  • @Itchy-Pixel

    I have an older Ipad pro and just picked up the Air 13, I use it predominantly for digital art and the 60hz is slightly noticable if you are doing long fast lines but for what you will be mostly doing while drawing and painting it is a non issue, you are shown a slowed down version of the worst case in this video. I do notice it while scrolling websites sometimes but really it's fine and you get used to it. Don't use that as your reason to upgrade because the saving is worth it if you want it for digital art.

    • @AppleInsider
      @AppleInsider  Před 2 měsíci +1

      I agree, like I said, they’re “nice to have” things, not dealbreakers. Yes the pencil can lag and scrolling is behind but it’s still fast. Most people don’t care about refresh rates

    • @Itchy-Pixel
      @Itchy-Pixel Před 2 měsíci

      @@AppleInsider Yeah... I am not calling anything out in your video as misleading.... I just wanted artists to know not to use the 60hz as a deal breaker. For a digital artist the main reason to go pro would be the OLED screen for color accuracy/contrast and the 16gb ram version to allow more layers "only 12gb usable though" and the 16gb is only available on the 1tb and above which is a serious price increase. I would say the Air 13 with 256gb storage is probably enough for most artists but if you go pro you really need to step up to the 13inch 1tb and that is pretty much a $1000 increase. If you can justify it then it might be worth it for you but for 95% of people probably not.
      Apple could have easily put a 90hz panel in the Air to make it fit better in the line up and the price bracket. 60hz with a tablet this price is not a good selling point.

    I am very undecided between getting an Ipad Air M2 11' (2024) or an Ipad Pro M2 11' (2022). They look almost the same to me and with the same chip probably the same amount of updates?
    In my country, the Air is still cheaper, I can buy the Air 128gb for 690-730 euros or the Pro M2 128gb for 799 euros while the stores have stock remaing so I cant take long to make a decision.
    So its around 100 euros diference, being both new, with included taxes and 3 years of warranty.
    Me and my husband dont have any tablets for like 7 years now and will use mostly for media consuption, video calls, note taking and light gaming.
    I understand that the Pro has the faster screen, better speakers and Face ID. But the Air has the selfie camera on the right side and support for Pencil Pro.
    Any opinions? 😊

    At 1:22 you are correct, the blacks are definitely darker. But the one thing nobody is talking about is the fact that you cannot control the contrast on your iPad! That means if you were watching a show that is dark - you miss a lot of what’s happening in the shadows. I’ve been testing my original iPad Pro 11 inch from 2020 versus an iPad Air 13 2024 and the iPad Pro 13 2024 for a week now. I am shocked to say that the new pro is not enough of the difference. I really was expecting faster data to transfer - it’s almost identical. The pro speakers are better than the air. but it’s nominal.
    I’m an artist and I edit video on my iPad with 4K 60 FPS and I’m still blown away by the fact that my 2020 iPad is neck neck with the brand new one. The only reason I’m looking to upsize is because of the screen size for drawing and the lightweight of the pads

      But ya. Answering your question the best option for you is the iPad Air. Already with its performance will be more than enough. The pro I only recommend it for that "pro", "professional" audience. People who use their iPads for programming, 3D design, 4K video editing, rendering, drawing plans, or who are professional artists. .... Something like that. For the rest of the population. For 90% of the population the iPad air will be more than enough.

      Something important to know too, is that *most* tasks are single-core tasks. They barely tax the processor. Browsing safari, opening emails, reading the news, scrolling on Twitter -- all single-core tasks. You'll notice that apps launch slightly quicker. It's only when you're doing more involved tasks like playing games, coding, performing calculations, working in graphics apps, editing video, exporting video -- that kind of stuff, do the multiple cores kick in and you notice more of a difference. The benchmarks are basically showing when you max out the processor, what can they do.

    I have no need to spend $500 more for the iPad Pro "enhancements" compared to the iPad Air. The real deficiency is iPadOS, which is the same for both platforms. As much as Apple keeps trying to raise the bar and convince people that the iPad Pro can be a laptop replacement, it is really only true for casual users who surf the web, send email, do social networking, and play some games. For a work compute device, a MacBook is still the better choice. So, that leaves the iPad Air as being a better tablet bargain than an iPad Pro.
    The 2024 WWDC "announcements" will likely leave the next version of iPadOS still short of being a worthy OS to let iPad replace a MacBook for work.
