    Damn the price of everything has gone up; this costs $1500, but a few years ago I bought an old town salty pdl for something like $1900. Wish it was just a bit longer, at even 11 feet it would be a bit better for larger bodies of water. Nice review!

      @@ShenpaiWasTaken thanks! Yeah I want the old town for sure. My buddy bought one after I picked this up… super jealous. But this is what I could afford at the time so gonna make it work for a season or two lol. And yeah price of the sportsman has gone way up… just like everything else… so annoying. Definitely focusing on upgrades I can transfer to the next kayak haha.

    Yo dude. I just got one of these recently as well (the 12.6) and I'm in the Boise area.
    I had my cable snap in 2 days (got it used) for the steering, and re-crimped them to fix it.
    Long story short, I was exploring all of the areas of friction, because a lot of guys talk about re-routing the cable to make it straighter, which is valid.
    For me, I found that the rudder itself was VERY stiff, even when the cables weren't attached to anything.
    In my case, the thru-bolt on the rudder (The longest vertical bolt) was way too tight. I backed it off 1/4th of a turn, and it was perfect. I applied blue loctite, but if you were worried about this, I'd recommend blue loctite and one extre nut on the end of the thru-bolt to lock-nut the first one.
    This entirely fixed my issue, and the steering went from giving me a blister in 2 days to being extremely smooth and easy comparatively. I can steer with two fingers and no fatigue from this.
    Worth checking into.

    I have the same kayak, change my rudder to a beaver tail. What a difference it made, turns very quickly now, so far I haven’t had any problem with the steering handle,but planning on upgrading that, that seat riser looks great might get that , mahalo for the info

      @@andrewcalma269 yeah beaver tail upgrade is my next purchase. Which did you get? As far as starting, the 8ball is amazing. Soooook much easier to rotate left and right

    I picking mine up for Father's day sale. Used it a couple of times and a big upgrade from field and stream talon 120. Took into harbor and out to open water handles waves and very stable. Definitely, gona look to upgrade rudder control. Thanks for the upload. Not many videos on here.

      @@Russianking56 awesome! Yeah the stock rudder control is just junk for sure and after hours on the water your hand is just done.

    What seat risers did you use? I have the same issue, my knees were wrecked after 2 hours on the water. So far the Lost Creek kayak is great for the price, but some upgrades are certainly required.

    • @IdahoOutdoorDad
      @IdahoOutdoorDad  Před měsícem +1

      @@JonH-lj3gu got them from 3D YAK Designs. They are for the riot mako but work well. May need to put tracks in the back to lock down the rear risers but was on the water for 5 hours with them and they didn’t slip at all yet. 3dyak.com/products/riot-seat-riser?_pos=1&_sid=372b5db12&_ss=r super happy with them.
