  • Worth buying a 4G/LTE Router? | TP-Link TL-MR6400 Complete Set Up. In this video we take a look at how to set up a 4G/LTE Router. The model i am using is the TP-Link TL-MR6400, this is a 300 Mbps router, however, there are faster speeds available up to 1200mbps. We go through the box, to see what is included and go through a complete set up of the router and what settings are available.

    Thanks for the tutorial. But you don't answer the question in your video title: is it worth buying a 4G / LTE router? I was hoping for a plus / cons compared to other router types (possibly models per budget) and so on.

    I tried one of these but ended up sending it back because my phone s9+ gave me better results USB tethered. I will continue to search and keep looking for the best 4g device. The Nighthawk seems to be the best thing I've found so far. External and directional antennas could be really useful to play with.

    One thing you did not touch on is what "part" of the carrier plan does the router use. Ok lets make this simple. lets say I want a unlimited all US Mobile plan. That plan comes with unlimited talk and text and data until 75 gigs. After that it gets slowed. BUT there is no mobile hotspot. Does the router use just the regular phone data or does it need a carrier with mobile hotspot?

    Stupid questions:
    Can you prioritize the router to use the WAN connection instead of the 4G connection, if the WAN connection is UP ?
    If so, would it switch automatically to 4G when the Internet is no longer reachable over WAN ?
    My plan is to use this router to provide automatic backup if the primary WAN goes down, so it doesn't use up the 4G data..

    Iv just started to look into 4g for my internet connection and only need it for my PC... is there any difference in speed and ping between a router and dongle? i was also consider a antenna on the outside of my house, i imagen that isn't possible with a dongle. Any help here would be appreciated.
    For reference i get 10mbs down and 1mbs up (internet speed test) in reality its 1.1mbs down and 800kb/1mbs up. With a ping of 29/40ms.

    • @InsideWire
      @InsideWire  Před 2 lety

      For the 4G router/dongle, its all about placement, I would assume the dongle would plug into the back of your PC under your desk. With the router it can be placed anywhere, so you might get a better signal. I have not tested this with an external antenna so i could not comment on that, i can only assume you would get a better speed.
      Hope this helps

    I have an extra iPad that has its own SIM card and unlimited ATT account,but it’s a 5G capable account. Do you think the SIM card will work in this device? I’m concerned that the router won’t be able to access the 5G network. We also have 4G here. Does the router just automatically try connecting to 4G or is it capable of connecting to 4G or 5G? I hope the question is clear.

I think the TP Link Archer AX50 is what I’m thinking is what I need, but happy to be advised. What I don’t understand is someone I know who lives close by, has one but also has some kind of box outside the house to pick up the o2 or ee or Vodafone connection as well. Nothing I’ve watched or read suggests an outside box. So before I buy I need to understand if the router I’ve chosen for myself is correct & do I need this box? And at 1:29 we can clearly see that it's only capable of 150Mbps download speeds, even though you've called it a 300Mbps router twice at this point, owing to its network speed. To be honest I blame the companies; all the product descriptions overstate the network speed and understate the download speed. And real world speeds will be lower. But don't get me wrong, they are still BRILLIANT devices when you need one (country bumpkin here!).
