I just finished it last night. Man that series spoke to me like no other. It's packaged as anticapitilist/anachist but it's so much more than that. Such a dark and lonely vibe but actually made me feel connected to the world in a more meaningful way.

I remember when I was 14-16 years old. At that time I was at high school in Brazil during the pandemic, studying remotely. At that time, I had a dream: Work in the science field to help humanity reach the outer space. I was considering Biological Science course at first, and even thought about doing Aerospace Engineering. I was full of dreams, studying about our Solar System, Rockets, imagining some Spaceships, Astronauts suits... These thoughts would keep me awake at night, creating stories, studying... But with time, I realized that being a astronaut or working in that field is really hard.
In Brazil, we have no space agency (matter of fact, our president said it's dumb for billionaires to fly rocket ships instead of helping the poor). I am a older child of a low-medium income... So I kind of abandoned that dream... But the dream never abandoned me.
In the end I decided to do Software Engineering. I fell in love with programming in general, to the point of coding projects for fun instead of playing videogames or whatever.
These songs (and specially this album) is pretty important to me. I used to listen and have goosebumps with this song. When I was 14 I'd turn of all lights, put it on max volume on my headphones and fly, imagining myself in the International Space Station, flying to the moon...
Now, 5 years later, I am here coding. I don't know how, or why, but I feel like I should not give up about my dream. And, coincidence or not, a girl I don't know, never heard of, started following me on insta. I thought it was a bot or a prank, but no, she is real hahaa. We started reacting to each other stories, than talking, chatting, calling each other. She is Christian (I am too), she lives to a state close to mine (around 100km of distance). And guess what? She is doing Aerospace Engineering, even visited the ESA in Europe. I don't know what plans God have for me, or us, but this is connected! I feel like this will happen! My dream is not dead!

There are THOUSANDS of M83 fans that don't really know the music or the story at all. Like you, it's not my favorite album from them (I adore the first 4) but this was my gateway album into the world of dream pop and, eventually, shoegaze, which I am very grateful for. At the same time, it's my favorite album of all time because of the insane emotional trip and high energy flow

This album was amazing when it was first released, but it has since taken on a new meaning for me... a very close friend of mine died tragically in a motorcycle accident at the age of 27, just last week. If we ever spoke of M83 it was only once or twice... it was definitely not his preferred choice of music... but for whatever reason I found myself coming back to this album and damn near every song reminds me of him... I am simultaneously overcome with sadness and full of joy for being lucky enough to have known him. Thank you to M83 for making such wonderful music and thank you Brian for being such a great friend. I will miss you forever, brother.

Now i'm a freshman and during one of my night conversations with my best friends from school i told them about it. They found it really interesting and now we're creating a whole universe based on this idea, for me - based on this album. We are running across the city at night, no longer alone, no longer misunderstood. I think it's really pretty :')

I was playing GTA V recently once again and midnight city came to the radio. I had never paid much attention to the song but this time it just struck a cord. I went online to find who were the geniuses behind this. Came across M83 that way.

When this album came out I didn't yet know who Zola Jesus was. Years later I got really into her stuff and saw her live too. She isn't credited for this song on Spotify, and so when I listened to it again the other day for the first time in a long time I was like "holy shit is that Zola Jesus??".... she always sounds incredible
