  • EARTH DAY 2for1 offer on: www.organicup.com/
    CODE: Earthday
In 2010, for every kilometre of beach in the UK, 23 pads/panty liners and 9 tampon applicators were found.
In celebration of Earth Day, a day dedicated to provide the information and inspiration needed to change our attitude and behaviour towards plastics, Organicup are DOUBLING up on all orders. Most conventional period products contain plastic, which takes decades to degrade in landfills. So, take the plunge with a friend, sibling or your mum and DOUBLE UP on the effort to eliminate waste from pads and tampons to the benefit of our planet.

I love your honesty. I'm a convert, too. I have a TMI story too! I first used a Diva cup in 2010. I was experiencing horrible 'heavy flow' issues of getting older (I was in my mid 40's then). A super size tampon would be soaked in an hour and slide right out (TMI??). The problem... I was an actor, on stage, and couldn't exactly run off stage during the big dance number to sort myself out! SO embarrassing... the cup changed my life. Not only did it contain the terrible flooding, but it made my cycle shorter by about 3 days! I had to change it more often than the 12 hours, but nowhere near as often as the dang tampons. After that, I could get away with just panty liners 'just in case" and have never had a significant accident . Last month, with the help of your channel and some other low waste champions that I follow, I sat down at my sewing machine and made a small batch of washable liners. So March was my first Zero-Waste period... AND I was competing in a Karate tournament (yes, I'm also very active in sports) and staying in a hotel, so I thought it would be a big challenge. Well, it was EASY. The cup and the reusable pads were comfy and kept me totally confident -- I even brought home some medals from the tournament! Talk about menstrual cup SUCCESS!!

A tip: if you have a squirt bottle or Peri bottle, you can fill it in the sink before going into the stall. Remove and rinse in the stall and no one is the wiser.
Also: (for pregnant ladies) post partem (after delivery) you'll want to switch to pads until you're fully recovered from birth, which will give you time to get a larger size menstrual cup.

These things changed my life!! I was so afraid to use them and thought they were disgusting but I gave it a try and wish I had way earlier! Through middle school and high school I was known as the girl who leaked everywhere. If I would’ve used this back then I bet you I would not have had those nicknames. And saved all those tampons from going into the landfill, not to mention all the money spent on tampons!

  • @FinsternisSan

Pro-tip, if you are feeling a bit dry when you're using/practicing with any menstrual cup use a WATER based lube and it can help make things a little smoother. Silicone on silicone will damage your cup. I do not recommend oil because if you're planning on having sex and you use protection like condoms or dental dams it will damage it and it will cause breakage!
Menstrual cups were one of the first things I switched to before I even knew what the concepts of zero/low waste was (even though i was trying). Sadly I didn't learn in my school but I learned about them in a job course that had a sex education part of the course and they mentioned them! Diva cups were locally made where I lived so they were cheaper and when I went back to visit Canada (where I'm from) I saw commercials/billboards for them! Which was kind of great and apparently people who menstruate in Canada have the highest rate of using reusable menstrual products which I found really cool to learn.

I bought a cup a couple months ago. Unfortunately I haven't tried it yet because I'm so concious about it. I am still not so keen with things up there (I have used tampons less than 5 times in my whole life, and when I did I regretted it) but I hope I can get to know my body a little more and better while helping the environment and my wallet. I hate the stigma around this matter. When told my mum and my gyno they both looked at me as if I were some alien and my mum was so disgusted. There's definitely the need to talk about cups more and fight the fear together, because that is what got me into my mentality of "not putting things up there"

Hey Ludovica, it also took me a while to adapt to the idea, before buying the cup I hadn't used tampons more than like 6 times. Anyway, once i bought the cup I didn't like the idea of keeping touching myself everytime I had to change it, it made me uncomfortable and stressed out but also curious, you know? I liked the idea of knowing my menstruation a bit better. Well, it took me 3 cycles to adapt and even then I suggest carrying always a plan B with you in the case you just don't feel like putting it on. I happened to me more than once to emptying the cup while i was in a bad mood and then not being able to insert it back on because I was too tight! Relaxing is key :3

Rosita La Rosa you are so sweet! I got the chance to use my cup for a whole period and it actually was alright. I still am a bit reluctant to having to get it in and out, but I have to do it like 2 times a day because it can hold for 10 hours so I can do it. It can get frustrating at times and that really doesn't help but I'm slowly getting use to it. Thanks for the advice ❤

    (from a student in college)
One thing me and my friends who switched over noticed was a lack of cramps while using cups! We all had really terrible cramps when using normal tampons, but as soon as I switched to the cup there was a very noticeable difference.
I personally use the DIVA cup because that's what was available, and it's a little more on the stiff side but does a really nice job and is super easy to use as well.
100% worth the investment - I'm happier, healthier, wealthier, and just more comfortable using the cup

Menstrual cups have definitely changed my life!!! Pads and tampons are annoying and always made me feel uncomfortable. Plus I was always scared of TSS from tampons. Also since I started using cups my cramps have gotten better. I own the ruby cup and it is great for beginners and they also donate a cup to girls and women in third world countries for every cup that is sold. I don't own any cloth pads, but I will get some soon. Love your channel!!!

Commenting just because I don't want anyone to think they can't wear one. But they do make cups for those with a low cervix and there are hundreds on woman in the Put a Cup In It fb group who have endometriosis and use cups and love them. The Put a Cup In It website also has a quiz you can take that will help narrow the best options for you based on many aspects as such as a high, medium or low/very low cervix.

