This is the most interesting looking movie of this series, but I was also wishing that the cast was built more like the other two. I'm curious to see if I enjoy it or not
I actually enjoyed Death On The Nile and hope this brings a nice horror vibe to The Series.
'Murder on the Orient Express' was shot beautifully, but I actually was a bit turned off by the cast. There were so many big name actors that it pulled me out of the movie just like the way green screen usage pulled me out of 'Death on the Nile'. That movie had so many parts that didn't even NEED it, but it was used anyway for some reason. This one looks like they're trying to not repeat their mistakes and I think this could wind up being the best of them all.
With MOTOE I think they wanted it to really feel like a BIG prestige production. In that sense they were following the lead of the 1974 film, which was completely stacked with well-known performers.
i never even realized this was some sort of series 😄
@@vinsanity40k They're based on a series of books by Agatha Christie that all feature the character of private detective Hercule Poirot. There are a lot of novels in the series and then several short stories on top of them.
Sounds like the perfect movie for me to watch in time for Halloween 🎃
I LOVED Belfast! I still returns to mind even to this day. It's definitely a slow burn, but it hits home. I'm a pretty heavy Kenneth Branaugh fan though.
After Knives Out, I was waffling on which series I liked better. But after Glass Onion, there is no question. Branaugh's Poirot is comfortably in the lead. Very excited for Haunting in Venice. I think I've managed to skip every trailer for it.
Dead Again is a fantastic movie. Glad Grace mentioned it.
Saw it in a nearly empty theater during its first run. Loved it. Kenneth and Emma didn't lack in the chemistry department. Also, you've gotta love his "American" accent.
I know these movies aren’t everyone’s cup of tea & deservedly so….but I have such a soft spot for them, even Death on the Nile (like sometimes in a so bad it’s good way & just being entertaining in general). I’m looking forward to this one, but probably going to still wait for streaming. I’m not THAT big a fan of them lol 😁
I thought Murder on the Orient Express was pretty good overall but Nile was weak and Branagh's changes to Agatha's story were not improvements. That is a shame because the story is great and could've been done so much better and HAS been done better by previous filmmakers.
So he's 1-1 with me. Hopefully this one will be good, but I can already tell that it makes MASSIVE changes to the book it's based on, which is probably why they didn't even retain the name. (The book is called Hallowe'en Party.)
It's not bad
I wonder how scary it is? I know it’s not primarily a horror movie, but I’m coming at this movie as someone who like Agatha Christie, mysteries, and hercule poiriot. I also plan on seeing this with my parents, so I’d love to know how overbearing the horror aspect of it is (like jump scares and things of the like). Btw I’m completely fine with atmosphere of horror and thriller in it, I just want to know about any direct horror moments like scary stuff, not just spooky
just watched it, was fairly scary for me with the jumpscares. the lead-up to them is predictable so i could hide behind my hand ahead of time but definitely still made me scared
@@jay-fr4dsI liked the movie for its athmosphere but the birds in this movie made too many jumpscares or rather jumpSOUNDs. The movie shines in athmosphere.
Christie wrote so many books and they often just keep remaking the same few. So I’m glad this is something different finally
Yes absolutely
Waiting Murder of Roger Ackroyd
Yep. I didn’t know how this one ended and loved getting caught up in the mystery. 😁
So proud you mentioned Dead Again:)
Thank you for giving props to "Dead Again"! Perfect casting, especially Robin Williams' small supporting part!
Oh boy Grace, am I super excited to see this movie!!! 😊🕵🏻
Thanks for the non spoiler review 😁
Haunting in Venice is based on Halloween Party which is suspose to take place in a small English village.
It's quite obvious Branagh has made a lot of changes to the story which is probably why they went with a totally different title. I haven't read the book but I've seen the Poirot ITV adaptation and it's clear that this is something completely different.
Thanks for the review Grace ❤
Really glad to see them using more practical sets etc. as it got a little out of hand in Death On The Nile with all the green screen. That movie wasn't even a 'Covid Movie' as it was filmed in late 2019, it just had enough noticeable greenscreen that you would assume as such.
It was a real shame about Nile. Not only was the use of green screen instead of shooting on location criminal, but Branagh's changes to the story were totally unwarranted.
Did they market this movie??? I only heard about it from CZcams critics and had no idea it was connected to the other Brannagh movies.
I've seen the trailer a few times, including in front of Indiana Jones. But you would never make the connection to MOTOE and Death on the Nile if you didn't recognize the character.
I just came back from a screening, all I'll say is that if you liked the others you'll most likely enjoy A Haunting in Venice, I actually like it better than Death on the Nile. I want more of these!!!
I’m good with Tina Fey going dramatic route. Let’s see where goes
❤😊
Ahhhh! I immediately told my friend who I saw Haunting in Venice with about Dead Again after the movie, am so glad you called it out!
