I've never heard anyone say anything bad about John Prine...only high praise. I'm glad I was fortunate enough to have seen him perform a few times while he was here. I'd like to see Tim O'Brien perform too...he is a mighty talented guy.

John Prine made me proud to be from Muhlenberg County. Glad I got to see John play in Muhlenberg County! During the Everly Brothers Homecoming concert years and a couple other times he came back here to play. Always was pure magic on stage!
Thanks for doing a sit-down with Tim. After recording "Let Me Love You One More Time" for Ralph Stanley's "Clinch Mt. Country" album, Ralph stated after Tim left that O'Brien was the easiest person he'd ever sung with." Ralph definitely knew a talented singer when he heard one.
I love singing John Prine songs and folks never complain. One of the best song writers ever. But Tim, listen to me, you are catching up with John. You are an amazing writer in your own right.
Speaking of duet albums, one of my desert island discs is Tim and Darrell Scott. What talent! Also, an old picking buddy's cousin, Joe Diffy died of the covid about the same time Prine did. It was a tough year for the heart.

You autographed my copy of "Red on Blond" in the hospitality suite at the North Texas Irish Festival in 'bout 2004 when you headlined. I was playing with the _excellent_ band that opened for you. I put that CD in my backpack and never saw it again.

Covid took so many from us. My son was one of them. I'm crying as i write this. Seems like the pain never will go away.. Special people weren't exempt. Thank Otis for your interviews. Don't stop. Looking forward to the next.

My band opened for Bill Monroe one time and when he got offstage he immediately walked over to us and said “which one of ya’ll is the mandolin player?” We were scared to tell him we didn’t have one. We had two tenor saxes ,guitar,accordion,bass and drums. Turns out he was selling some mandolin strings. I regret not buying them now,even though I still don’t play mandolin

Your comment made me think of a time I went to a guy's house to practice some songs he had written. On the wall in his studio was a picture of him and John Prine sitting at John's kitchen table eating breakfast. Turned out that John was married to or dating my buddy's ex.
I told him I bet it was an interesting conversation going on at that table.

It's amazing to think Prine wrote some of those early tunes when he was like 19 or 20 years old. Sam Stone etc. Just like Hank, he was wise beyond his years, or what some like to call an old soul. I gotta star eating more meatloaf and hot dogs or something.

Incredible story about Arnold Schultz. Good for all of us to know about this history. A bit like another unsung, mostly unknown guitar player named Leslie Riddle who traveled and collected songs with AP Carter, and influenced May-belle Carter's guitar playing style. No Arnold Schultz? ... maybe no Bill Monroe? No Leslie Riddle, .. Maybe No Carter Family? No Carter Family or no Bill Monroe? Whoa.....unimaginable

Otis, love your channel. I learn so much good stuff. But something is bothering me. Every time I hear guys from Nashville talk about the incredible expertise in that town, not only the musicians but the song writers, I wonder how in the hell there is so much crap on country radio right now. This past weekend I drove from NC to south Georgia to visit some cousins and the country songs were simple dreadful. Someone like John Prine is probably rolling over in his grave listening to all those lyrics about tight jeans, pickup trucks, front porches, and watermelons. What, pray, can be done about this?
Those guys he’s talking about are mostly session players. That’s why they have to be do good. They’ll play anything they’re paid to play,crap or not. There are also players who aren’t part of that scene though.
@@ledaswan5990 I specifically mentioned the song writers. The songs and the lyrics are almost universally dreadfull crap these days. I always assume the session players are technically great and will back what they're told to back, just like the Wrecking Crew, who were mostly jazz players who did not much like rock 'n roll, but they liked the money.,

I seen John Prine in concert at Louisville gardens in Kentucky back in 2010.. it was a great show, he's the best comedian I've ever seen, also a pretty good guitar picker, God bless John rip
