Why Was the Resurrection of Jesus Surprising?

- Since Jesus had repeatedly told his disciples he would be raised on the third day, why were they surprised when it happened? What did they-and other first century Jews-believe about the resurrection? Also, the Old Testament has no explicit prophecy of the Messiah’s resurrection on the third day, so what does Paul mean when he says that Christ was raised “on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures”? In this week’s video, @chadbird1517 explores these issues to help us better understand the events of Holy Week.
Thank you, Chad. Greetings from Greece. Christ is risen indeed.
Excellent, thank you Chad.
God bless you. I am reading your books, they are filled with spiritual depth and clarity. God bless you.
Great job, brother. Most attempts to explain OT prophecies of the resurrection inevitably turn into prophecies of Jesus being the Messiah and not of the Resurrection itself. Thank you, this was really helpful.
Also in Job 25 🙌🏼
Great !
Curious, Scripture always references the 3rd day, each 3rd day needs a starting point to enable us to count to the 3rd day. Are these starting points just as significant?
That’s a great point. We might say, in some instances, that the first day introduces the problem to be solved or journey to begin.
I think what is "most surprising" is, to understand what Jesus has done, you have to go back to Moses, then back to Abraham, and then back to Adam & Eve. Without the "first Adam", the "second Adam" cannot make sense. This is the most amazing of all possible miracles.
A load of crap. Seeing things were there is none. A prime example of cherry picking texts and using them out of context to fit a false narrative. Similar to shooting an arrow then painting the target around it.
Ask God for the wisdom and humility you lack sister
