That’s why I love Kobe!!! There’s a lot you can learn from other sports
Yes, just ask Allen Iverson!!!
Kobe probably took that from Hakeem
Which he learnt from hakeem (who got soccer background)
Now he burning in Hell
@@bitcoinethereum9702 no cause Kobe lived in Italy for a long time as a kid
I Love soccer. Im from brazil. I love basketball too and kobe and lebron are my favorite players ever. The day i found out that kobe was a friend of Ronaldinho haha... that really made me happy. I truly miss kb. I loved to see him talk even after retiring
hello brazil
if you’re from brazil
and you’re calling it soccer that’s cap
Call it football like it is.
*Brazil Mentioned*
aqui é futebol mano KKKKKKK
kobe truly was something amazing
Was up curry
nothing much just working on my footwork and mid range
Kobe and steph w of my favourites
demar going into year 14, wow. i’m getting old too😂
Damn wth u right
Doesn’t surprise me that watching soccer can help your footwork. I feel like all the European players have the best footwork and a lot of that probably came from playing soccer when they were younger like most other countries do. Footwork is the most underrated skill in basketball by far
Totally! Americans always say that soccer is not a sport, but could probably have a hard time passing a ball 5 yards…
Hakeem has arguably the best footwork. He started off playing soccer
Facts about underrated skill.
@@marcelomendez419 a lot of Americans don’t say that at all.
@@marcelomendez419 a lot don’t say that though
I love that Kobe eyed out Demar. He is as talented in the mid range as any basketball player ever. Superstars love their midrange ballers.
Demar Derozan is a potential hall of famer espeically if he wins a championship one day
Kobe had an eye for elite competitors
I do food videos while high af on my CZcams channel.
My football (soccer) coach had us watch basketball screens to learn how to create space in tight situations
W coach
I think it's more usefull to watch indoor football.
Absolutely agree when I was stationed in Europe watching those kids play on soccer fields on back woods on a trailing use to go running on is something I’ll always miss it was like watching young professionals. The footwork, the competitiveness, the fire. They knew me as their American fan 😂. Got cool with their parents and all. The football culture in Europe is second to none.
Also one of them is 16 now and signed to 1. FC Kaiserslautern. I will be making a trip back 🎉
Thats what i told my brother when i broke down giannas block from the finials against the suns. You can see the soccer footwork that helps him with that block
Wtf 😂😂😂😂Shut up
lowkey the reason European/International players are dominating the game rn. Most of em have soccer backgrounds like Embiid, Giannis, Luka, Jokic etc
Yup... All-time scope, u got Hakeem... who's literally regarded as one who possessed one of the best footwork ever(if not the best)...man had kobe, bron & dwight went to him for some post moves/footwork trainings
Lol Soccer isn’t necessary tho, it’s just footwork……. Not to mention So many players have way better footwork.
@@whoishim2998 not necessary but it is huge for someone who has a background on it tbh.
No
I wouldn't say they're _dominating_ the game entirely. But European players have always brought a certain polish to their games that set them apart from American players. This current era is probably the most seamless blend of the two styles to date.
That's what made Hakeem so great
exactly...one of the best footwork ever, got kobe, bron & dwight come to him for some knowledge...i bet, kobe got the idea to ask demar to watch soccer to improve his footwork bcoz of his experience trained by hakeem, and fact that hakeem got soccer background
Kobe had himself soccer background, as he was living in Italy and played it there. In Europe we play "soccer" literally anywhere and anytime - on the court, in the parks, sometimes even when we don't have a ball (using f.e. empty beer cans etc.)
@@accountant3847 Kobe played alot of football himself when he was a kid, I mean he grew up in Italy and football is basically the only sport that exists there
@@accountant3847 no need to include dwight. His footwork and post game was still garbage ever after his workouts with hakeem
Demar seems like a genuinely cool guy
as cool as they come in LA hoods
He really loved loved DeMar😔
Excellent Sports journalism JJ and team!Prompting the realization in Demar was a thing of beauty! It only took a few words to get Demar to realize and open up about his participation in one of the most important aspects of bball. That is the cultural exchange (Kobe and the soccer metaphors) that you get Demar to talk about is brief but impactful, as an artifact of the history of bball culture and to the video content. It was a thing of beauty! Excellent work!
To me just from a style standpoint.. he is the player that reminds me of kobe the most
I've always said basketball & football are very identical. From ball movement, cutting to footwork they're all similar & transferable in both sports
Basketball and Soccer are alot more similar than any other team sports. Unless you're talking about American Football & Rugby, those are similar. Basketball & Soccer are "Same but Different".
@@09lowkey i'm british so I don't know what soccer is bro haha. They're pretty much the same, Basketball just more fast paced because of the court size
@@eddy562 Soccer is another for what you call football.
@@SanctumROTMG It was sarcasm lol I’m aware what soccer is
@@eddy562 We Americans have this brutal game (that only we and Canadians play) that we call "Football" (which makes no sense because there's only 2 aspects of the game that involve kicking the ball). But yeah, in America we don't make sense sometimes so we have another name for the most popular sport in the world, because that's the less sensible thing to do.
