The comments from judges show you everything you need to know about modern music. If you're not 'pop' star worthy then you won't make it in the popular music jungle. This guy has one of the greatest voices of all time and you hear them talk about pop that, pop this. Can't they just accept that there are other genres of music outside of pop? People listen to rock music too and Kurt has one of the greatest country rock voices of all time. If he went to America's Got Talent and sung a country tune he would get the golden buzzer in a heartbeat. I know he is old and has accomplished everything but it saddens me that when Kurt started they expected of him to be a generic pop star with such an amazing voice.
I remember seeing this audition on live television. My first thought was that this guy is going to win everything. He was 1000 times better than all of the others and to this day noone has bettered him. It would have been an absolute disgrace if they didnt send him through to the next round
I think the judges were more worried about "marketing him" rather than his voice - and that is what is wrong with the whole music industry. Kurt has an amazing voice and THAT should be the selling point.

I loved how she corrected his English. Funny thing is, we do tend to have soft Ts. We pronounce them more like Ds mostly. So although she was grammatically correct, he is dialectically correct. Edit: This is what makes Europeans stand out when practicing their american accents, they put those clipped Ts in words and it sounds weird to a native speaker’s ear because we don’t do that.
Well mostly it's Americans that have the soft T's. If you listen to well-trained British actors, their T's are well pronounced and not soft. But we Americans are lazy like that lol.

The judge (chief), Jan Fredrik Karlsen, is his manager and good friend now! The woman judge is head of Sony/BMG (his record company) in Norway. The guy who said about him not selling any albums, produced his 1st solo album!!! Kurt has said in interviews, that he went to the audition as a "bit of a laugh" as one of his band mates had filled in the application form for him. He didn't really know what it was about and also was slightly tired and hungover from a gig the previous evening!!!!
He got through, under doubt, the one judge said..... AND HE WON THE WHOLE SHIT! Even WORLD IDOL! I'm so freaking proud of him, That is for sure. What a vice on that dude!
I'm a native English speaker and I don't speak any other languages. I never noticed a "t" not being pronounced correctly at the end of words. If you don't speak the language fluently then don't criticize others about it, sheesh.
The judging panel sucks completely. "We wont send you through next round BECAUSE you don't have the look material..." What kind of bullshit is that? I thought this competition was all about their voices.. He certainly has one of the very few best voices out there, in my opinion.
Dominic Toretto great voice and he has been successful in his career since this show....however 'pop' stars need to have a wee bit of talent in singing and dancing.....and look good. i.e. brittany spears back in the day.....the record companies want to make a quick fortune.....someone who is hot and can sing a bit = $$$$

Damn, that seems harsh to judge the guy on dropping a little bit of the T sound from a foreign language. He speaks better English than half of Americans do.
The video was cut short. Just a few seconds after he's left the room, the woman mumbles something like "He's never going to sell ONE album." If I'm not mistaking, he went on to release an album which became the second most selling album in Norway in 2003, only beaten by REM - Best Of.
This mans part of singing "halleluja" is AMAZING I wish I could find just him singing it. He could be an amazing country singer in America, he sounds like and old great of country music that I can't put my finger on but I think slower more country style would fit him best. Very controlled and captivating voice. I can't believe they barely let him continue.

How the hell do these people from Norway, Sweden and Finland speak such great English. They amaze me. I have studied Spanish for 20 25 years and I can't get rid of this American accent when I speak Spanish. Yet these Scandanavians speak almost without any detectable accent..Amazing!!!

Although it was recorded ready for release on the Fenrik Lane album "Lane of Life", but they were not allowed to release it. Believe it was something to do with record company copyright and contractual rights, as the band remain unsigned!!!!

I just find it funny that when he sings in he uses a Southern accent more than anything, rather than the standard "American" accent. It's kinda cool tbh.

However I heard that his record company were not willing to leave it on their cd as at that time the group did not have a recording contract. The group Fenrik Lane have since re-recorded it and it is on their last album, without Kurt. Kurt has sung this during his concert tour in 2010.

I thought the same thing. Over emphasizing the 't' would make it wound labored instead of natural. His english sounds perfect to me.
