Crows are freakin' smart. They know the dangers with roads. I've watched them drop walnuts onto the road so that cars run over them, breaking the shells, and giving them access to the nuts. It wasn't aimless either. They would push the nut around to the spot of the road that the tires hit. Incredible.

Crows are in the family of Corvids, a family that includes crows, jays, rooks, magpies and others. Several members of this family are among the most intelligent species of animals on the planet. Up there with whales, chimps and elephants. It's kind of astonishing the kind of stuff these animals are capable of and fortunately we have CZcams to show it to us. The most intelligent are, in terms of problem-solving skills, on par with 7 year old human children. I believe this crow truly understood the danger that the hedgehog faced and out of sheer goodwill, tried to save him. It clearly looked up and acknowledged the car. It knew exactly what was going on and it probably even understood that the person driving the car didn't want to kill the animal. They're known to observe human behavior and adapt to it (to the point where humans can build up a level of trust with them). Anyway, just fascinating animals...
A big danger with intelligent animals, especially pets, is to humanize them and think that smart = human. Who knows why the crow did this, might be something alike our concept of goodwill or an equivalent. Moght be something completly different. But one things for sure is that they are complex enough to have a complex reason for it
He looked like he was trying to get a bite, has most likely eaten roadkill before, hence why he was picking at the motionless hedgehog in the first place.

Even if it was pure coincidence, it did look like the crow was activly attempting to get the hedgehog to move. Even if there were... potentially less glorious intentions behind why it could have wanted it away from danger

Crows (all corvids) have a very special and underappreciated level of intelligence. They understand things only humans and maybe dolphins are supposed to grasp.

you are correct about nuts being cracked by passing cars. I would watch them from an outside porch of a brew pub ( hey, it's entertainment ) , they would land on the overhead wire directly over the road and drop nuts. Pick up the remains and leave if a car was coming or eat it there if not. Not to busy of a 2 lane road.
I have no doubt that crow knew what he was doing; crows are under appreciated and crazy smart.

The crow had enough death happening in his neighborhood so he set out to do something about it, rather than watch as more deaths occurred. Truly one of the smartest animals out there. That crow didn't care about species... he was just tired of innocents dying out there. Good for him.

1:23 I remember reading an article about this a couple years ago, it's a really sweet story. From what I remember the church couldn't afford to stay open, and was forced to sell. After the church was turned into the skatepark, nuns from the church went to visit them. They were incredibly happy that the space was turned into a communal spot for youth and supported the idea wholeheartedly.
