I spent 10 years in vietnam and that sense of freedom you kept mentioning was one of the main appeals of the place. But I think with all the changes in the country during that time and changes in government and policies and the way it’s developing that freedom is getting less and less.
They are definitely at a crossroads right now I think. The influence of China is always there, and I think things may get stricter here as time goes on with advancing technologies. I hope it doesn't become like China
@@expatnam yeah technology is giving these sorts of regimes more ways to control everything, even China itself wasn’t so bad 10-15 years ago compared to now where they have basically turned the whole country into a prison for its people.
In terms of Infrastructure its still about 20-30yrs behind Thailand and the west.. but that is kinda part of the charm of the place.. the noise is literally the ONLY issue I have ever had with the place.. and as I have gotten older Peace & Quiet has become more n more important to me so will see how that goes.. but for food and the people its second to none!! I'm headed out east early next yr so will see how Long I last after 3yrs in UK of peace, quiet and fresh air.. yet to experience Thailand so that will be interesting!
Thailand is a great spot imo, and if you can work remotely or have good long term finances then it could be a better option than here if you're looking for somewhere a bit quieter but still with all the charms of Asia. Maybe 4 months Nam, 4 Thai and 4 UK....

I'm with you on the loss of confidence in the political system. Everywhere, it's a mess. Pretty much the entire world has gone to crap. Not just the political system but so much more.
So, I'm out.
Retreating to a quiet simple life where no one will bother me. Vietnam. I lived there for 1 year and loved it. I feel free there. Everything is pleasant. Well, 96% anyway. Good enough for me.
The world has lost its way. We accept way too many things that are entirely unacceptable. And, we behave in ways that are entirely unacceptable.

Singapore's hospitals r very overcrowded n understaffed now! Yet medical fees r very high...Not in a good state at the moment...

Reputation wise, Yes. But the standard of public hospitals is going downhill (as the govt is extremely profit-oriented). Singapore govt hires most of the nurses from third-world countries like Philippines n now they even want to get in more doctors from India. Very crowded n understaffed now...I'll be afraid to go to a public hospital in Singapore now (n one will end up with a hefty medical bill). Well, election seems to be coming soon in Singapore n hope Singappreans will vote wisely!

Thanks for the info. I have lived in India and the horn blowing is a lot worse there. They are just blowing horns to let others around them know where they are. A lot more cars than bikes there. I couldn't drive in either country. Haha. For my Visa run, i will either visit Thailand or Cambodia.
Bangkok is a good shout-only an hour from HCM, or you can do a direct flight to Phuket now at a similar price with Vietjet which might be interesting for a few days. The horns have been getting to me recently as you can probably tell from the tone of this video lol.
@@expatnam i know i will hate it when i get there in January. But i think DaNang traffic is a little better in regards to the horns. Haha

Sure, but interesting to compare having lived in both for a long time.
How noisy compare to BKK? since BKK has so much going as well, from building massive constructions to renovating old facilities like almost in every corner.
IMO i think VN is more noisy. One of the biggest differences is the use of 'horns' here is out of control and adds a lot to noise pollution.

People in vn use horn to save from traffic accident, vn even have low traffic accident compare to Thailand, united states and South korea (in 2021 it is 58 dead per 1000 000 People in vn,in united states it is 100 dead per 1000 000,in south Korea it is 100 dead per 1000 000,in Thailand it is 250 dead per 1000 000,im japan it is 30 dead per 100 000)...
Just got a temporary resident visa - married to a Việt - but still needs her to sign off on me every 5 years, lol. I cannot be gone for >180 days.
That's about as permanent as it gets for us i'd say. It's a bugbear of mine that even after many years i still can't get anything remotely permanent here unless i'm 'sponsored' by work or another person.

Vietnam, although noisy on the roads, is less than India, Nepal and Bangladesh, and it is safer here. America and England, which only have racism and racism and like to force their democracy for other nations to follow, which people are good or bad, it's not about the system of government at all. Vietnam is good, never. To invade other countries, he does not act as a hegemon, does not dictate and intimidate other countries.
Vietnam does take a 'neutral' stance on many things. I wouldn't say the UK is racist though, in fact very much the opposite and much less than the US. Of course if you look at the history of the UK it's a different matter, but that's a complicated debate!

Thai people still wearing mask 99% of time makes it less friendly. I don't really see Thailand taking off mask in 2023 as well.
It's similar in VN but even before covid people would wear masks routinely here almost always on the roads and sometimes out and about as well.

Good question. More recently yes, although i have quite a broad range of friends/acquaintances. Expats here tend to be a bit more stereotyped in that you get the heavy drinkers, the high earning managers/directors/the social recluses etc. In fact i might do a video on this topic....

i like your channel you do a good job i like vet nam its great but only 1 month visa no good nams economy is in trouble its debt is high it could collapse and send it back 20 years it is selling off its american debt every month you also know it is one of only two countrys in the world that is true communist so yes there is a undertone the dollar against the dong losses ground all the time and your uk is in bad bad shape my friend i live in kampot cambodia a great small town i would like to retire in nom but but no long term visa so i wait no hurry cambodia is great.
I have a feeling they'll bring back the 3 month visa at some point...but i can see a lot of pro China gesturing right now for example the gov. here are visiting Xi at the moment to congratulate him etc so it could go either way. Cambodia definitely easier for longer term living in regards to visas right now.
Could you extract any official clue showing Vietnam’s debt is high? As I read from many official reports Vietnam’s public debt was on a steady decline during the past five years from 61.4% of the GDP in 2017 to 43.1% in 2021. Government debt, government-guaranteed debt and local government debt also decreased. Specifically, government debt, government-guaranteed debt and local government debt dropped from 51.7%, 9.1%, and 1.1% of GDP in 2017 to 39.1%, 3.8% and 0.6% in 2021, respectively.
In international comparison, Vietnam's debt is manageable. The situation is completely different in many other countries: In Greece, the public debt ratio in 2020 reached around 192%, in Italy 157%, and in Germany 74% of GDP. Compared to these countries, Vietnam’s figure is still very good. However, since the situation is different, and should be looked at in more detail elsewhere. To be fair, Vietnam's GNP has grown strongly in recent years, which makes it easier - so even with a slight increase in expenditure (below the economic growth rate) - to reduce the public debt.
The country's foreign debt remained at 38.4% by the end of 2021, compared to 49% in 2017
No any signal showing Vietnam economy is in trouble and likely collapse as you think.
