Interested in books about the architecture and history of the Dakota, Friar Park, and Tittenhurst Park? I've written a bunch about them. You can find all of them on Amazon and elsewhere. Buying my books helps support my research and productions. Thank you! tinyurl.com/DakotaHistoryCardinal
Are there any photos of the stairs from the archway into the concierge office? I’ve only seen photos from the sidewalk. Always been curious what that area looks like

I wouldn’t like having a view of a brick wall out of my 6 million dollar bedroom window.
The overhead shot of the building is wonderful .. love the music.. 🎶 gorgeous apartment.
Thanks. Our friend Brandy actually created that specifically for this video. Now I gotta be nice to her so she does more! :)
Absolutely…….Give me the keys and let’s celebrate !!!
Fascinating. On the floor plan do you think the den/office off the kitchen was originally the maid's room?
Probably since that is where the service stairs and elevator are.
love the channel i have always wanted you to do a video on the biggest most expensive apartment in the building so far my favorite one was the pyramid that was converted with the rooftop entrance.

Yes, if I won lotto- I’d definitely like to bury some money in that- love the old character and what a great location 👍
"Stuff like that" is most definitely interesting to me as well. More fireplace comments. In early days of the Dakota I shall presume that it had steam heat radiators, that should be a given and presume updates and upgrades to that over the years. In the late 19th Century, I am going to go out on a limb and presume that coal was king in NYC fireplaces due to ease of the railroads coming from the north but not yet across the Hudson. The size of some of the fireplaces, some being small, would have burnt coal and the larger fireplaces in the living and dining rooms used wood. Still, after 100 or more years, how would they reline the flus to each apartment? I know that metal is frequently used and in some cases a balloon inflated and grout poured in to reline and amazingly, still working fireplaces. The other curious questions, toilets: Yes, all have been replaced numerous times of the decades, but replumbing or if one wants to move a toilet, move the gas and water, big issues. We know that in prewar and some post war high-rises; when it is time to upgrade the wiring in the apartment, they have to fish a new cable from the individual power meter in the basement all the way up to each apartment as noted by another CZcams channel dedicated to prewar apartment renovations and one situation redoing a fireplace 15 floors below the chimney. Imagine that. How does a chimney draw from that distance. It is the behind the walls subjects that I find most fascinating. Would I like to live in the Dakota? Probably not due to the proximity of the windows to the parts - privacy and security. A prewar on Central Park West - Yes. Then again, I've been to Manhattan about ten times in my life. We presume that even to live in the apartment co-op board approval. The $11,000 monthly fees do not include property taxes and insurance. A price not out of range for Manhattan. In my neighborhood homes go from 3 - 8 million -way out west on a guard gated golf course community.
Furniture looks second hand. No color anywhere. Washed out looking. Love the windows and wood trim. Window in kitchen, etc. Beyond that there is no character. Good job with narration! ❤
If could've done 11k a month, I would've never chosen that place, look's old and dark for my daily life.
What's wrong with old?
on the market 33 days.....
Every window has an air conditioner. The Dakota doesn't have central air? 🥨
It was completed in the 1880s, so no, it doesn't.
11,000 monthly maintenance good Lord
Is the $11K a month similar to an HOA fee in a gated community type neighborhood? What do you receive for the $11K per month (something specific) or does it just cover the cost of the pool, gym, doorman, landscaping & the grounds of the Dakota? Also if you an a plumbing issue, does the Dakota send in it’s own plumber or do you call someone of your choosing? Thanks again for another entertaining video of the Dakota.
The $11k is because residents of the Dakota have shares in the ownership of the building. The amount they ow is based on the value of their apartment. They are all collectively responsible for expenses associated with the upkeep and improvements of the building. That is not going to cover any personal plumbing, etc. expenses unless it is an issue that affects the building itself.
Isn't it true that in order to live in the building you must pass through a residence screening board? I remember reading that Melanie Griffith was denied a few years back.
Yep, it's not easy to get in there. Gotta have plenty of $$$. And celebs are not welcome so much anymore after what happened to John Lennon.
@@StrangeHistoryX That makes sense for sure.
Hey my daughter did some extensive work at Leaonard Bernstein and the Only screams she heard was an ongoing scream from Lauren Becaul 😂😂😂😂😂
Nice big spaces but the decor & furniture is a bit tired, dark & dreary. And probably why the price has dropped. With all that money the owners should invest in a staging consultation. Or add some light cheerful paint & slipcovers; fresh flowers & a few sleek modern chairs & tables. The design contrasts would do wonders for the historically "heavy" looking space.
Yeah, the furniture was pretty shabby and dated.
Some of the other Dakota apartments profiled have colored walls and period furnishings, but those atmospheres glow with character and depth whereas this does not. The “updated” white (and bright) subway tiled bathroom is a missed opportunity.
In my opinion, modern furniture would do a disservice to the nature of the building. I do think some large plants and lighting fixtures would help a lot. The walls would benefit from millwork and mirrors, and the large windows need substantial drapery rather than the sad, plain panels that are currently hanging limply.
I get the feeling that this apartment was vacated by an elderly gentleman - hence the unimaginative decor.
@6:00 So who eventually DID buy John & Yoko's apartment... (Saudi prince MBS perhaps?)
It belongs to Sean.
I'll send you hugs and kisses instead of superchats!
What crappy furniture for a millionaire, looks like salvation army but I would probably still keep it to feel grounded with my memories. The home is so wonderful but I would call the police if Yoko started her nightmare singing, lol. 😂😂🤮🤮🎤🎤🎵🎵😬😬😱😱😱😱
