooklyn on the Ridgeline is stunning ❤️
To me, This house is perfection. So calm and relaxing. I could live there and be happy.
There is nothing around to "excite". Manicured great outdoors with no one else nearby is indeed very calming. Relaxing takes some work. 🙃
I really like all the thought that's been put in to this one. The architect explains the concepts and techniques so easily and clearly!
Wow! This is genuinely my dream house. So perfect!
Wow... It's beautiful... I really love it and I loved the colours
I love the sliding doors and the window on the sleeping area. It really makes the place look bigger and airy.
What a joy to watch - love the calming music while watching the views in the video. Hope I can visit here one day
Wellington is such an amazing city!
This is my favorite space on your channel. Thanks for sharing.
Great Studio for art/architecture. Like how the floors extends btw rooms yo create larger impression. Also leading the sun thru bathroom, onto kitchen is great. Neat how you declutter the view from living room with the width of the shelf, and the toilet behind the wall. 👏
Omgg that view... gives me that aching feeling of I want to live there
I love how everything about this house has a practical reason behind. I worry about the storage space though.
So beautiful. The whole space look so bright, spacey, and warm. I kinda hesitate with the ladder, but placing behind that charming fireplace is a great idea.
New Zealand is the dream place to live
Absolutely amazing! I loved this studio!
Gotta be my favourite property featured on this channel, simply stunning and so many ideas for my future build
The view is amazing! Love the deck around the building!
Very. Very nice. Love the fireplace tile detail among other things.
What a place and beautifully presented by our hostess.
I love seeing my home town on U-tube! Awesome video. I loved the apartment, except for the dismal ladder to the bedroom mezzanine floor. A huge amount of thought has gone into the design process, yet the ladder does mean that this studio is only for people who are young and in good health. Try climbing that thing when you have an injury, are recovering from surgery, or just have a flu. It wouldn’t be suitable for a granny flat. Aside from that, an incredible place.
Absolutely gorgeous place.
I MISSED THESE SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!
This place is absolutely beautiful !!!
I love this loft. Amazing.
Absolutely Gorgeous!
Wow so peaceful and beautifully narrated - thanks so much and you have done a INCREDIBLE job!!!
The bathroom draining floor was clever touch and amazing.
Great taste in design , simple, & elegant .
Absolutely beautiful.
love this so much.
The best house I've seen so far
The deck gets me every time :)))
Gosh love the design. Beautifully designed. I appreciate.
Beautiful, well done. Just one suggestion use a different kind of latter with hand grips that can be positioned for easier use.
This must be paradise.
I appreciate the toilet being "tucked" back, away from view once the door opens. With those outdoor views over Wellington I would build one too.
Another stunning, clever space! Love your channel. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
The bathroom is beautiful.
i have the same feeling too.
The open toilet area is simply shocking!
Wow, beautiful space!
My goodness! I would move right now if they rented this space out! I've been wanting to move into Wellington forever
Liked you micro, well thought out. Thanks for sharing
It's a beautiful calm space in a stunning setting. I love the colours, the minimal design and the live edge table. The only thing I would change is the ladder. The round metal rungs will be very tough on bare feet and dangerous with slippers.
Stunning house ,good to see windows being used for light not just views.
this woman is brilliant
I would love to live there!
very beautiful minimalist design.
New zealand is beautiful
Bali juga
Only 36 sqm and it seems so big ! Amazing 👍🏻
Fantastic job !
i always watch never to small videos before sleep. kinda relaxing somehow
I imagine this as coffee shop, and that looks like a good place to chill
Really nice settlement, the house is beautiful and the accent is great.
Love it! I could live in this small space!
Absolutely gorgeous and perfect
so long i can still climb those slim stairs without toppling over daily ... am impressed by the way you plan for natural light etc
Gorgeous ! House of my dream
I just LOVE it. Wow!
No words to describe. Superb
Great little cottage.
Really superb design
Love it.
You made a great job! Congratulations! Love it!
