  • Based on the story of an English school teacher in 1860s Siam, Rodgers and Hammerstein’s The King and I is back on Broadway in a production starring Ken Watanabe and Kelli O’Hara. The musical received nine Tony nominations this year including a sixth nomination for O’Hara, who also made her Metropolitan Opera debut this past holiday season.     Where is the Orchestra ???
    When they use a brass band instead of
    a proper Orchestra it cheapens the show .
    And that is why the old Org. cast recordings
    are so wonderful .
    Richard Rodgers would weep ………

      Cheap is the right word. Tickets are expensive, but it's all about the cash.

      This production used a 30 piece orchestra with the full, original orchestrations. I saw it twice and the orchestra was thrilling.

      This does Not sound like a full orchestra at all. It immediately struck me as a chintzy, cheap sound...
