  • 'Pineapple Rag' by Scott Joplin. Arranged for guitar by Richard Smith.

"The third Joplin rag arranged by Richard Smith, 'Pineapple Rag' is one of my all time favourites. I had the pleasure of playing this one with Richard and it was interesting having him walk me through it and point out parts of his own arrangement that he thought didn't work and other passages that he liked. This arrangement also showed me the cool trick of tuning to drop D for the modulated sections, a technique I have since used in my own Joplin arrangements.
Thought to be named after Joplin's favourite fruit, 'Pineapple Rag' is often regarded as one of his finest works and upon its release gave Joplin a good income for the proceeding year."

Good morning Merlin, first of all congratulations on the beautiful execution of the piece, I take this opportunity to ask you some news about your Taylor with nylon strings, does it sound good even not amplified? Would you recommend it? Thanks a lot

@@antoniolorenzo8344 hi Antonio, thank you very much for watching and reaching out. The sound you hear in the video is actually of the Taylor’s unplugged sound. I have done some minor audio editing but nothing major. It has a very nice unpluggged sound, very rich and warm. The amplified sound is also good. It can be a bit ‘quacky’ however for semi-professional and even professional playing I find it adequate. The only issue I am having with the guitar is the body is quite large and can sometimes be uncomfortable for extended playing periods. Other than that I would recommend the instrument and find it to be a very decent mid-range ‘concert nylon’ and a good transitional guitar for recent steel string players to get started on nylon string.
