  • Zastava has gone from being merely imported to the US by third parties to importing their own AKs and taking the market over. Today on TFBTV, James Reeves is at Zastava's booth at SHOT Show to check out their new Z77 or M77 rifle, a .308 AK-47 made in Serbia. It's possible for Zastava to import these rifles, however, the logistics of doing so are difficult, so it's unclear that it will happen, but it is possible. Anyways, check out how sweet this gun is.

    I think it would generate a lot of interest. Especially if you can bring in a large supply of magazines - including low-capacity mags (like 5 rounders) for hunting in some jurisdictions. I love AKs and already have a .308 (like many American shooters). But there's nothing on the market that I know of that's like this.

      Do I think the pros of 6.5 CM matter for 99% of people compared to 308? Not at all. But it is important not to dismiss all newer cartridges, particularly the small number that gain very good traction. There is a happy medium.

    The first run of M77s were priced around $600 or less. It took people a while to catch on to those guns and the price came up a little. They were still as cheap or cheaper than their M70 counterparts.
    I'd love to see this come in at a good price with a good rail attachment method using their new side mount rails.
    I sold my M77 for well more than I paid for it because I became frustrated by the lack of accuracy at range due to the amount of flex in the scope mounting system.
    I could average better MOA groups at 100 using open sights than I could, at 300 using a scope because of the incompatibility of mounting parts for a scope. If they can fix this issue, and somehow mitigate the wicked cheek slap 😁 I'd buy another one to represent my Serbian heritage. Zastava, I hope you're listening, živeli!

    • @pimpovic2
      @pimpovic2 Před 2 lety +1

      Accuracy will highly depend on the ability to mount a scope in a solid manner. I sold my M77 and got into an AR10 for this very reason. First day out in the AR10, I was at 1.5 MOA with ball ammo.
      With the M77 I was 4-6 MOA because of scope mount issues. After many range trips and no success, I had to really evaluate my need for the rifle. I liked it for other reasons, but not enough to fight with it if I couldn't get hits on target.
      The AR10 solves that problem for me. Not to mention the fact that you can set them up in a dozen different configurations because of the aftermarket. Became a no brainer.
