Ideal Cars hey brotha so heres the thing. That is actually me in the video at 2:15 driving. The s50 and in regards to e36 platform is not that good if im gonna be honest. I track my car and have a 3.91 diff the motor does not hold up well to track abuse ive gone through a couple m3 motors. I finally had the guts to pull the swap and do s54 and that now feels like it was meant for this car. If your local in los angeles i can show you the car if your down. Let me know

1999 Coupe in Dakar Yellow. Added the vert's cross-brace. BavSound speakers, with Alpine headunit and Alpine amp/subwoofer (yes, I'm also an audiophile). Will be installing ST coils soon and Active Autowerke's software.
I bought my e36 with 177k miles. Got it with a seconday air injection code. I now have had it for over 2 years & all Ive done to it was a change an alternator & radiator. IMO most reliable bmw they ever made. I drifted, raced it multiple times & still running strong the car is a champ!!!

I actually love the fact that, being an E36 M3 3.2 Evo Owner, you can't really distinguish between the different E36 models due to the subtle styling cues - It gives a lot of other drivers a very big surprise when they realise that they can't keep up or catch up.
Have a 99 m3 convertible..in hellrot red with hardtop and Vader seats....love it...owned 5 bmw..this is my favorite

My 99 M3 'vert has given me countless hours of driving pleasure! I bought it a few years ago in rough shape. It was pimped out with a bunch of chrome garbage and everything was falling off of it. The engine was surprisingly in great shape, but the suspension and the transmission were both shot. It sat for a couple of years unloved in my garage, but last year I started restoring it to its former glory. I replaced the slushbox with a proper manual gearbox, bolted on some BC Racing BR series coilovers, redid all of the bushings, replaced the dry rotted rubber with some new Pilot Sports, and meticulously replaced cosmetic parts it inside and out. After all was said and done, the car feels like new, and it's ready to be driven hard for years to come. I absolutely love these cars! They're very rewarding to drive, and they have so much soul. I 1000% recommend anyone to buy one

I had one just like this which I sold when I got married (bought a house), now I bought a senconf E36 M3 97 Silver /black vaders. I love this car, has 245k miles and will be my full track car soon! Gotta find another one though!

That the M3 they got in the USA was not an M3 but a M330i... 90hp less than Europe!

My E36 M3 is a white 1997 sedan with grey vaders and black trim also with a dinan tune with the dinan exhaust and cold air intake plus I also have the car on bilstein suspension.
Aha another guy that likes vaders swapped into the sedan! I've always had a soft spot for that swap. I think very few people know vaders didn't come in the sedans, so when you know... you know :)
The last e36 I bought was running Bilstein PSS9's. What a fantastic coil over suspension! Couldn't get enough of it on my drive home!

Thanks for this video. Helped me when I was looking for my 99 M3 coupe. I agree that it is pretty bulletproof. Took mine to the track and beat it harder than I’ve ever beaten any car and zero problems during the session or since.
I've owned 4 E36 2 M3s which I still own and I've owned an E46 M3.
My 328i was flawless. Had no problems until a drink driver ran in to it. Then I had a 328is. Did a full M3 conversion except the S52. Was a crap ton of fun and I got parts with a case of beer. I wrecked that 328is in a canyon run. Rookie mistake. Then I bought an M3 and that is my current track car. I've driven a myriad of cars and nothing feels like my track ready Cosmos M3. I still own it and it's getting ready for an S54 swap. Next I bought an E46 M3 for 19k and that car had way too many issues. The car was beautiful but it was a maintenance queen. My friend ended up wrecking that car. Next with his insurance money I bought another Daily. Which is a clean all original Arctic E36 M3 and couldn't be happier. I did an M50 swap after I blew the S52 due to a shop forgetting to torque the rod bolts correctly and it's getting ready for turbo now. 400HP daily!
I bought a 95 m3 coupe with an s52 swap for 6k at the start of this year. By far my favorite car to work on ever, favorite car to drive as well.
Have a 98.5*e36 dakar yellow 2 vert. The top down is a awesome experience everyone needs to embrace every once in awhile.
I really enjoyed my estoril convertible! Dakar II is up there as one of my favorite colors too! Def an Ideal spec! Enjoy that thing the way the M engineers meant it to be enjoyed!

Got an Estoril M345 over mulberry. 1/25 in the US. Had it for a little over two years and I couldn't ask for a better car. Next whip goals is between E90 M3, E46 M3, or an E39 M5.
I'm starting to wonder how rare my 98 estoril on mulberry coupe was. Guess I didn't really think about it at the time. Out of that list, I'd say 1 - e39 m5, 2 - e46 m3 3 - e90 m. I thought my e90 m was gonna feel like my e39 m5, but it was completely different. For some reason I enjoyed the m5 more.. mostly because it felt more like a classic, and actually had torque down low.

Got a 95 m3 in estroil blue!! Number 76 off the assembly line too! Seems low to me!! Ltw spoiler and x- brace, RMS stage 1 supercharger and suspension goodies. Im a huge fan of M cars especially the e36 chassis!!

