We put up Martin gourds last year in hopes of them taking care of the bugs and I told my husband we are officially old people!

Monica could do a bird bath with a small solar fountain in the center of the raised bed area. It will bring even more birds to the party!

Solar fountains never work for very long. I've tried so many and they crap out before the end of the season! Not impressed.

Pssst…you need to give Monica one of those sturdy clack tomato supports for her birthday or favourite sister day! I am eyeing them too over the wire ones which don’t quite get the jobs done when the plants are laden with tomatoes

Garden looks so beautiful but the most beautiful thing is to see how happy Monica is! She certainly is a proud gardener and should be looks great❣️
I really love Monica's perspective of, "just try it". There's a lot of plants that behave wildly differently in my yard than expected, which is probably because of microclimate and person care/neglect. The only hard part is "just trying it" for something's can be quite expensive. If they end up working then it's totally worth the risk. But when they don't, it can really be a big hit. That being said, it's good to know what your own risk tolerance is and pushing it a little from time to time
Not to mention the heartbreak of watching something die. I always feel for my plants. Silly yes but they are living things so when they go it's sad.

That's why I've been buying up perennial seeds like crazy. I have an abundance of plants and they where dirt cheap. A LOT of them don't make it because I have 2 very large dogs and kids with some rambunctious friends who I guess don't have gardens in their own yards. They're typically pretty easy to get going in my little amazon "greenhouse". Just takes patience

I love seeing how the enjoyment of gardening has touched everyone of you in one way or another. What a wonderful gift your parents have passed on to you and possibly their parents passed down also?

I love seeing all of the American flags on the houses! That stone walkway and wall are just amazing. Pedro's crew did such a great job. It truly added space and dimension to Monica's yard.

Oh Monica…you made me laugh…and cry just a little tear as your mom might not appreciate “lazy Susan” but my brother would fully embrace a lazy Larry! I lost our brother, Larry at the very young age of 62 but he had such a wonderful sense of humor and would celebrate anything named after his name. Laura, this revisit of Monica’s backyard was so fun and as gardeners it’s always nice to see progress from hard work. Birds are God’s gift to us for our viewing pleasure after a long day away from our home or even in the a.m. as we leisurely start our busy days. Thanks for the field trip Laura!!!:):):)

We love your follow-up videos. We were impressed how much larger Monica’s back yard looked. Reran the video to try and figure out why the perception. What a great yard to spend time in and just sit and watch things grow.
So pretty😍! I foresee a pergola on that back patio with outdoor strings of lights illuminating the area and the sound of water from a future fountain being enjoyed at night while Monica and Nick dine outdoors and sip on some drinks🍹.

Oh, how nice. The older I've gotten we scaled by 6,000 sq ft house to 2600 & a 2-acre lot to a postage stamp. You make me want to do more in my back yard. I have both sides & of course the front but this looks so lovely. Your sister & you are just spittin' images of your precious Mama. I love the way y'all talk with each other familiar but still formal - just the difference in our parts of the country southern gabby tell everything to each other to your more formal relationships. It's so nice to see how the other parts of the USA live with each other. Keep the love & closeness forever - you both deserve it. Thanks for sharing.

One of my favorite videos so far this year. Monica plants like I do and it is great to know this way of planting with many varieties is magical. I hope she gets a water feature. It would fit perfect in the landscape.

Everything looks great at Monica's. I really like how y'all dug out the slope to make a terrace. A lot of people wouldn't of thought to do that. Monica, it's ok. Bird watching isn't nerdy. It's therapeutic. Also, with Nick getting into gardening with Monica, I think they're going to be needing more yard. ❤

What a gorgeous transformation! I love every single plant that Monica has used in the garden beds. Lovely variety of colors and textures, foliage and blooms. Really created a backyard paradise there. Love the different "garden rooms", and especially the bench and the patio to take it all in.

Monica's garden looks very nice. Have you'll considered a fountain using a solar insert rather than running an electric cord. Her raised bed garden located in full sun may really work well.

I think it’s really nice the way you are so excited for your sisters yard. It just shows no matter the size of yard you can make it a dream destination. Since my yard is smaller than hers I appreciate this. I want a Japanese maple and can only put it in a container, will it do ok in 6a in a container? Enjoy the day.
Container plants need to be two zones hardier than the zone it's planted in to survive winter. So your maple would have to be hardy in zone 4- probably hard to find. Maybe you could bring in into a garage or basement over the winter.
