We do a disservice to artists when we try to compare them Both Freddie and Luther are icons, and unique in their own distinctive way, I have been enriched by the music of both of them, and I feel fortunate that I lived at a time when they were both at their peak.

@@carolynbratton7827I agree Luther was the whole package renewing himself constantly. Freddie is 70 years old now or something like that and he let go of himself. I saw a video of him in concert. Lost a lot of weight and he looked so untidy wearing "wrinkled khaki pants, a lousy shirt" and unshaved. You would have never seen Luther dressed like that in concert or even in private life. He was always sparkling and spotless.

What struck a note for me, is when he said about losing His Dear Mum, (yes we spell Mum this way in the UK lol) that you never get over losing your Mum, you just learn to live with it. Luther is the more consistent singer, he almost never hit a bad note live. His live versions usually always sounded like the album version, but Freddie Jackson was a more dynamic singer. Meaning he could sing in a vocal range that Luther couldn't, and do different runs. Luther did the same runs just about every song, Freddie could do a run and you would say "I never heard him do that one". Luther ranks higher as an overall singer, but on the same night he wouldn't want Freddie at his best on the same stage!

Freddie was/is a great singer. He and Luther had a slight rivalry for R&B crooner supremacy at the time. Both were topping the charts and having some crossover success. Freddie is far more nice when talking about Luther, than vice versa, so there was something there. I'll say this, they were both great! I personally enjoy Luther more, but I enjoyed Freddie's albums too. If you look down through music history, there were always these kind of dynamics between the top singers or groups. Ultimately, it's a sign of mutual respect.

Luther's music has lasted longer and is better known today. However, when Freddie hit the scene he had bigger hits than Luther -- first two singles hit pop Top 20 -- and WAY more number one R&B hits than Luther. Freddie also got more airplay than Luther in the mid-80s. Freddie's career waned just as Luther's popularity and acclaim ascended out of the R&B sub-genre in late 80s. It was a REAL commercial rivalry and Freddie took the first few rounds.

How could a man who made millions with his great singing ability allow himself to become so run down now, especially in his buccal hygiene? Not to bash the man but something just dosen't seem right now, but still, Freddie's def. one of the greats of all times, & his midas-achievements stand as a testament to his legacy in the music industry. All the best brother.*

It's like the older he got the more you can see his gay mannerisms. It's just obvious now. Still like and enjoy his music!

Both LV and FJ patterned their singing styles after women singers. Aside from that. LV all day. Freddie got some hits but Luther All day.

I love Freddie but he is not being honest. Healthy weight loss does not make one weak. If you look at him in his concert he was clearly weak. Thats not normal.
