- This was something I've wanted to for a long time, originally it was gonna be out for the 3d release but work got in the way. I had always toyed with a Majora's mask animation but I never felt a parody would do it justice. Majora's mask was and still is my favorite Zelda, and I tried to capture why in this video. It's a lot more serious than my other cartoons.
This is my first attempt at something a bit "darker" and cinematic, and I really pushed for all the heart tugging moments Majora's Mask throws at you. I hope you enjoy

Shit man.... never thought of it that way. I almost feel legitimately bad for doing all of this.
That's why there's a challenge that people do to try to do as much possible in the 3 days cycles. You'd be surprised how much you can do with the reverse song of time, a bunny hood, epona, and the goron mask.
But even with a slowed time flow and the fastest possible movement, you still can't do *everything* in one cycle.
@@jruler93 Nope. Even something as simple as helping the Bomb Shop lady - If you save her, you can't help Anju and Kafei. Some 'Rescues' cancel out others, so Link has to decide which ones are more important. I can't imagine the kind of pressure that puts on him
Well, considering how he can reset the cycle whenever he wants as many times as he wants, probably not as much as it usually would. If your actions don't have consequences, then why not be a psychopathic murderer sometimes?
Because Link is a hero. He's supposed to save *everyone*. But no matter how hard he tries, no matter what he does in previous timelines, in the end it's impossible to help every single person.
Sure, it may affect him less and less as he continues to reset, but that's more a result of him growing numb to the feeling. In the beginning, once the realization hits that helping everyone is impossible, it would still affect him.

I deny that reality and substitute my own every time I play.
All four temples beaten.
All major areas cured of their side quests.
All people saved.
Before the last moment of the final day.
Then I defeat the moon.
It's how I've always played Majora's Mask; My final 3 day run always consists of saving absolutely everyone possible before moving on to the final boss.
So that they can all be granted the peace they deserve.

Of course it is possible. The story is not limited. Merely the hardware you play it on. And that holds true to this day. Time travel is a messy business, yet you never see an alternate you in the game. So just realize this. You did in fact do everything you set out to do, and have done, even if you go back in time. Kafei is evidence of this. The giants themselves are as well. You CAN save everyone.
At least, you know, everyone in the notebook. You can't save them if they aren't. You know, aside from preventing the moon from whacking them in the face. Which is definitely a form of saving them, yes, but it doesn't address their other problems and issues.
But hey. Even saving them from a terrifying moon and mask is still saving them, and if they need further saving then maybe they need to put some effort themselves too. You can't just expect a hero to save everything. Even if they can.
But you can't save the Deku scrub, Darmani, and Mikua

Seeing Romani's sister cry after she knew that she and her sister weren't going to make it while Romani had such an innocent face is one of the few times I've cried during something
I broke into tears at the Cremia and Malon scene. So beautiful and saddening.

Wow, Scott. You've improved so much. Aesthetically, this is a work of art. The sudden shift in tone worked so well as a result; It's a tone shift that hits _hard_. One minute you're looking at how pretty everything looks, then all of a sudden you see everyone in sadness and fear knowing that the world will end soon. Nicely done, Scott. u_u
Thanks! That was the plan, when I showcased it to a few people while I was working on it they wanted me to change the beginning, and I had that argument of "I want it to seem all right in the beginning, almost cheerful, and then slowly take a dive as soon as skull kid shows up"

I never thought about the fact you cant save everyone in the game until now... THANKS FOR MAKING THE GAME EVEN MORE DEPRESSING FOR ME!
It is not. THe game is limited bt hardware. Save Kafei, and you can reset all over again, start from the first day, and just wait around/warp forwards to the final day without helping anyway. And yet, they are still helped. It is not the story, but the machine and game itself that prevent you from doing it. And even then, the engine clearly recognizes once you save them at least once. You travel time again and again. Only the game, and perhaps something else, prevents you from seeing the other yous that save ones you do not save on a given run. Some form of paradox protection, perhaps? Regardless, you save them all. Everyone in the notebook. You. Saved. Them.
Brought me to tears man. This probably caught the feeling of Majora's Mask way better than any official trailer I've seen of it yet.
But dammit man..."Can't save everyone"? Challenge freaking accepted...
You need the masks of 3 people's souls to complete the game, so good luck saving them.
Even if you beat the game, there's still darmani, deku butler's son, no matter what, someone isn't making it

Damn...when you're right you're right. That's actually always haunted me at the end. I know that the tribe will live without Darmani. But the Deku Butler's son...and Lulu and the baby Zora's...hell the whole BAND living on without Mikau. It's so rough.
Despite that, on my final cycle of the game, I always make it my mission to do EVERY objective I can before taking on Majora. The Fairies, the dungeons, Kafei and Anju, the Ranch. It's a MAJOR challenge, but so damn satisfying when you pull it off. But with time moving faster in MM3D, I'm not sure it's possible anymore... :(
1UPForever That's something I've been meaning to try as well, I mean luckily you can cut the middle man out by directly warping to each temple's boss and then just eliminating them with the Fierce Diety mask, then organize a schedule that would help you arrive to what goals you want to finish in that time line, and then eventually finish it all off at the clock tower against Skull Kid.

This is very touching. Especially the part when you showed off all of these people's reactions and emotions during the final day. Very well done!