Perhaps try a different cup when working out. I have the Yukki cup and while it is slightly unpleasant for day to day use because the rim is so sturdy, that suction is not breaking! I was tired of how long it took me to break the suction to remove it (but I also have long nails and try to not shove them very far up during removal so that could be why) so I got a softer cup but I don’t trust that one for a crazy day

Im now using a cup...im on my second cycle with it. I do quite enjoy it, however my second and third day im extremely heavy and cant use it at work even with a removable pad....i have to use a stall in a washroom (this is a TMI moment lol) and in removing the cup to empty last month, so much blood came out and was all over my hand and a couple drops got on my beige work pants.....it was a disaster!! The time it took trying to wipe off my hand and the cup with the damp paper towel i brought in with me took a long time (which I don’t have the luxury of in a busy restaurant) and also trying to clean off my pants with soap.
So, unfortunately, if I have to work on my two heavy days, i will have to wear a tampon and reusable pad. for the two days during my shifts, ill go through probably a total of 6 tampons. It’s not ideal, but better than wearing tampons through my whole cycle with disposable pads.

In Italy the first period of a girl is welcomed and shouted out at every relative/friend/anypersonyourfamilyknow, cos you became a "woman" and that's great 😀
    Not embarassing at all 😅
I feel period to be such a gross thing that I would literally avoid using the toilet if I could. I didn't think I'd be able to go on with reusable pads for this reason, I thought I'd feel sick every time.
But I tried them recently and I was surprised, they're great!
So I may switch to the cup too soon ☺

SAME! I started using it around 4 months ago. If youre going to try it, my biggest advice to you is to have normal pads for the first few months because chances are, you are not going to be used to it - it's going to take you forever to remove or insert it and no one has that amount of time in the morning where you have to go to work or smth. But once you do, welcome to the world of comfortable sitting where you dont have to care about whether youre going to leak from simplying sitting back on your bed. :)

ring miester honestly it depends on your flow and cup size. I dont have heavy flow, so mine is a 15ml cup (compared to ones w/ 30ml capacity) and i change it every 12 hours or so (morning and night, basically). If you have a heavy flow and a small cup, high chances are you have to remove it more often. I have heard that it is recommended you remove the cup every 12 hours. But then i've also heard that it's technically safe to even use it after 12hrs becuz silicone doesnt really do anything to your body - the blood just gets oxidised from staying out for long time or smth (dont quote me on that) so it go a bit of a weird colour. But i would stick to 12hrs cycles (or less), just to be safe :)

I started using a cup two months ago. The stem of mine is as long as yours, but I'm always struggling with getting the cup out again.. Is there something I can do about that or do I have to buy a cup with a longer stem? Thanks for that very informativ video!! :)

Hey everyone! I've been using a menstrual cup for a little over a year now and love it. I have lived at home all this time. However, this fall i am transferring into a dorm for college and i am sharing a bathroom with 3 other people. Any suggestions on how to change it without having to take it out to the sink every time? Should i just keep some sort of water bottle with me in the bathroom? Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Dani W granted I’m a guy but don’t be embarrassed about it. The water bottle idea is a good idea but also maybe u’ll start a trend at ur dorm or maybe u’ll meet someone else that is also using the cups.

You can bring a water bottle with you to the bathroom (no one will think it's weird promise) or what I do is I find a gender neutral bathroom. In most dorms these will be single bathrooms rather than stalls. From, a fellow menstrual cup user 💛

Just wondering, about a few things that were left out....how do you take the cup out. If it's full of blood and you squeeze it (to make it small enough to pull out), won't the blood go everywhere?

are you supposed to never be able to feel it, even when "clenching" the muscles around the vagina, like when doing kegels? cause I only feel mine then and I'm not sure whether that's normal

Hi I was wondering if you have ever thought about using thinx period panties, I want to be zero waste when I am older because I live at home because I’m only 13 and I’m already looking for a bunch of stuff and I want to get the panties because I have heard a lot of good reviews and things about them, so I just wanted to know if you have ever thought about using them

When you take it out does it hurt the same way as when you pull out a dry tampon?

    • @SustainablyVegan
      @SustainablyVegan  Před 6 lety +1

No because the cup doesn't absorb anything so your vagina will still secret the stuff it needs to to keep it healthy and that prevents your vagina from becoming dry and therefore making it hard to get the cup out x

  • @theminimalistvegan8592

Ok stupid question alert... I'm interested in buying one but I never got on with tampons. No matter what I did I could always tell I'd got it in, anyone else experience this and gone on to have a good cup experience? Also, I'm unsure whether I need size A or B. I am a mummy to one but had her after a long traumatic labour, I never got to 10 cm and she was brought into the world via emergency c section. Any advice appreciated x

Hi this is like 3 years late but if you are still interested saalt make a soft version of the cup of you found tampons very uncomfortable that could be good choice, they also have a quiz to help with your size

Adelicia Graham You might want take a look at Meluna. I find that their cups are the most customisable out of all. It took me some tries but I eventually got it in and it was so worth it. I have not sent any period-related trash into landfill in over a year! It is also the most revolutionary thing I have ever discovered. Good luck!

the reason i don't like them is because they smell, no matter how much i boil and sanitize it. it's like the nasty...bloody...vaginal discharge smell all sinks into it. sometimes i boil it for 20 min!!! i'd rather use cloth pads and Thinx underwear :)
