In the actual event, the final tournament, only the best in the world meet. It is a special honor and responsibility to be the host of the final tournament. Welcome Overture musically expresses hospitality and warmth towards all people, regardless of colour or race; an attitude that is symbolic of the World Cup. Schwarz komponierte die Welcome Overture zum Empfang der saudiarabischen Mannschaft in Bad Nauheim zur Fußballweltmeisterschaft 2006. Sein Stück beginnt mit fanfareartigen Trompeten zur Eröffnung des Turniers, dann laufen im Cantabile alle Mannschaften ein. Ein Spieler träumt im langsamen Andante vom Sieg, bevor das Endspiel und der Sieger monumental gefeiert werden. Die wichtigste Botschaft des Werkes ist jedoch der friedliche Wettstreit der Nationen und die Gastfreundschaft während des Turniers.