I always hated that, it doesnt matter how fast you are, how well you plan, how prepared you are. You simply can't do it. They can't all be saved.
Makes for an incredible game with a moving story though, you really, really care about the characters like never before in a Zelda game.
This trailer is beautiful and sad in the same time, Majora's mask is and still my favorite Zelda game, i love every Zelda game anyway, but this one take a place in my heart. Link is the one who probably suffer the most, even if he never show his feelings, he is the only one who can save everyone, he is the only one who remember what happened before he played the song of time, he is the only one who know what happened to Darmani and Mikau, one was a ghost, the other one died in the front of him (that's why Link cry this time) and he is only a child.
Hey Scott! I'm really really digging this animation. Not only because it's a Zelda animation or because it's actually pretty nicely-made (nice touches!), but because you kept the tone of the game at heart of the animation.
Everyone can make a Parody of anything on CZcams nowadays. Just get a franchise, stick some foul language where it doesn't belong, have the characters slur their words and cross their eyes for comedic effect, and that's basically all anyone ever expects.
Very rarely, though, do I see someone keep the heart of something in animation and manage to preserve it (and convey it) so well. I legitimately teared up at this because of how powerful the message was.
I really love this style of showing love for games. Please, please keep up the amazing work with Sig and Tessa (super adorable and great btw), and your other works too. :)
Thank you so much! That was exactly my thought process. Majora's Mask was such a special game to me. A few years back I had a generic parody written and was working on it, but I never finished it because it just seemed off.
I was a lot younger when I first played MM, it was probably the first "dark" game I ever played, and all the small details (Like the swordsman cowering in the back of his dojo praying he won't die on the third day) really got to me
And yes! I felt bad delaying Sig and Tessa more, but I originally REALLY wanted to get this out Friday for the release, but then I got assigned a bunch of shifts for valentine's weekend. Sig and Tessa is of course my next project

Oh, my goodness, Mr. Falco. That was incredible! Majora's Mask is my favorite video game of all time, uand I am very protective of it as a result. But, you, my friend, have delivered a beautiful trailer. It is no only the captivating music, but also your spectacular drawings, the staging, the pacing, EVERYTHING. All of these are on point and a superb hallmark to great trailers everywhere, fan-made or otherwise. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, sir! Your content now days is still great and funny, but who could have thought that you could also hit someone that deep.
I felt myself tearing up all throughout this.
I always felt terrible for every npc, and I wanted to help make things right for them all. The ranch sisters in particular were always my favorite characters in the game, and I'll admit it, seeing Cremia breakdown the way she did in this animation is what did me in and made me cry.
This was a fantastic animation, and it captured the feeling of the game perfectly.

This is so fitting, everything works so well, it doesn't even need to mention the darkness or moral cost of things like fierce diety because it already pulls at your heartstrings with the antagonistic realization you cannot save everyone

I loved that part at the end when you flashed "You've met with a terrible fate, haven't you?" That one detail really made this "trailer" soar. (Not that it wasn't before, this kinda made it soar a but higher if that makes any sense)
That was a last second decision when I was looking at the "You can't save everyone" I was like "OH SHIT WHAT IF THAT FADED INTO THE QUOTE"
I just happened to stumble upon this video, and wow! It was very well animated and cinematic! I'm an animator as well, and I can only imagine how hard you worked on this! It's an instant sub for me, and I'm going to watch your other cartoons!
Why did I watch this...that game made me so sad and now this just made me feel twice as terrible. Every Time it hit that last day it didn't matter if I was in a temple or finishing off someone's quest it all just left you empty. You couldn't help everyone. You could only make the last moments of few people happy until it was time to save yourself. And the music playing in those last few hours and the bell ringing made you feel that hopelessness. When you showed some of those key characters you help and their expressions during the bell gave me another grim perception of hay everyone is like when you are away from termina that last day. This should have been the actual trailer cause they do not properly prepare for the emotional roller coaster of Majora's Mask with whatever else Nintendo actually uses. Great job Scott.

when i originally realized that no matter what you do, you can't save everyone in Majora's mask, and in the end people will inevitably suffer, i actually had to stop playing because that was a majorly depressing thought, this trailer is everything the game is, and so much more, exceptional work scott, much love
I jsut love the moon's tear at the end... perfect timing. I have also came up with an extra hard mode for my final 3 day cycle. I call it operation Heart finale, I try to make evreyone happy in 1 cycle before fighting skull kid, Deku's Zora's Goron's Anju and Kaifei, the dancing sisters, Romani ranch , Gorman brothers... but even then I cant save every one...

This is beautiful it captures just what the game is and every second at the end where people are crying, it's like its keeps saying "they all know it's over, and Link knows... He can't save everyone". Then it flashes the terrible fate quote, & the sad music plays as now your just thinking if the music playing over the repeating days of the game. So sad knowing that for some it's a happy ending but for some, it'd be better letting the moon crash and them having their happy ending. 😔

I remember seeing this game as a kid. Never followed stories going on in games as a kid. I mostly just went in and did stuff. Now that I'm older and seeing the story behind Majora's Mask.... Super depressing.
Majora's Mask is pretty much my favorite Zelda game too! It's aesthetically, hauntingly, musically beautiful. Not to mention still fun (as long as you have patience that is)
I've never seen anything that's captured the essence of Majora's Mask like this has. I don't think people, while playing the game, realize there's actually no way everything can turn out alright, and especially for longtime Zelda series players, it almost hurts. But great job on the animation and the video itself, it's absolutely amazing!

You did this game a great service. I don't think I really put myself in the shoes of the NPCs as a kid or thought about that inevitability of death that pervaded the whole game. This is gonna be one of the few Nintendo remakes I look forward to.

Well, you travel back every three days, effectively abandoning that set of Termina. That town will die, as you left it to. You go back to another town with a new set of people, and killing them, a potentially infinite number of times.
