Yes seen it on Broadway with the original cast. It's absolutely amazing. Also seen it in Edinburgh when it was on it's UK tour. Cynthia Erivo plays Elphaba, she is amazing. Watch Harriet if you have not seen it already.
I have seen the show on Broadway 5 times already, and I love the stage performance. However, based on this trailer, I'm not really feeling it for the movie version. To be brutally honest, between the two options, I'd rather spend the $300+ for premium orchestra seats for it on Broadway again before I watch this movie version.

@@TheDistortedTheorists you see a glimpse of Dorothy in the teaser trailer that was released in Feb. Wicked tells the story from a different POV and you see that the Wicked Witch was actually good.

Cynthia Errivo is playing Elphaba. she was in The Color Purple on broadway. both sang all the songs live while filming.

Wicked is about Friendship, Betrayal, Love, Being and outcast. Wicked tells you about why "Wizard of Oz" characters are they way they are. If you ever felt different, insecure, afraid, loved and shuned. You will relate to Wicked. Wicked is All of us! I can go on about Wicked but it will Spoil it. If the Touring company is near you GO see it..don't think about seeing it just go. In the End "Wicked" is about LOVE and ACCEPTANCE.

The musical is based on the novel "Wicked" by Gregory Maguire. Then, it got developed into a musical-meanwhile he released a sequel called "Son of a Witch". So, there is a potential for this to be a franchise, cover the broadway musical, but then do something like "Greatest Showman" and just release movie musicals as sequels. All based on the books.
I think this first movie has potential to take off and create a lot of new fans of an age old franchise. If we are lucky!!

I was told she stars in the actual Broadway production, yes?!?!
This is a two part movie. Part one is actually Act one of the Broadway show and part 2 is actually act 2. We don’t see “wiz of oz” that we know until act 2. Everything is explained in part 2. Everything leads into each other
I'm super excited to see this AND a modern take on the classic story of Dorothy!!
@@TheDistortedTheorists well this story is not so much the story of Dorthy. She’s only mentioned in the play as the girl with the dog. We shall see how the movie portrays them.
@DaveRambles yes that's what I meant I suppose. I wanna get this base coat movie watched first and see how they build to the prophecy!
Wicked is my favorite musical. I've seen it 4 times. It is based on the novel from 1995, Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, by Gregory Maguire. It is my favorite book and book series (There are 3 other books that came out after the musical). It is essentially a commentary on evil and the injustices in the world through the lens of the WWW's life. The book is a lot darker and deeper than the musical, but the musical is still wonderful and mind blowing. I highly recommend looking up the musical and trying the book.

I saw it live with the original cast and I really enjoyed it. I’ve read the book which has a darker tone than the Broadway show. I wonder if the film will be somewhere in the middle. Don’t want to spoil the plot but I like what I see in the trailer.😊

Theres not as much cgi as you think, they built the set in england. The director wanted to do it old school. Maybe in some way a nod to the wizard of oz

The trailer purposely tries to make it seem like she goes dark because of bullying. The real reason has to do with something else entirely, not shown here. It's a much deeper plot twist.
