    I find it truly amazing that not only was a young EVH practicing hours upon hours on end to become one of the greatest guitarist of all time......but in the middle of that, he was working on his tone. Steve Vai said in an interview recently that when he first heard VH1, that was what really blew his mind - the tone.

    • @rubenreza
      @rubenreza  Před 2 lety +5

      Agreed. Same here - when I first heard it, Ed’s tone just blew me away. The only other band at the time that had a great tone was Boston.

    • @michaelj3959
      @michaelj3959 Před 2 lety +1

      @@rubenreza I beg to differ. One of my favorite guitar players from that time period is Michael Schenker. He had a pretty distinctive tone himself. Although, UFO wasn't as well known as VH or Boston, Schenker's guitar playing ranks right up there with those guys. Listen to a 19 year old Michael Schenker playing "Oh My" from the 1974 album "Phenomenon" or "Lights Out" from the live album "Strangers In The Night" and you'll see what I mean.
      I liked your video though. I've been trying to emulate Ed's tone with my Digitech RP355 and I just can't get it right. I've been watching videos like this trying to get tips on adjusting my settings. Thanks for the vid.

      @@michaelj3959 I don't know. This is all subjective. I love Michael Schenker, great guitar player. However, his TONE was never that great. Listen to anything that came out the same year as VH & you'll see the difference in tone.

Incredible tonal characteristics and control. I also really like how you broke it down near the end.... and added each effect in there, one at a time, so we could hear what each did in the chain. Cool, thank you... My only comment would be that people who want to copy the skateboard idea, might want to ensure the stomp buttons of the outer pedals (delay and phaser) are slightly inside (between) the axle centres of the skateboard trucks. Otherwise an over excited ‘stomp’ might make the other end of the board pop up... Possibly pulling out leads, or worse.

      Ruben ,Sir, you are the Best Choice to sit in with Sammy ,Micheal , and Alex ,or Jason , whither they are playing Concerts , Recording New Music , or Playing the Much Talked About ,Possible Upcoming Van Halen Trubute to Eddie !!
      You Sir ,can play " Circles " 🔵 around the lead guitarist they have now ,whose name is Vic . I watched some videos of Sammy and the " Circle " play some Van Halen Songs recently ,where Micheal done the lead vocals of a particular song off of Van Halen 1 . Micheal singing wasn't too shabby , better than Sammy's on the particular song ,because Sammy can't hit the highs like he used to , but Vic's cover guitar of the song ,just made the whole effort of the band covering a song off of the Original first album of Van Halen , quiet heartbreaking 💔 You Sir can play any Eddie Van Halen Guitar ,to any Van Halen song ,🎵 Note for Note , unlike Vic's limited guitar capability. With the possibility of All Three Former Vocalists of Van Halen to perform in the "Tribute to Eddie Van Halen" , You Sir, "Ruben Reza" are the " One " to recreate ,and perform these songs that we so love and cherish , grew up on , and still love and connect with Eddie from. I'm sure if Alex ever heard you play , He would insist ,having you play the majority of the songs He would choose for the " Tribute" . It's very clear to me that you should be Hooked Up with Alex Van Halen and just see what might transpire.... I hope I haven't stepped over my boundaries being so forthcoming, but I just want at least ,one more chance to experience the same great feelings of so many Great years and great songs and see "Eddie Van Halen " properly represented by a fellow lifelong admirer and Guitar Great as yourself !!! Nothing ventured ,nothing gained ?
      PS Thanks Ruben for the comments and the link you sent me ! I'm thoroughly enjoying every bit of it !!! Much Appreciated my friend !!!❤ Keep the Videos coming !!! They are Great !!

    • @rubenreza

      Chorus at the end, before delay and reverb. Wah is subjective. Most of the time it goes up front but I’ve actually used it after distortion on rare occasion ‘cause I liked the dirty wah sound. Octave up front ‘cause you want a clean octave happening. Not sure exactly what you mean by line selector - A/B box?

      @Vandelay--Industries Před 28 dny

      He also had the advantage of pro studio rack equipment to get all of his iconic sounds (flanger, chorus, phaser, etc.) which was a big part of his tone. You are absolutely right his sound was in his hands. 100%. Us regular folks have to rely on pedals to achieve those sounds that are not built into valve amps. I guess you can always get a solid state digital amp with everything built in. You would be surprised he did use some pedals performing live. Anyway it's all part of his amazing brown sound.
