- Zheng Shan Xiao Zhong (正山小種, Zhèng Shān Xiǎo Zhǒng, "Correct Mountain Little Type") - This legendary smoked red tea hails from Tong Mu, in the Wuyi Mountains. It is the oldest red tea, making the Wuyi Mountains the origin point for both oolong and red teas. This tea is unique in that it is smoked over pine wood. It was developed when, scared away by approaching militia, Ming-dynasty tea farmers fled and left their tea harvest on the trail. The soldiers made camp on the soft piles of leaves, and by the time the farmers returned in the morning, the leaves had oxidized. In order to cut their losses, the farmers dried the “ruined” tea over open pine fires instead of wasting expensive charcoal. The dark, smoky character was completely new and immediately popular, giving rise to the 600-year tradition of curing Zhèng Shān Xiǎo Zhǒng with smoke. Our Xiǎo Zhǒng is produced using traditional methods in Tong Mu itself, now a UNESCO world heritage site. It is cured in a three-story wooden smokehouse in a process that takes two months from picking to finished leaf, overseen by Master Chen Shui Man. Its flavor is deep, clean, and evocative, with a unique pine character, smoky fragrance, and rich, malty sweetness that persists for 7-9 steepings.

Never stop with these videos. Love them
So far, I think this is the best tea ever together with some variants of oolong (very different taste, but I would put them on the same level).
What can I say of all my teas I have this exact tea in a stainless steel sealed jar because it most favorite red tea. This tea is undeniably smoky in aroma and a delight to drink with a slight to mild smoky taste. If you enjoy smoked cocktails this is the tea I would recommend to try and I am sure you will be ordering more. ☺️👍
Super clean and smooth-looking teaware as well, really accentuates the color of the brew. Awesome
I need to try this! It sounds amazing. I’m binge watching your channel right now and you’re content is amazing. Keep up the great work!
Loving the tea sketches
I thought ''tea sketches'' was about actual sketching so I wasn't clicking XD nice idea about that series, I will watch more of them
Great video as always! Loving theses sketches
Gosh- I'm such a fan of red teas, but sadly the pine smoke makes this inaccessible to me-- BOO. But it looks delicious.
Many tea sellers also sell an unsmoked version, which is amazing. Unsmoked Tong Mu Guan Zheng Shan Xiao Zhong is one of my favorite red teas. You should give it a try (the unsmoked version) if you ever come across some from a reputable vendor. Highly recommended
Dammm I still have a little bit of this kind of tea but it's way to late to be drinking tea..... I so so sooooo badly want to set a cup now. You make it look so insanely good. Using them fancy slomo shots and all.
Red tea is the only type of tea that my body reacts badly to; I get an itchiness in my throat. For _Zhèng Shān Xiǎo Zhǒng_ (正山小種), a weaker dose helped lessen the reaction, but that didn't apply for _Jīn Jùn Méi_ (金駿眉, Golden Eyebrow).
How long do you steep for soak steeping?
Not very long. A few seconds