Kobe seemed to have a Da Vinci type brain. Connecting random things, to invent new ways to play the game...And not just ball, off the court as well with his entrepreneurship.
He's just not selfish to teach anyone bout his knowledge/experience (in this case, a footwork which he learned from hakeem who got soccer background)... unlike some players that only learnt for themselves
@@accountant3847 no he didn't. Kobe grew up in Italy.
@@BeeBee-pl9ly I'm talking bout when kobe went to texas to learn footwork & post moves from hakeem
@@accountant3847 okay
@@BeeBee-pl9ly You don't even know what you're replying to him about 😂
Kobe was the grand master, studied every detail so thoroughly. He’s my GOAT 🐐
I see Kobe , I click
Definitely sounds like Kobe 💯💯
Hakeem Olajuwon was playing soccer in Nigeria but because he was so tall . A scout pressured him to play center in basketball. The rest is history , basketball players with soccer skills have the best footwork
it's not just footwork. football or soccer also helps with your off the ball movement and your vision cuz you're always constantly moving to find space to receive the ball, attacking open space, defensive positioning, etc.
Kobe and hakeem were both fans of football (soccer) and it shows in their footwork
Kobe had a global mindset. Not just what’s not in front of your face, in your current surroundings. Pay attention to what you can learn from people, industries, etc all around the world
this is why cross training for athletes are so important to improve your game and protect your body
That’s a great questions by JJ there’s gonna be some haters saying he never did this or that, but let’s keep it real Demar is a bucket.. I would say he’s 1B in the league now interms of midrange game. He’s walking folks to the spot and handing them 50 pieces.. it’s masters work and he deserves his flowers.
It’s funny for me, I played basketball and soccer growing up.
I’m semi tall, not tall for a pro, but I’m 6’4. I was always tall for middle and highschool basketball.
I never went through a goofy stage, or uncoordinated stage like most big men. And all that is thanks to soccer.
So when Kobe (my idol growing up) started promoting soccer and made his low top shoes. I was all for it, and just made me respect everything about him even more.
6'4 is not 'semi tall' mate...
@@michaelh7125 always figured it was tall for normal folk, and average compared to pros…
That’s what u took out of everything I said tho?
I’m just as tall, but still in that goofy, uncoordinated stage haha. What kinda skills did you focus on to develop your coordination?
@@MeeladSediqi I was lucky enough to have coaches and trainers who put me through ladder drills and those half balance ball workouts…plus just playing soccer and doing all the soccer drills
@@michaelh7125 well for 6’0 and above it is so fellow tall guys know what he means
In futsal/indoor soccer, some of my coaches made us watch the NBA for screens/pick n roll situations. U can screen (without arms) in futsal
Demar is always a great interview
Demar “The Mid Range Magician” DeRozan
Steve Nash once said when he started playing basketball it felt like the same game as soccer but he felt like he was cheating because he could use his hands
Hakeem learned his footwork from soccer too
Facts different sports like soccer, volleyball, and handball help you’re hand/foot coordination or vertical leap
Someone like Hakeem benefitted a lot from it when he transitioned into basketball and it showed in his game
FR... Hakeem really went those side quests to collect specific skills to be the 🐐 defender
No wonder how he's top 10 career in frickin STEALS(only big man to do so)... that's super impressive for big man...to put it in perspective, hakeem got more steals than bron, ai, kobe, artest & kg😱
Bro football clearly help you a lot with footwork, balance and agility.
On god all my friends an I call him Demar DeMid-Range. Legend!
I played soccer all the way to high school, but when I played basketball, my defense was scary good, and I credit it to soccer. Because all the conditioning we had to be in and the foot work. Sometimes we ran all practice. Soccer people are always down playing it.
I miss kobe
I always tell people your footwork is so much better if you've played soccer.
Everybody was friends with Kobe now
Jj stay wit that sweet boy sitting style.
@0:21 this is such a good photo
Main reason why Hakeem and Embiid have good footwork for their size
He will never see this, but legit I studied his game all last year and have been working on implementing it into mine, and teaching the kids I coach how and why he plays the way he plays
W Coach
Demar like “ Ooooh U young young” 🤣
Soccer coaches were often using basketball style screening during a corner kicks to create space for the intended target, however referees were quick to clamp down on it as they were to obvious and were clear fouls in football.
Man the *Mamba* that dude had crazy footwork probably 2nd to none in the footwork category goes, also imo I think *DeMar* has just as nice of footwork as *Kobe* love watching *DeMar* midrange work it's a thing of beauty
@PKD Orion Fair assessment I can see that it's interesting you say that cause Giannis played futbol but he's footwork isn't as good as Kobe or Hakeem wonder why 🤔
He learnt for the right man (the dream)
Oh that’s really interesting
I’m ready to watch Demar put in a full 20 years!
💯💪🏽🤔
❤
Now that i think about it soccer and basketball are crazy similar probably the most similar sports
They're obviously not the most similar sports.
imagine kobe playing with demar my god two tough shot makers and kobe woulda brought out that defensive dog that i think demar lacks because he puts so much into offensive ends not saying he a liability tho !
