  • This easy to make dubbing brush/teaser tool has been a constant on my fly tying table for over a decade. I use this tool for brushing out dubbed bodies on flies, removing underfur from clipped hair, and for taming knotty marabou flies. The magnet is optional but comes in handy for finding lost hooks, and for sticking to metal surfaces.
    What you need.
    Popsicle Sticks
    Super Glue
Velcro (male or hook side only)
    Neodymium Magnet or craft magnet

What's up?!? Nice diy. You are a model of efficiency. Magnet is nice touch. That ultimate is a gun cleaning tool, I take it you don't use it much? I tried the cut down toothbrush, some one said they ground the head down to narrow it and cut the bristels too, I could never get a grip on them to cut down so I found a child's toothbrush to use. I've used my lancets for blood samples but for as small as they are they have a wicked cutting edge, similar to how Lefty Kreh hones his hook points. Mine cut the wire on my first zonker I tied. I mostly use my bodkins that I've made but after seeing all the Velcro on a stick brushes I bought some at the $tore, haven't made it yet. I have some magnets (we used to play with them as kids, as well as feeding our pet spiders those big black ants, sort of had competitions with the neighborhood, awesome fun), so I'll make one like yours. Once I start using all the fox tails I have and start tying the extremely popular dubbed head streamers I'll graduate to the brushes. Here's a thought, 💡those hooked teeth resemble the teeth of what creature we pursue? I wonder what we could do with the looped portion of velcro? Perhaps cut into narrow strips... hmm... Stay tuned for the answer. Hey great game last nite eh? I used to go to the Syracuse Blazers game, where Paul Newman made the movie. My lady follows the Sabers, she's from Buffalo, all the girls in the family played Broome ball. I haven't watched a game in years, let alone a Stanley Cup, but that was exciting, real nail biter. No fights!?! Take care and cheers! 👍😎🍺

+Joe Duca Thanks, Joe. I've been using this one where I need light grooming or picking. the Gun Cleaner isn't something I've tried, but I assume it would be great at picking out dubbing. I also use a toothbrush that I cut down that works quite nicely. Yes, I remember the days of catching spiders and ants to keep. In fact, I follow a channel on CZcams called Ants Canada that is quite well done. I'm pretty sure the Mrs. wouldn't appreciate me keeping a colony in the house.
The game was good, I was hoping Pittsburg would come out on top at the same time hoping the predators would come back and take it. My teams were out early. Boston, Edmonton, Toronto, Ottawa.... Cheers for Broome Ball. I didn't think you guys played that.

Piscator Flies I didn't know about broom ball at all until I met them 30 years ago. But they're from Buffalo, close to Canada, and are Sabers fans. Lol, I never took the spiders captive. We'd look for the "funnel" shaped nests in the bushes, feed them the big black ants that we called "poppy" ants because they pop! when you stepped on them. If the spider was quick and aggressive when it ran out and captured the 🐜 ant, we'd claim it and name it. I always called mine Hercules. If it disappeared, I'd find another and call it Hercules the 2nd, and so on. Maybe that's why I like to dangle a lure in front of a fish. Even now when a beautiful orb weaver spider makes it's web on the porch I toss different bugs in the web to watch it wrap it's prize in silk. It reminds me of Mcphail working his fingers when tying a fly! I only catch grief if I leave my game pelts hanging out to dry 😡 Well this "thread head" has to finish watching your pheasant soft hackle so keep your silk waxed and I'll catch you over there. 🙈🙉🙊lol!

Piscator Flies Darren, as far as I know that ultimate dubbing brush originally was a brush to scrub the fouling and gunk that accumulates on gun parts. Feather Crafter sells them in nylon like yours and in I think steel that they call the "ripper". What your referring to as the Gun Cleaner may be a bore brush, nylon bristles arranged in a spiral, like threads on a screw, and pushed through a gun barrel with a long rod. I believe they also come with bronze bristles. Sometimes my explanations can be confusing. Sorry about that. Then you have used the "ultimate" two headed brush?. I always like to hear what other tyers use and you give us valuable information. I wish I knew about you long ago, I don't know when CZcams started, but lol I wish I had it 40 years ago! Keep up the great work! Hope you got a chance to go fishing! ⏰☕😎🌅 It's morning, too early for beer! Cheers!
