Sometimes at the supermarket, I see fruit like dragon fruit, lychee, mangosteen, and I'm never sure how to eat it. Last week, my neighbour gave me some already opened pomelo and I tried to eat it like an orange! Everyone shouted "no no stop!" I didn't know I had to peel the pith, because it was my fist time.

I do this too. I'd like clarification on how hygiene factors in with this practice. Are we supposed to use one hand to take the cherries out of the communal plate and use the other hand to feed ourselves and remove the pit? Or do we take everything we want off the communal plate first?
As a healthcare professional, I would like to point out that it's not sanitary to use fingertips to remove a fruit stone from a mouth, especially in a public place. One would inevitably touch something that others touch or shake hands and etcetera, before washing hands, which would transfer the germs from a mouth to a surface or on to someone directly. It's best to use a fork to remove from a mouth a stone from a fruit or an olive and place it on your plate.

May I ask you something? I'm left-handed and you're using a knife with your right hand which is uncomfortable and impossible and also hard for me. So, can I switch the roles of knife and fork or not ? Thank you in advance.