Emma and Kenneth in Dead Again! Wow …currently searching to order in time for Halloween 🎃! Total Hitchcock / 40s noir classic !
I can't wait for Haunting in Venice it looks so good. I hope people go see it.
Dead Again is one of the nineties best thrillers.
Grace, you mentioned in a livestream that there was something special that enticed you to the premiere. What did that end up being?
this review convinced me! thanks a lot grace
Just saw A Haunting in Venice tonight and loved it! Thought the movie had the right amount of scary supernatural element without distracting from the whodunnit aspect of the story. Really hope it does well in theaters, so we get more Hercule Poirot movies in the future!
Dead Again is one of my favorite movies of all time, I’ve watched it plenty of times ❤
❤😊
I don’t understand the complaints of bad acting, everyone was great!
How much supernatural elements are there?
Franchise feels pretty grounded so far. Does it end like a prank or hallucination gas twist
A Haunting In Venice is my birthday movie this year!
Yes need to satisfied my period piece murder mystery whodunit after finishing Umineko. Curious have Grace heard or read about any of the When They Cry series?
Wait I had no idea this was coming out at all.
Glad that the series wasn't killed off just because of Armie Hammer's scandal.
I love Agatha Christie and the Orient Express movie but I hate horror.
As an Italian who's been to Venice I might enjoy checking it out though!
Dead again is amazing. One of my faves for good rainy day…
Dead again is a lock tickets booked for an IMAX this weekend
Going to a screening tomorrow early in ny
I love Dead Again. I think this is the first time I've ever heard it recommended.
Dead Again is what made me a Kenneth Branagh fan!
Dead Again was an amazing film and still holds up! Great thriller!
Wait I thought this was just some new horror film. Had no idea it was a Kenneth-Mystery series movie. Honestly makes me want to watch it less and I was excited 😭
Yeah, it's the third in a series, based on the works of Agatha Christie.
Kenneth Branagh is like ONLY playing Poirot lately lol, not sure how you missed that mustache and character in the trailers lol
Funny, this actually makes me want to see this one MORE! I had no plans to see this at all
Knowing this makes me want to see it more 🤣
Been Looking forward to this movie
Why didn’t they use the neon font on this poster? As it is it looks like a DVD cover unfortunately.
Hollywood NEEDS to step up their poster game!
Excellent review Grace you crushed it again thank you
❤😊
Can't wait for this movie. Def watching it on cinema. Reminds me of The Others with Nicole Kidman. She should have been on this!
I was actually in venice in january and stumbled upon the filming of one of the scenes for this movie, from what i could tell it was an outside fighting sequence with lots of i think constables maybe? I didnt get a good look at it but they had all the cameras on a dainty little bridge and high security at each side to stop us from crossing while filming. Before i realised what it was i saw a whole bunch of extras in old timey constable outfits and women in old timey outfits going down one of the narrow streets and thought is that how people dress here??
Unless they cut the scene. Not this film.
I saw Dead Again, and found it to be colorfully subtle.
We know how much you hate horror movies Grace so we appreciate you taking one for the team lately so we can get your reviews of these films. 😊
I was really rooting for Tina Fey.
In the shot chosen for the "whodunit" section of the review, notice the NBC Peacock logo over Tina Fey's character, like a corporate halo.
If you can dig out the UK Poirot shows, starring David Suchet, do. They’re the top tier Poirot adaptations (sorry Ustinov…)
I love Agatha Christie's so I'm very happy to see another book of hers adapted in a more modern fashion.
I wish Bragah would Film the pale horse next. I know it is not a periott Story but it is such a good book😊
i will definitely be seeing this
That last shot in this movie was priceless.
❤😊
DEAD AGAIN, definitely an underrated gem! 🍿🍿🍿
Absolutely! Brannagh's LA private investigator Mike Church deserves more adventures! Hey, now there's an idea!
Grace, you’re the coolest. ❤❤
When the Producer sparkles and not the celebrity actors; you know that is a great movie with real thespians. Brannon has created a refreshing Poirot genre. I can't wait to see A Haunting in Venice
I’ve read the book that this film is based on and it’s one of my favs !!
"Wedding cake" design? I remember when Grace used to call it "barfing fantasy" LOL.
It sound lick something I would enjoy. I love a good who-don-it movie. But still I'll wait to see it on digital 😊
I’ve loved Dead Again since it first came out. Aaahhhh scissors!
Murder on the Orient Express (1974) & Death on the Nile (1978) are vastly superior to Kenneth Branagh's versions.
A Haunting in Venice sounds refreshingly different though.
I love Tower of Terror and Haunted Mansion 🎃
My mom is a huge Agatha Christie fan, been trying to convince her to watch the movie
Will come back to watch this after I see the film
I ENJOYED ALL 3 MOVIES!
