    Lexington does lack racial and ethnic diversity but it is politically progressive. You don't tend to find the same racial problems here that you do elsewhere. I'm know there's lots of room for improvement and that should always be a prime motivation but compared to the rest of country, it's pretty good here. Law enforcement truly seems to make an effort not reach out to minority communities. I always say that Lexington's minorities and police are just like everyone else, just a little bit nicer.

      @@knowthycell you're quite correct from a national perspective but compared to rural Kentucky or the rest of the 'Red States' it's is pretty progressive. Pro- Abortion, has a gay pride parade, urban government was an early adopter of sexual orientation as a protected class. Leave Lexington and go 25 miles in any direction and it's a whole different story.

    Just moved to Lex from El Paso, TX. Hanging out in a hotel off of Nicholasville Rd waiting on my apartment. The traffic is rough during rush hours, but that is true of any city. Popeyes definitely beats KFC. And all fied chicken here is Kentucky fried. Humidity will definitely be a bit of adjustment coming from a desert. But I love all the grass, trees, rivers, and lakes. Going to take my son for his first horseback ride next weekend too.

    Thank you for doing this series! I'm not a native Lexingtonian, but I got here as soon as I could!! I am a descendant of original Kentucky settlers and couldn't be more proud of my Appalachian heritage, and I LOVE LEXINGTON, and I love living right in the middle of downtown!!

    I come from Georgia (Savannah River Area). Humidity is almost 100% 9 months out of the year. So I know what you mean. Also growing up in Atlanta to me the traffic here in Lex is like a drive on a Sunday morning. The reason for having such interest in Lex is in Feb, 2019 I was living in Richmond and had an aneurysm burst in the back of my head. Richmond wasn't able to handle it so I was transferred to U.K. Healthcare. Spent three weeks in ICU and two weeks in rehabilitation, learning how to walk again. So to me Lexington saved my life. Now my background is in programming and I see Lexington as having the possibility of being the next midsize town for upstarts. I really want to be a part of helping this happen. I like the content you publish as it does help sort ideas and clear my thoughts as to work to look for. Thanks.

    Very informative video. I would say the 2 thinks that are a pain in Lexington is the weather and the traffic. Yes, I live inside the circle so it is a better commute for me. All in all, the traffic isn't that bad compared to bigger cities.

  • @lex6819
    @lex6819 Před 2 lety +5

    There are over 185 different languages spoken here. So, wherever you come from, you can probably find an enclave of other people from your country of origin here. The University of Kentucky attracts many students and professors from overseas. Also, racial stats sometimes don't include Hispanic as a category, and even some government forms lack it as a category which is weird. So, the percentage of white is probably inflated because there aren't enough boxes to check for the diversity of people we have, so they just pick white.

    • @staceykelly4211
      @staceykelly4211 Před 4 měsíci

      I wondered where Hispanic went! We have a wonderful Hispanic community here from all over Mexico, Central, South America, and (probably to a bit lesser extent here) the Caribbean. Beautiful cultures that are treasured!

    There is such a thing as too much diversity. When you throw a bunch of different people into one area there is always conflict. They can all "act" like they get along but being fake all the time would get old very fast. I live 25 minutes from Lexington out in the country on 12 acres and I have about 8 neighbors within a 1/2 mile radius. I avoid Lexington and Louisville except when passing through to go somewhere else. Out here we wave at each other on the road except for the ones commuting to Lex or Lou that were not raised right and dont see other drivers as human beings worth acknowledging. City folks seem a bit more dog eat dog and ready to rage. They will even fight over a parking place but I digress......

    The traffick in Lexington is not that bad. Lol. If it's bad at all it's only at certain times. During those rush hour times it's still not that bad. Go down to Atlanta for a weekend. Or get stuck in traffic during one of their rush hours. I disagree with that one about traffic. The one about humidity is true we'll see what else I disagree with. I've lived here my whole life. About the price of homes. Of course you're going to pay more to live in the city then if you lived in Nicholasville where I grew up. That's going to be true anywhere you go. So that's irrelevant if it's something that happens everywhere. And it is. Go get a house on the north end like between 7th Street and 3rd Street. You'll get a house as cheap as one in Nicholasville. And that brings us to our next one diversity. If you get a house between 3rd and 7th Street you get the added bonus of all that diversity. LOL Lexington is not very ethnically diverse as far as restaurants and shops and that kind of thing go. So I can see that but the percentages are pretty normal with the national percentages. It does seem a little segregated but I don't mind that. I like to get along with my own people. That's what people have done since the beginning of civilization. This diversity crap is way blown out of proportion. Even the minorities stay together because that's what they want to do. I don't mind living around other people that are a different color. But if there's crime in the neighborhood then I do mind. And guess where that happens to be. In the black neighborhoods. So that disqualifies me from wanting that diversity. Let's see what the next one is. As far as ticks go I think I've seen two ticks in the last 20 years. I don't get that. Now where I grew up in the country there were a lot of ticks. But they weren't that big of a deal. If you got one on you you picked it off it's not like they swarmed you or anything. I think that about covers it. I give this video a D. Better than a D minus or a f.

    • @jessielakes8118

      Of course the price to live in Lexington is going to be more than it is to live in Nicholasville or Winchester or Versailles. That's the price you pay to live in the city. But the rent and the cost of a home is not drastically different. That's something that's going to happen anywhere you go. The price is going to be different if you're in town. Damn. Let's go to the next one.
