  • In this video we will be taking a closer look at the original 1986 release, and comparing it to the 2004 remastered. For this 'VS' I wanted to simply have both play and allow the viewer to decide on a conclusion for each one of these songs. I talk a little bit about my opinion for each song, but these all come down to personal preference. Tune in next week for the conclusion of this series.

    I personally prefer the original version, although it sounds less bassier i prefer that classic drum sound. Something that I would like to mention is that the 2004 remastered version brings the tracks mixed by Randy Burns , which sounds so interesting, so vintage, and in this tracks Poland solos have a chorus effect or something (i´m not sure) that make the sound perfect for me. Great video i like that kind of reviews and stuff. (Although I do not speak English I understood most of what you said lol).
    And HUGE THANKS for that 21:35, little by little I will upload all the solos of the album because poland deserves a lot more recognition here on youtube and it would be nice to see more guys playing his things on the guitar.

    In my opinion, the 2011 remaster is the best, because all it does is give the drums a little boost and the bass more, you know, bass compared to the original. Also they don’t take away parts of the vocals, like they did in the 2004 remaster. Amazing video though!

      I like the remaster makes things roomy, bassy, and audible (like Gar's cymbals in the beginning of I ain't superstitious). But the crunch of the original is asmr to me, also the vocals of the remaster sound off (words ending in a s make it sound like Dave almost has a lisp).

    Of my 2 favorite Megadeth songs, in Good Mourning/Black Friday I say try original because the acoustic lines aren't being hidden behind the Poland lines. In Last Words the Remastered has the baseline enhanced which give the song a different feel as apposed to barely hearing it

    It’s a tricky one , depends on the song I guess. I like the originals because of the better bass sound, almost like a third guitar, and I like the remastered because of the overall “thicker” sound which I just naturally like. But yeah, I’d say depends on the song

  • @SDMFdeeger
    @SDMFdeeger Před 4 lety +1

    I think that aside from the title track being butchered badly (the snare drum is super quiet and doesn't have that huge backbeat which is a key part of the damn song. Snare is at a proper volume on the rest of the album but they butchered the most popular song...pretty wierd), the remix sounds great. But I prefer the original mix of every single Megadeth album. The 2018 remix of KIMB is better than the original mix...but I still stick to the original because it's the only one where you can hear the original These Boots. I wish Dave would have given the original version of These Boots a proper remix and "leak" it onto the internet, even if he's forced to put some butchered version on the real releases, it'd be cool if the fans could get a 'matching' mix somehow lol

    2004 remaster always. It's a way more full sound and you can actually feel the bass like you're supposed to. Cymbals sound way better too.

  • @thekingofstillwater5890

    Without going into too much detail I will say I prefer the 2004 remaster over the original for the more clearer sound and louder bass. Some parts of the original just sound muddy and I don't like the loud, obnoxious at times, snare drumming. While the drums do sometimes unfourtunatly take a dip in quality on the remaster, you get louder bass on most tracks in exchange which is a plus for me cause I love good loud bass riffs like on the title track; It's different yeah but its still pretty good. Don't get me wrong however, not all remixes & remasters are equal. The next two albums show how not to remaster, as well as how to know when you've gone too far like on Cryptic Writings.

  • @SpazticThoughts
    @SpazticThoughts Před 3 lety

    Depends on the song. I usually like the originals more because of the guitar mixing and the clearer bass, but sometimes it sounds like the original bass/drums obfuscate the other instruments. The remastered guitars tend to sound muffled/quiet compared to the original recordings. Maybe it was them trying to lower the treble on those tracks. Oh, and that remastered bass intro on Peace Sells sounds awful!

    The 2004 version of Peace Sells was the least egregious out of all of them. Rust in Peace, Youthanasia, and Cryptic Writings were all butchered with that awful snare sample and Mustaine dicking around with the source material. Those are more like completely unnecessary re-imaginings of the original albums than just remixes. For something like KIMB it makes more sense because the original production quality was subpar, but by Rust in Peace and after they were a major label band recording albums in high end professional studios working with the likes of Mike Clink and Max Norman.