“Soccer”
⚽️Football fans: *triggered*
Kobe would make the perfect over achieving teacher in an anime.
This dude probably the biggest Kobe fan there is
The body fakes in soccer is awesome if incorporated into other contact sports it will be difficult to guard.
There’s also the direct correlation between Basketball and Football too, for example:
MJ - Messi
If you go back and watch Kobe highlights. His fundamentals might have been the most attention to detail of all time. Went to the Seattle game where he tied the 3pt record with 12. He hit NO JOKE at least 195/200 turn around elbow fade aways with no dribble. Then he started shooting fade aways from the baseline and didn't miss for 70-80 shots. That's all just warm ups lmao
damn i can't believe you were at THAT game--musta been surreal!!
@@_sir_reginald unbelievable lol dude was MJ to me
NBA Coaches should include watching soccer as a part of their teams training regimen
Great example is Steve Nash.. Even when he runs, it's like he's dribbling a football lol
Clearly some NBA players should play football (the game where you play with your foot and a ball... ;) it improves balance a lot... Giannis played football before basketball and it definitely helped him a lot to control his body.
A lot of NBA players look goofy with their huge body, they should play football
Plus at amateur level there's no tactic so it's great to understand ball movement and learn to improvise.. & great for cardio of course
Dance is also a great option (no particular dance just random energic fun to play with your body and balance)
Defensive footwork is almost identical between the sports
It's called football JJ
I don't know how my Lakers did not sign this man, this still pisses me off so much!!!
The Eurostep is originally a football (soccer) move. ⚽️ Just look at Ronaldo’s step over.
The eurostep isn't a stepover. A European person simply stepping doesn't mean they're linked in any way.
@@kb5509 You clearly know nothing. Look at the foot movement. They are both a step in one direction, and then in the other direction to confuse the defender which direction you are going to go.
That’s why Steve Nash was a beast
We
Ain’t surprise It’s football the most popular and interesting sports itw
I wish they asked him what the "codes were" from kobe
When he mentioned speaking in codes it just made me think of his advice to Kanye.
For me growing up playing multiple sports it’s wierd hearing people bash other sports. Like…as an athlete how can you not love any sport that is competitive and requires certain levels of athleticism and critical thinking. I love basketball, football, soccer, golf, volleyball, baseball, tennis, rugby, track. It’s crazy to me to hear people bash other sports like they do; I love all sports and try to play all of them any chance I get.
Steph curry has goat level footwork. Underrated skill of his
Kobe designed his shoes based from Soccer boots cause it allows them to move & absorb impact
DeMar is the closest player to Kobe as far as similarity in their moves on the court. You could swap some of their highlights, especially on the post.
Kobe was different only Mike was better in my opinion. You can argue Kareem and Magic.
Please get KYRIE on here as a a guest
Its actually called football but i'll forgive Kobe
kobe is from italy. he knew basketball is trailing behind football in terms of footwork and fitness. he looked at those people running around for 90 mins, 1 mistake and you lost the game, in basketball one mistake might have cost you two points. if kobe wasnt such a difficult person to work with, people might have listened to him more and learned
i love jj’s podcast and i agree with a lot of his takes…but it’s crazy to hear he got in his feelings when he thought about his impact on the next generation of hoopers. sorry jj, you were not that guy.
I miss that man with all of my heart but his lessons are the age of the dinosaur. The nba wants 7 foot Steph Curry
I told my cousin the reason why AD slipped off his low top Kobe’s in game 2 of the finals is because he doesn’t have that soccer footwork !!
Wesley Snipes
Why is jj sitting like he gets bent over everyday
Football*
Too bad he didn’t teach him how to not underperform in the playoffs
its not soccer its football!!!!
Hi
Learn soccer to improve basketball... damn you only get that stuff from kobe
JJ fix your leg my g
Look at Olajuwon and Embiid footwork. it's all soccer
Most of soccer players know to play basketball very well, cause of footwork. Dont get me wrong i mean on amateur level
No they don't. Most football players have never played basketball, and cert aren't any good.
*Football
KOBE Footwork or LBJ who y’all got?
F ing soccer 😂😂😂
I feel the new generation of players are wannabe thugs with absurd hair and tattoos.
Even the dialect they speak is just so slang and the average person can’t understand anything they’re saying. When they talk they sound like they lack vocabulary and a proper thought process.
The league needs to clean up and restore the professionalism.
That’s why players like Doncic, joker, gianis are so needed. Besides being great players, they aren’t covered in tattoos and dont sounds like Morons behind the microphone.
Damm jj you retired to do this soft ball questions man come back to the sixers and win a chip
Footballl not soccer
not trying to be un-pc but that's the difference between white American players & European players. Europeans have much better footwork, passing & movement which they learn from playing soccer. White American players are generally more stiff & predictable. Except for Herro.
Clickbait title. Jj begging for likes after WEST
You dope JJ! Why the other guy though? Is he your sister's kid? Family love? All good. Seems forced though. Who is that nerd? Provides nothing. Cruel world.
Also they’re like almost all 7ft
