So the care that you receive from your health care professional during your pregnancy is what we call as antenatal care. So when you're diagnosed to be pregnant or you do a upd at home you visit your healthcare professional and the journey starts from there. As to your visits the visits are usually scheduled 4 weekly till 28 weeks that is the end of second trimester and then two weekly till 36 weeks and then weekly till you deliver . The aim of antenal care is to ensure that you and your baby are safe and we have a healthy mother and a healthy child at delivery to diagnose any potential complications that may develop in pregancy in time and to manage them so at each visit with your gynecologist your babies growth is checked, your BP is checked you advise some blood test or ultrasound depending on which stage of pregnancy you are. The aim is to find out that you are going well ahead in your pregnancy and there are no complications if any red flag is picked up it is discuss with you and manage appropriately . What all can we pick up we can pick up gestational diabetes we can pick up you developing High BP, anemia, thyroid problems or baby's growth problems or baby not getting adequate blood. Depending on how you are progressing the further advises are given. Usually oral hematinics, iron, calcium, folic acid are given. You will receive immunization in pregnancy then your birthing plan is made, the place you're going to deliver what happens when you enter the labor room what should you anticipate and the exercises the diet everything is discussed with you which helps you sail through this journey smoothly and easily making it joyful for you.
