    I`m sure making these video`s are a pain for you when there is bad weather, or maybe Stress in the job, but for myself and all those who follow you, thank you for doing it, it`s a real pleasure watching how you work and seeing a level headed arborist doing his job the right way. I hope some of the younger people take notice and learn from your experences. Beste of luck in the New Year, Merry Christmas for you and your family.

    You're correct Reg people don't pay attention at all anymore so they ask repetitive questions. Also people ask me all the time about my "competitors", and the truth is I have none. I have colleagues and many times throughout the season we collaborate on larger jobs together. People can't seem to grasp that concept. There's more than enough work for us all. Happy holidays to you and your family!

    If this is any motivation for more content, I always watch you videos from start to finish and never fast forward. Usually rewinding. I listen carefully to everything you say and soak it all in. You can't stop now your too inspiring and humble and mysterious in a way. We don't have 160ft trees in Wisconsin. So I might truly never feel what you feel, but I am a tree climber and skilled arborist and boy do I understand the challenges. The storms and winds have been rough this year. I'm sure you understand but I always speak and sometimes sing to the trees while I climb. I'm 29 and I've only been climbing for maybe 3 years now. But yesterday I removed a white oak 8 feet from a home and climbed 70ft to the top of oak to snap cut broken limb. I always look towards your channel for inspiration. Thank you reg from the bottom of my heart.

    • @Recoates
      @Recoates  Před 2 lety +29

      Ill tell you something Mike. This video carries on from where the last one finished. But in the last one I actually dropped the grapple hook just before I topped the tree, before the traverse...and when I reached behind my saddle to use it, it obviously wasn't there. I asked the groundworker, cody, to find and tie it back on my climbline. He radioed back to say he couldn't reach the end of the climbline by about 10 feet....and thats a 200ft line. So I had to spur down a little way, moving my tie off with me until he could reach. If you add the top off the tree that I cut off earlier that puts it close to 230ft. But the odd part is that its very difficult to gauge height from up there until you actually catch sight of someone down below. Or if you get a gust of wind and it starts to sway really slow but extended. I realise the majority of climbers might not ever get the opportunities to work in tree's of this scale, so I hope at least being able to watch them here is some sort of consolation or better than nothing at all.

    • @Dred13657
      @Dred13657 Před 2 lety +2

      I know what you mean in a sense that it is difficult to guage hieght without someone or something on the ground you can see. And I bet not having your traverse hook was an experience being up that high. I am truly humbled by the trees, I learn for them and from them and Intend to care for trees as long as I can. I Intend to go out west some day and experience and ancient old growth forest. Thank you for reaching out to my comment, it truly means a lot. I feel honored to be one of many arborist caring for trees. Please keep the content coming. It does so much for people like me. God bless reg and as always climb safe

      @@ashleywatt9866 I cant speak of your calculations Ashley, but if you read my what I said to the other lad, thats the truth of the matter. Incidentally, the tallest tree on the island is actually Sitka spruce of around 95-97 meters. Its called the Carmanah giant. You will find photos photos, videos and info of it on the web. The average height of the trees within the forest in this video is probably around the 200 -220 ft mark. Its called Cathedral grove, also lots of info about the area.

    These in the parks I enjoy the most. Probably because I know I could never do it myself, serious was the right descriptor.
    Also enjoy hearing your forest management criteria, it's a bit different than here in old Virginia. We tend to have much more hardwoods in our forests like Ash, Oaks, Hickories maples and locusts. These trees grow out more than up so they don't get as tall and almost never grow straight. On the farm I work for we try to leave as much standing deadwood in the forest as possible but often it presents a danger to neighboring healthy trees simply because so many of our larger hardwoods lean. Also our forests tend to get very dry at various times of the year, and the hardwoods like ash, oak, locust and hickory tend to get very dry creating fire hazard and some of the best and hottest burning fuels for our forest fires which occur frequently here in late summer. So a lot of my time when working in our forests on the farm is spent taking down dead trees that are usually leaning hard or somehow threatening nearby healthy trees. But I do leave them standing as wildlife habitats whenever possible.
    Anyway thanks for the early Christmas present these were great, and merry Christmas!