Loved it, and I agree this was the best one in this series so far.
Time to watch the three back to back
I HAVE SEEN DEAD AGAIN!!! It terrified me when I was younger
We day this at a screening & I agree with the actors that didn’t work with the movie. I ❤ Tina, but she just doesn’t fit or have the chemistry. But this is by far the best of the trilogy & we loved it. It’s also a thriller/horror movie, but not one that people who are scared easily will have to go to bed with the lights on lol. But I would say to horror fans, see in the theater, but for people who want something for Halloween, wait for POV👍🏻.
Based on what I know of Grace's taste, I feel like she probably read the Nancy Drew X Hardy Boys book series haha
"Dead Again" is awesome!
Best of the three is a low bar
I really enjoyed it! I will agree I did get a little...comfortable lol at points but even then I was like I don't wanna go to sleep because I'm enjoying it! I loooved the female actress performances in this!
If you’ve followed Branagh’s career since the start, you’ll find he’s always tried to add a sense of campy fun to his glorious visuals. Look at his cameo in Harry Potter, or go back to his rousing directorial debut ‘Henry V’. I urge all movie fans to check out his earlier films - the OTT Hitchcock style film noir ‘Dead Again’ (an awful American accent from Branagh, a delightful quirky performance from Derek Jacobi), ‘Mary Shelly’s Frankenstein’ (sumptuous to look at and filled with flamboyant performances - a fun mess), even his pre-‘Hamlet’ film ‘In the Bleak Midwinter’ (out of work actors try to stage a production of Hamlet, at Christmas!) and his style is there is spades…
Death on the Nile was filmed in 2019
Cool!
Glass Onion more cinematic?
I slept on the first two times I saw Murder at the Orient Express
Just saw the movie. Ending didnt sell it to me. There were issues and unanswered questions.
Yes more Grace content!❤
Will definitely see Dead Again
DEATH ON THE NILE WASN'T SO BAD! I ENJOYED IT!
I love murder mysteries and Agatha Christy but not horror movies. Is this scary?
I was just watching a trailer for this and thought to check if Grace's review is up. Hooray!! 🎉🎉🎉
Please review Bottoms! :)
I ENJOYED DEATH ON THE NILE!
I loved this film. Best of the three Branagh Poiroit films.
Would agree that the weakest part is the cast. I feel that they saved some budget there.
The mystery and the supernatural elements were great. The cinematography was great.
It’s also the first Branagh film I didn’t know the story to and loved playing along in figuring it out.
I saw an advance screening of this movie and I enjoyed it the most out of all 3! I disagree that you may fall asleep because of the story, but at times the scenes are quite dim. The storywriting is a strong mix of the supernatural vs whodunnit detective work, the cast I think is fine, and I think Tina Fey is a great scene partner for Ken Branaugh. The cinematography I think is very atmospheric and jump scares aplenty. There are definitely practical sets and on-location shooting. I love the audio quality because you can hear the actors so clearly - no one mumbles (except the Peirot accent). I agree that Jamie Dornan is not the strongest cast here but I do enjoy the mini Belfast reunion. I had a lot of fun and this movie is a HUGE improvement over Nile.
I absolutely loved this film. Was engrossed through out. What put me off though is the fella a few rows back who was snoring 😑
I fell asleep twice
@@CJKhaos😂
@@DipTuckDiveWe're you the person snoring a couple rows up for the other person who commenting? I'm sure you weren't but...What would be the odds??? 😂😂😂
I really loved this one. I thought Tina Fey was good. She wasn't as outstanding as some of the others but she has a certain presence that just makes you believe she is self-assured and important in character.
Dead Again '90 (I believe) is a cult classic. Perfect for a watch-along.
Haunting in venice is going to be mixed
Dead Again was so good!
I enjoyed this a lot. Much better then Death on the Nile, which I found depressing from the first note to the last.
It made me jump a couple of times.
These movies are criminally underrated!
❤😊
I did fall asleep during Orient Express but I Loveeeed Death on the Nile so much. It was my top five movies of 2022 yesss excited to see this one.
I thought it was great! I would like to see the r rated version, someone other than Tina F, and maybe a little more scary moments... I think the seagul in the intro was the most horror moment for me.... but genuinely enjoyed and actually loved it. This is the first movie I've seen in a while that I would go back to the theater to watch again.
I hate Belfast too😂
You actually turned me into this, and now I'm even more interested in seeing it! I've got space on my AMC movie pass mind as well! I just went to see The Incredibles in theaters and I was cracking up at everything. I absolutely love that movie. After I came home and watched the sequel! Haha
It might just be me but I’ve always enjoyed his poirot so I’m glad to see him coming back
THE MOVIE WAS BASED ON HALLOWEEN PARTY!
A HAUNTING IN VENICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dead Again, yes, quite fun -- two movies in one!