Ideal e36 - hellrot 4 door, any of the OEM 17'' wheels, light flywheel to wake it up, tad bit stiffer bushings, engine mounts to sharpen it up. Thats about it.
Currently have a 97' 323ti technoviolet.
Rear strut mounts rip out, not the rear spring . you can't even see spring mounts in the trunk. your looking at the strut tops under the carpet. Even if they are cracked, it's a easy and cheap repair.
My ideal e36 would probably just be a E36 LTW in white with the M checkered flag and all, it’d be easy to say a euro spec or the ridiculous Aussie only M3-R w/a ~320hp beast, but the latter would be 1 of a handful and the former isn’t exactly common in the US either, so I’d go for the White Lightweight with the flag because I had a friend whos brother had one and I thought it was amazing.
Yup! That is such an iconic M! The LTW's shaved about 200 lbs off of the regular M3, which improved almost every performance metric. It's funny that back in 95 dealers couldn't give these away... and now their going for over 100k!
Bought My ideal spec E36 M3 6 years ago. Estoril 1999 5 speed W/black vaders & LTW rims. loaded with Dinan & Euro spec goodies..aswell as a super rare genuine Hartge adjustable rear spoiler ;) such an awesome car not too many with that spec good luck finding one brother.

Learned a lot of fine details from this video. Only critique is the euro s50 pics lol. Few things to remember… the S52 did actually come with auto and 3.38 lsd. Once had a 99 vert. Currently own a big turbo 97 estoril coupe and a 98 come black 3/4/5 with plenty Dinan goodies.
I actually like this E36 generation. The newer one is a modern classic but the first entry E36 isn't a modern classic but it's a old school brick like design and I have to give it some slack. I prefer the entry E36.
My dad still has the M3 Sedan but too bad it overheated like two times and the engine is ruined but it's fixed and still running this year

Also had a 98 Cosmo M3 5/4 ...and also sorry I sold it. Replaced it with a 2015 WRX. The WRX was a great car, but it just didn’t feel as satisfying as the M3.

Ideal: 1995 white 2 door with luxury package and the m contour wheels. I like the way the climate control is and the way the doors inside are leather stitched. I regret selling that car to this day 15 years later.

i love my euro S50b32 e36 m3 evolution vert has my ideal spec of estoril blue with black vaders, full brembo gt brake kit with e46 m3 csl discs, full suspension rebuild with full poly bush, kwv3 coilovers, H&R adjustable anti roll bars, shorter throw quick shift gear linkage, schrick 284 cams, mac motoren carbon fibre airbox, vems standalone ecu, eisemnmann race exhaust, racelogic digital traction and launch control, 3.62 low ratio lsd, lightened single mass flywheel , M5 clutch. MPSS tyres and m2 wheels . handling, sound and performance is amazing and she eats e46 m3 for breakfast.

Powerband is anything but linear, there is a huge power spike when VANOS kicks in about 2800rpm

The cracks are fixable, but my god is it annoying to do. Just reinforce your car the day you get it. The extra thickness does wonders. Its what bmw would want you to do.
I have a 1997 estroil on dove gray interior, ltw wing and bbs style 5’s, and manual transmission.
My ideal M3 is E36 M3 coupe whit Estroil Blue,Double Spoke MotorSport Rims,Gray Wader Interior, S50B32 engine and 6 speed manual transmission
And keep it bone stock
Only few coolant system mods to prevent issues in the future

I got bit curious and decided to look for E36 M3's for sale worldwide and there are only 736 E36 M3's have those specs.
Sedan all the way (stick, of course), on Bilstein coilovers, in estoril blue, square set up, style 39m oem wheels. I love mine, even though it's black, but that just makes it look more evil!

I would have my e36 m3 in green metallic whatever the name is lol with beige or brown leather in manual (upgrade to 6 speed afterwards) in coupé or saloon version with of course the spoiler of course and with the stock dished wheels to start with and maybe after aftermarket ones like Cosmis or König and with cruise control and the three spoke steering wheel and with the common issues reinforced and maybe even fully adjustable coilovers like Bilstein for example or Tein or another brand and...? lol 🏎 In the meantime I am looking for a green or blue one that has been well looked after with the inline six with at least 170hp or 200 ish for a e46 or a 328i e36 here in France!

no you can't have mine - the limits of grip are actually insane - 'maybe' those that don't own one would label it a 'momentum' car but I drive mine around 4 to 5 K rpm - anything more would be insane on twisty public roads - although I'm sure BMW's Factory Drivers would say ' what's the big deal ' .......
Been waiting to see if/when you’d plug or at least link the “most reliable m3” video, seems like that should be a guaranteed click from anyone who watches any of these last 3, may be worth dedicating some screen real estate to that link.

This car is such a big deal and we didn’t even get the best version in the states... bmw wasn’t even going to give us the E36 M3 but thankfully a lot of protests and petition from real car enthusiasts and we got it,somewhat half assed version like here you go fuckers. Atleast we got the S52 with the little extra torque,they could of stuck us with S50 if the sales weren’t so good for the 95 model: Bmw didn’t think it would sell well here and looked what they become in America thanks to their M cars.... 7 different SUVs out now with most having an M version,6-7 different series models and if I’m not mistaken all have/had M versions that sell good including the competition M cars and M badged non M cars that also sell like hot cakes plus the extra cool versions of the M cars like M3 CS
