    My grandfather gave me an 1899 before he passed and it means so much to me because he got me started preserving wealth with prescious metals at an early age. I scooped any pre 1907 Roosters up anytime I could just because the tone they take on is absolutely beautiful. I have a 1902 and even though they made alot that year it had turned almost a deep copper/red color by the time I got it and has continued to tone. Love the early security measures on the rim also. Great vid

    Hey, B-Yard B !!! I watch your newer videos. I've been wanting a Rooster for a long time, just never hot one until today. I got a 1910, it is even better than I expected, the thing is beautiful, and a nice size!

    A bit of information : This coin is the last of a long series of coins which we call "Napoleon" in France even if there's no Napoleon portrait on it. All Napoleon's coins have the same size, weight and are all 90% gold. This is the exact same coin as the swiss Vreneli (20 FR Helvetia), the 20 Fr Tunisia, the italian 10 Lira etc. All these coins are part of the Latin Union and, apart from the design, are the same coins which caracteristics have been set by Napoleon Bonaparte. This coin is also called "Marianne-Coq" in France. Coq means rooster and Marianne is the face of the french republic and is portrayed on the coin. All coins dated between 1907 and 1914 are restrikes from 1951 to 1960 and there's almost 37 millions of them. They are called Pinay restrikes. Pinay restrikes are generaly in very good conditions as they have not circulate. They are the most common gold coins in France

      @Saint-Dhomas Taquin, thank you for this information. Very interesting and helpful. I'm encouraging a family member who lives in France to put some savings in gold and these coins would be perfect. Do you know if France charges a VAT (sales tax) on bullion? If so, what percentage? Thanks again. Bonsoir!

      Not totally true, the French 20 Francs/Napoleon series (5 different designs) includes 2 coins with the portrait of Napoleon III, one showing him bare headed, the other one with him wearing a laurel crown. The 5 different designs are called, in French: Napoléon tête nue, Napoléon tête laurée, Cérès, Génie and Marianne-Coq.

    • @laurencerivet7521
      @laurencerivet7521 Před 3 lety

      DVPress There's no VAT or any other taxes upon purchase, but you are charged a 11.5% tax on the amount of your sale when you're selling them in France.

    I got one as a gift, so i tried to check out the story of the coin, I heared on another coin-channel that you can tell Original from Restrike by checking the date and reading the words on the thin side of the coin:
    All coins dated 1907 till 1914 are a Restrike (maybe 1950s). Coins that date 1899 - 1906 might be an Original, but the words on the thin side of the coin must say "Dieu Protege la France"; if instead it says "Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité" then it is a Restrike.

  • @therealhawkeyeii7888
    @therealhawkeyeii7888 Před 2 lety

    The way you can tell is if it says Liberté, Egalité, Fraternité, on the rim. If so, then it's a restrike.

  • @gerardov.9716

    I completely agree with you when you said '...it's a fantastic coin'. There's so much detail and design it almost seems like a numismatic gem but the bullion numbers don't lie. Hence the low premiums. I've had this coin under my radar for quite some time. Very cool BYB thank you for sharing. I'm voting for the Kraken next week. Have a nice weekend.

    Can I first correct you on a few points concerning the rooster 20fr gold coin. 1 it is not the goddess ceres, but is the french republic mariana. 2 The restrikes were officially made by the paris mint from 1950 to 1960, and are strong reddish colour from the original pieces which were yellow in colour struck from 1899 to 1907. The original pieces have written on the edge Dieu protage la France. The restrikes from 1907 to 1914 havej written on the edge
    Liberté égalité fraternité. Hope I have been of help.

    Hi everyone, I am wet behind the ears when it comes to stacking and I sincerely appreciate Backyard Bullion for his video to help UK stackers. Have any one got an opinion on gilded silvers and coloured silver, I have just order gilded silver panda and coloured Brexit Britainia silver coins. Bad investment or good move? Thanks BB for your extremely informative videos and thanks to all contributors.

    • @everettcarlson6600
      @everettcarlson6600 Před 7 lety +1

      CK ROY As much as I am tempted to by colored coins, they come with an extremely high premium over spot, so your best investment right now is probably bullion itself. But, colored coins generally come with increased rarity and therefore will be worth 💵 in the future.

    • @143DREWID
      @143DREWID Před 7 lety +1

      Look at value of previous altered coins... demand, and market for sale thereof.
      The base of ones stack ideally, should be the most recognizable to the market.
      Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and bling bling reduces eyes... buying.

    • @BackyardBullion
      @BackyardBullion  Před 7 lety +1

      Hi CK ROY, I cant add more than what Rhett has said really. Its good to diversify by I would say unless you know a lot more than other people its a risky game. I recon about 9 in 10 coins will not hold their premiums. The 1 in 10 though will often do very well. Its just working out which 1 it is going to be! If we all knew then we would all be millionaires! Thanks also for the kind comments on my videos and series!
