Truck gets lifted as a container is picked up at a container terminal. As can be seen, the lock securing the container to the trailer on the back-right is not released before the crane starts lifting the container. This is the result.

What if the container itself falls on him? LOL.
Several years ago i worked at container depo. One of my team just was done finishing stacking 40 feets, decided to take a rest waiting for next batch. He left his sideloader with spare helmet and high-vis jacket on it next to the stack and just start walking when a strong gust topple the top kontainer, falling into the side loader, and just a metre next to him. I heard the loud bang from front gate and along with field-ops and securities run into his side loader, saw smashed helmet and jacket with red liquid all over (turns out friggin hidraulics oil). Frankly i went pale thinking he got smashed - until i found him sitting pale in the kontainer being repaired several meter behind.
That day become another reminder that the helmet only there to protect us from falling nut and bolts - not friggin 20/40feets falling.
Stones can fall from the container, that's why helmets are ma mandatory.

It's possible that when the head hit the container it shook a twist lock and got it to reattach. That's why you use a spotter and two-way radios. You don't just lift a skel frame 12 feet in the air.

Thanks for the video I needed a lift today!
'come with me trailer' said crane
This happened to me, but unlike the video the operator saw what was happening, just had to unlock the twist lock. The dock I was at had a strict policy, undo locks at gate, proceed to area wait for box, don't get out for any reason. What happens is the lock can twist back round esp over bumpy ground.
Ever see the crane drop a container? I work on the ships..
I think the funniest thing has to be how casual the man is. He doesn't even flinch when the trailer hits the ground.
He looks quite casual about it like this happens to him on a regular basis lol
probably forgets to unlock it every time so became a normal thing.
Brave Trailer Driver!
It seems The Crane operator was trying to re-verify the Crane's Safe Working Load Capacity 😌
How this ended up on my recommended section, I'll never know.
This makes me miss driving the ports.
This crane is called an RTG and actually it's neither the crane or truck drivers fault, because there's suppose to be a groundman checking the chassis to ensure nothing is locked.
I love you. You are a real woman
@@kewlmanable i love u.. u are a real man..
This is an STS not RTG .
That's a rail mounted Quay Crane (Ship to shore). Rubber Tyred Gantries (RTG) will be much smaller.
No Shannon , it is completely the truck drivers responsibility to check the chassis for any obstructions regarding the lift , driver needs to stay at all times in the designated safety zones where they can make eye contact with the operator , it was the truck driver who had to double check if his goods are liftable , if not he should signal immediatly , if he can’t he should back off as far as possible and not doing a Clint Eastwood style walkaround around the chassis , these actions will get yourself killed, and no there’s not always a ground operator who checks it , if they don’t care with the material they work with , they should.ve stayed home in the first place . You need to check your chassis more often , entered the port ? Turn them loose or not , driving to crane ? Stop a few meters before and open your locks , standing still too long and you’re relocated to another loading/ unloading spot ? Check em again ....
If I was the driver of the truck I would have been running for cover 🤣
When we get to the terminal, off the city/county road...
First thing we do when we reach the lineup is to get out and unlock.
Longshore can see when we pull up to the top strad, side strad, or RTG crane, if the container is unlocked.
Once or twice per day I see a chassis rise into the air like this.
This will bend the frame of the truck and chassis, resulting in both never being alligned properly.
The twist locks may snap or suffer metal stress, rendering them weak and susceptible to failure in the future.
This is the fault of the truck driver, not the longshore operator.
It is a lesson to us truck drivers to unlock in line outside of terminal operations.
I'm sure the operator is none other than Travor Phillips.

I wonder if the axels on the trailer was bent due to this. I dropped my bike off a bike hitch once when taking it off and the rear tire axel got bent and needed to be replaced. I imagine the same thing here.
not sure about the trailer but the tractor has bent chassis for sure.

Hopefully, insurance cover the suspension replacement
I never knew those locks could be that tough
This is a good example why there should be a slingman or a trucker hired to give a signal to the rtg operator. Safety should be the #1 priority of the companies. The crane driver should always float the load after picking up the container until he sees the semi driver pull forward a little. After he sees the semi has pulled forward then he can hoist the load. Lets keep saftey a priority because and injury may cost a life or a lifetime of pain.

The driver screwed up because he didn't unlock the twist locks prior to lifting. Additionally, there is supposed to be a ground man with each crane to immediately communicate a problem.
This is neither the truck drivers or the crane operator the driver most likely turned his locks at the door like we are told to do but when you drive thru the terminal the locks turn themselves with the bumps and vibration if you look it was 1 lock that was on the other three weren't this has happened to me the shit not fun
humpty If in Doubt double check.
+1984Scholsey Why would you be in doubt when you've already unlocked them? If it's the first time it's happened, you won't think to check again because you've already done it. When you get to the crane, you'll always remember to check twice next time.
True if this was Dennison or an SDC trailer ( where you just turn the pins 90%.. but it's a Noteboom trailer the mechanism is a different design you have to unscrew them and when they are unscrewed properly they drop down clear of the corner columns so... so don't rush when you do this with a Noteboom trailer and if in doubt double check.
I do this at least 30 times a night 5/6 days a week.
I suggest the driver forgot one. All twistlocks I have ever used have a spring loaded ball bearing inside to hold either closed or open, which need to be greased occasionally. So? Lack of maintenance or operator error?
Always your responsibility to check the twist locks. Your load
moment of silence for those shocks
100 percentage driver error, I've delivered containers ,2 most important things to make sure they're locked while driving and unlocked prior to unloading, I've always vertifed pins in open prior after arriving to drop location prior to crane arriving. What was this driver doing while he waited for crane to get to him?
Rodney Deville in all fairness stranger things can and do happen, I’ve undone my twistlocks at the in gate at Felixstowe and got round to the crane to find the fecker has been jolted back into the lock position again, I’d say it’s 50/50 sometimes driver error sometimes just sheer bad luck
He sat in his truck like he was suppose to. They don't want drivers walking outside of their trucks after staging. If there's a problem they then and only then instruct driver to exit truck and resolve problem.

@@juss4kiks happens in chicago at the rail yards a lot
Yup. Junk equipment most of the time. The dogs are opened at entry to the port, but often the distance to the crane is enough to vibrate them closed by the time you get under the crane. That's why you see tape, paper towels, all sorts of debri stuffed into the dogs to make them stay put. The crane operator is probably an angry drunk who thinks his shit don't stink. Port personnel are the worst pieces of shit I have ever encountered.
Usually the lock will give away almost immediately.

The trailer has 4 keys for each corner of container
You can't go in too the port if the keys are not opened but some times as the truck is rolling to the lift machine the keys its too sensitive and they turn to the lock position with out driver knowing that
The lift operator is too high and he dont have good visibility and this is the result
0:45 other truck is running away from the port
That happened to me, but I was lucky I dropped after about 4 feet. I know someone in Vancouver who was lifted 15 feet off the ground and dropped, and was knocked out. Needless to say he never worked as a truck driver ever again.
