r502692 dang it lyrics keep syncing up with comments I’m reading. This is the second time today. It’s freaky. Shit the other was fat Albert from gold teeth
Wow...more than 4 million hits - this makes me smile since I have been following these guys for a long time (I wrote about them when they were just getting on the circuit for an online zine). I remember seeing them play at Cafe de Nord in San Francisco, the show wasn't sold out (amazingly) and I totally geeked out when I met them :)
"Don't follow Lost Prophets"...... "Thou shall not think any male over the age of 30 that plays with a child that is not their own is a paedophile, some people are just nice" Errrm slightly uneasily prophetic these lyrics considering the admittance in recent days about the sexual crimes on children by Ian Watkins from Lost Prophets.
how does the "thou shalt not idolize musicians" bit work out with the "thou shalt not take [bunch of legendary musician's names] in vain" bit? am i confused or is he?
+nouseforafknname I think that he's deliberately putting in contradictory arguments. The whole point of the song (to me at least) is "think for yourself, don't just follow other people." And other people includes himself. Hence he puts in contradictory advice, just so you can't just follow him. You have to think for yourself a little bit, and maybe, just maybe, that will get the process going.
+nouseforafknname Belittling those that are more creative or more praised or more successful is how unimaginative, mediocre minds attempt to elevate themselves. Trashing those BIG NAME musicians is kind of a lazy sport for half wits who denigrate the things which intimidate them. Not taking their name in vain is not the same as making idols of them, and while no one should be exempt from criticism it's stupid and worthless to piss on those sorts of people and things which are attempting to bring genuine beauty and meaning and even joy into people's lives, as opposed to the crass commercialized shit which inundates us daily. Rather than actually producing excellent art themselves some people instead choose to take the names of those great musical artists "in vain." The End.
+nouseforafknname Just because one appreciates a legendary musician like say Jim Morrison, does not mean they are making an idol out of that person. To idolise would mean to elevate Jim to a God like status. To not take in vain simply means to appreciate the work of Jim. Ie you are not idolising Jim as a person, just appreciating what he as a musician created.
This song is, was and evermore shall be a Bible for all and for none, a template of sorts to stand in front of and hope that as you, also can one day be 'nice'
Thou shalt not listen to a middle class bearded gentrifier of Hip Hop culture about what is and isn't Hip-Hop, whether or not said beard was grown before beards became cool. Thou shalt not listen to said middle class bearded gentrifier's admonishment of working class mannerisms and slang. Thou shalt read Owen Jones' 'Chavs' to understand why. Thou shalt always question Stephen Fry, who isn't at all a 'national treasure' but instead a mediocre actor and quiz show host who everybody thinks is cleverer than he is because he quips half-truths and badly researched one-liners in a posh accent.
Thou shalt not steal if there is a direct victim, love that one, been living by that since long before i heard this song, same with most of his "commandments"
I commented on this video 4 months ago, and the only reason I check my notification whatevers on here, is so that I can return to this amazing video and watch it over and over! It doesn't matter who you are or what you believe in, he's sending out amazing messages that make people think. That's more than I can say about alot of today's artists...
I think it is great to see some thoughtful and philosophical lyrics back in music again, and so much of what he says is so true it's both funny and uncanny!
Its great to see that there are Musicians out there who are taking progressive actions to make a statement instead of making music to say the same thing everyone else says on the radio. I would love to hear this one on the radio.
I SAW HIM YESTERDAY! He was just walkin down the street listening to his music and I nearly screamed in his face! :L (-_-) (He was playing a gig that night in a local club!!!) What a lovely guy too!! It was like meeting Jesus, only way cooler. X1000
Saw this live yesterday. It was AMAZING! I'd heard some stuff before but never paid much attention and seeing this live has converted me. I am a fan now!
This has become my theme song for the latter part of the summer! Absolutely genius lyrics, mix, everything! I hope y'all continue to create music for decades to come!
This is THE music anthem. All musicians should abide these laws, and all people who like music should use these as guidelines, all people who don't should stay at home on Facebook.
For those who think there's a problem with the concept of "Thou Shalt Always Kill" remember, "to kill" is also a stage term for giving an excellent performance.
don't get me wrong...i love this guy...but, does anyone else find it hilarious that the entire song is telling us what to do including telling us to think for ourselves? wonderful.
I think what he was getting at is that no matter how great they are at the end of the day they were only bands, the bands themselves would admit this. Their influence and the effect they had on people was much more but the bands didn't start out to active this, they started out and continued to make music and any other effect their music had was in part created by the people who listened to them.
ilovethissong why arent people like this in the charts? people who are actually real? unlike plastic fake people. when people like this pure british rappers.nothin' but dan le sac ? IILOVEYOU.
nice one! nice to see this bunch and others finally sounding like they actually LIVE in the times the rest of us have to put up with too, instead of the mere analgesic mind-mugging clothes adverts that most "modern" corporate music is and hath always been! cheers for postin!
Thank you you reminding me I forgot about this guy! I forget if I know that it’s a fact or if it’s just something someone told me either way the story goes that he had a super crazy stutter that inhibited him in his life and then when he found music and rapping it just goes. away I love that!
"Thou shall not make repetitive generic music thou shall not make repetitive generic music thou shall not make repetitive generic music." Lol. Beautiful...
On the album version there is an extra 2-3minuets of music, killing a track is when a song stops instantly, so when he says "thou shalt always kill" hes saying songs should stop like that, which it dosen't (except in this video) which carries on the theme of irony that the song portrays
One of the smartest and wittiest songs I've ever heard, I love how it mocks the pretentious snobbery of today's society. Don't understand the phoenix part though...
Man I saw this guy in Taboo and was trying to remember what his name is. Scroobius Pip is such a silly name, but kinda rad. Then I found this and was like oh shit I remember this!!!
Scarily relevant 15 years later. Such is the power of the wordsmith.
"Thou shalt not use poetry, art or music to get into a girls' pants....
Use it to get in their heads."
Love it. Still brill after all these years
"Thou shalt not question Stephen Fry." More pure and true words have never been spoken.
haven't played this in years. it's still fresh!
haret0n It just popped into my head today and I had to play it again (Sam).
@@quizzliesame, but today (also Sam)
@@quizzlie 2024 checking in. Seems to have improved with age!
Thou shalt not question Stephen Fry. I live my life by this.
When I hear some of the most popular songs on the radio my first thought is "though shall not make repetitive generic music"
+r502692 though shall not make repetitive generic music
though shall not make repetitive generic music
though shall not make repetitive generic music
Thou, not though.
Thou shall not stop liking a band just because they've become popular.
r502692 dang it lyrics keep syncing up with comments I’m reading. This is the second time today. It’s freaky. Shit the other was fat Albert from gold teeth
Listened for the umpteenth time. Still great.
Still amazing

