  • www.truthforlife.org || By: Sinclair Ferguson - How can pastors help their congregations deal with the temptations that arise every day? Teaching from James 2, Sinclair Ferguson describes our experience when tempted and the defenses we have in the Gospel. Though it may occur in an instant, temptation follows a five-stage pattern: attraction, deception, preoccupation, conception and, finally, subjugation. Our best response is to slow down, focus on the character of God, especially his unfailing goodness to us, and remind ourselves that the new birth has given us a new identity in Christ.

    Wish every Christian leader would listen…maybe 10 times. Not only great exposition and theology but great psychology (applied sanctification).

    A great and very important message, thank you.
    I love the “Slow down” 👏👏
    I slow things down by praying about everything now before acting on or making decisions , a lesson learned so late in life💪 however it still doesn’t cure from making wrong decisions when putting your trust in humans. Deception is real. I pray for Gods will not mine. Thank you Jesus all glory be to God Amen 🙏

    "Slow everything down", that's what Dallas Willard says. (around 38:25)

    Protection from Temptation: (1) 40:22 Become familiar with the temptation cycle. (2) 43:27 Become convinced of the unchanging goodness of God. (3) 49:18 Become aware of the significance of the new birth.

    You can tell this isn't a Presbyterian church, all the chatter coming from the congregation. I'm not used to hearing Dr. Ferguson amongst the Baptists.

    What do u do when the pastor can’t deal with temptation just so called repents yet continues preaching?? Is Christianity that easy?

    • @frankz1664
      @frankz1664 Před 3 lety

      Are you talking about falling to sin or just being tempted? And not all who preach are saved. He who does sin and falls relies on God's mercy and tries to not fall again

      Then I'd have to question if this Pastor is actually saved. Keep in mind that we're all sinner's, and Adamic in nature. However, if Christ is in us, and we in Christ, we shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. This particular Pastor you're referring too is deceived and is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. If he doesn't turn from his evil ways, there remains no salvation for those who deliberately sin.
      (Hebrews 10:26)

      We don't only believe it but live by it. It will change your life also. Jesus loves and died for you and can change your cynicism as well.