Less than 500,000 in the years since...
Hail Britain for bringing forth the best music for decades now!
"Thou shalt not worship Pop Idols or follow Lostprophets." Don't think many people are following Lost prophets anymore! ahah
thou shalt always...
thou shalt always kiww
Why censored? WHY?!
it was uploaded years ago, when swearing was less common and accepted on CZcams, I guess they were worried about the song being taken down
A different world then - tvs, recording style, effects, effort...
And yet exactly the same as now.
I'm [also] from Texas, USA. This is the first time I've ever heard him or this song.
This is like the alternative bible
Finger on the pulse as ever with The Lost Prophets.
Haha
I have done far too many of these things Scroobius Pip hates me :-
Still one of my favourite tracks/videos ever, 6 years later. God bless Pip
this song needs to be longer. SO GOOD.
borderline fisher price AV quality, but this could be deliberate. Bare respect for the majority of these tunes tho.

John Pitts Found the stinky chav.
thou shallt not post lengthyy comments questioning two small parts of a piece of satire.
You clearly didn't see the whole irony of the commandments with the 2nd last being think for yourself.
You sir keep my faith in humanity alive.
This sums up everything good about late 2000s
Thou shalt not steal if there is a direct victim, love that one, been living by that since long before i heard this song, same with most of his "commandments"
16 years ago - Jesus christ. Amazing wordplay, pure art

from start to finish. brilliant. Jolly good show beared man and helpers.
Spent an hour trying to find this (all I could recall was the part where he throws away the records, no lyrics) - definitely worth it.
Thou shall admit this is one of the best tunes of the past 10 years
Excellent!!!!!!!!!!! This guy is pure class
Why have only just discovered this guy?!?! Awesome

Love this song!
This doesn't stop being awesome.
i love the way it says, 'thou shalt always think for yourselves' great irony to the rest of the song, what a genius song!
This is THE music anthem. All musicians should abide these laws, and all people who like music should use these as guidelines, all people who don't should stay at home on Facebook.
This tune is class with headphones and just listening to the drums.
For those who think there's a problem with the concept of "Thou Shalt Always Kill" remember, "to kill" is also a stage term for giving an excellent performance.
don't get me wrong...i love this guy...but, does anyone else find it hilarious that the entire song is telling us what to do including telling us to think for ourselves? wonderful.
Does anybody else love that after he tells you what to do, he says "think for yourself?"
Best thing for quite a while.
I think what he was getting at is that no matter how great they are at the end of the day they were only bands, the bands themselves would admit this. Though shall not question Steven Fry.... yes.

"Thou shall not make repetitive generic music thou shall not make repetitive generic music thou shall not make repetitive generic music." Lol. Beautiful...

I'd vote for him, and better yet, I'd watch all his speeches and public addresses.
I like this!
One of the smartest and wittiest songs I've ever heard, I love how it mocks the pretentious snobbery of today's society. Don't understand the phoenix part though...
I think about this song every time I have to write pheonix.
Lovin it..
Thou shalt not forget these words.
Yeah it is great to see some decent lyrics and philoshpephy back in music
Great song. I love the John Baldessari reference.
there just a band fucking love it!!!
"thou shalt think for themselves" but if we listened to what he said then we're just listening to him....what do i do!
Really loved this, :o)
This guy is a hero for the single reason of naming Crass, Minor Threat & the Pixies.(& no I'm not breaking any commandments here.)
these lyrics should be listened to by all those hardcore patriots from uk and america! might learn a thing or 2
Syd Barrett, this is a good song!
Man I saw this guy in Taboo and was trying to remember what his name is. Scroobius Pip is such a silly name, but kinda rad. Then I found this and was like oh shit I remember this!!!
pure brilliance
Thou shall not Dislike this song.
thou shalt not dislike this song.
I agree with half of this stuff.
The other half makes me think.
Good stuff.
@liltrevies I thought I was delusional when I felt like this about music. It's nice to know someone else does!
I like how he chucks the albums but gently places down the Oxford English dictionary :>
