I read this one "y/n" thing and in all the comments, people were mentioning "y/n" as some other girl (fanfiction was on Wattpad, I forgot the name though ;-;)
Honestly in my opinion the best y/n and m/n fics are where they actively avoid/are not interested in the characters pursuits. Provides great potential for slow burn while also making the relations seem more natural because they have to go through a period of getting to know each other before they jump off to book the wedding.
I also feel like platonic y/n's are pretty cool! It's hard to find platonic stories where they aren't a child or related to a character but when you do it's always such a good read

i feel like the "depressed y/n" trope is often used because of the weird romanticized culture there is around women and being despressed (yeah, y/ns are supposed to be nonbinary but the main demographic of fanfic readers, especially Y/N x character readers, are cis girls/women). there's this idea that women being depressed isnt some hard-hitting mental illness that can genuinely destroy that person, instead its viewd as the "sexy, tragic and traumatized love interest who needs to be fixed and helped". its a "baby, i can fix you" type dynamic that plays into the idea that all a woman needs to be happy is a man who can sweep her off her feet and take her away. its just this really misogynistic theme that is really unfortunate to see in fanfics. a way to impove this "depressed y/n" trope is to make the y/n's love interest genuinely want to help them through their struggles instead of being this all-purpose hunk that makes every situation better. then again, it is important to remember that these are works of fiction, and sometimes the people who write them do it for escapism from their real world problems, so its fine if not every detail is perfect and "correct". p.s. i hope this is comprehensible and actually makes sense lmao. I completely agree to this, sometimes the way their written is brought out as stereotypical and wrong but Fanfictions as a way to cope is the good side of this. Although they are not physically here, we can still feel their intentions through the stories. I’ve seen a lot of people hate on Y/ns for their given mental illnesses when they clearly don’t know this is how some of many deal with it. It saddens me they don’t actually do their research and just thinking we’re romanticizing ADHD, OCD, Multiple Personality Disorder etc.

I think the most realistic Mha x Reader book I've read is " The Ocean: Mha x OP!Reader " I know it says OP and sometimes books like that are not very good but in this one not everyone like the reader when she (yes it's for female readers sorry ;-;) first makes an appearance (I stopped reading because I was lazy but I'll finish reading the lastest chapter soon enough -w-)

i love this video, it's very accurate to what i remember back when i was like 11 or 12, thought i was cis, and obsessed with wattpad reader insert fanfics. i'm not really into gacha so i almost didn't click on this video, i'm so glad i did anyway it's so good there's always been something up with fem!readers like.... i wonder how those kids who wrote/write these stereotypes are doing...? abusive family/partner(s), the character's defining personality trait is being depressed, dramatic love triangles, some random snobby girl trying to ruin MC's life because she likes the romantic interest(s) too.... makes me wonder what kinda life the author was living because i realize artists sometimes project themselves and their emotions into their art n stuff. or maybe it was just some kids who wanted a spicy fanfic? or people just wrote what seemed trendy? i remember reading a lot of mystreet (does anyone remember aphmau's minecraft series?) fanfics and these tropes were STRONG in those but everyone was quite young so i think it's just what everyone saw as trendy. i still read reader inserts to this day (it's just a major coping thing now, honestly :']), but they are on tumblr and the fandom i am in now is a lot more mature and reader is usually gender-neutral (my non-binary ass thrives bc of that) so i don't know if these tropes are still as heavy anymore.
i'm 16 now and i really wanna go through old fanfics i used to read all those years ago and revisit the wacky storylines, i think it'd be fun.
SOMEONE SAID IT. There aren’t supposed to be any gender roles for Y/N, they’re supposed to be the reader the reader may not be male OR female. I’m pretty sure there are a ton of ways to make the story gender inclusive. No offense to any fan fics who’ve done this, some are good regardless, it just irks me to see male and female Y/N when it makes no sense. (Feminine and Masculine make more sense to me)

I love how, since I use they/them, that it's so easy for me to read both F!Reader as well as M!Reader. The only thing that sucks is that the M!Reader fanfics and the NB!Reader fanfics are so rare to find, especially since most of them get alot of hate for whatever reason which often results in the author not posting anymore updates on it.
I ended up doing that in a oneshot book which was male characters x male reader. It's on wattpad and there are two of them. Just search "Male characters x Male reader" There are two books.

Bro, bro, this is so freaking tru, and anyone who says it isn't probably hasn't read a lot of fanfic with y/n 😂. With a lot of fanfics (usually when the y/n is portrayed as female), they always have sad backstories, either they have a princess personality where they always need to be protected, are the kindest person in the world or are just plain mean randomly. Not to mention a lot of times they're rich or are completely overpowered. They're almost always good at everything (it's usually things that their love interests like to do), and almost immediately, they somehow get the hearts of everyone except the bullies. They're never normal or relatable at all; the only ones that are usually relatively normal are the male y/n or the y/n where no love is involved. I honestly didn't know I'd be this happy to see someone make a video like this, but I am so thanks😂
for p2 u should add the “yandere” y/n, like the annoying ones where they see their love interest talking to another human being and are like “how DARE they take away my senpai…” and then kills them and somehow gets away with it

a way to impove this "depressed y/n" trope is to make the y/n's love interest genuinely want to help them through their struggles instead of being this all-purpose hunk that makes every situation better. then again, it is important to remember that these are works of fiction, and sometimes the people who write them do it for escapism from their real world problems, so its fine if not every detail is perfect and "correct".

I completely agree to this, sometimes the way their written is brought out as stereotypical and wrong but Fanfictions as a way to cope is the good side of this. Although they are not physically here, we can still feel their intentions through the stories.
I’ve seen a lot of people hate on Y/ns for their given mental illnesses when they clearly don’t know this is how some of many deal with it. It saddens me they don’t actually do their research and just thinking we’re romanticizing ADHD, OCD, Multiple Personality Disorder etc.

i remember reading a lot of mystreet (does anyone remember aphmau's minecraft series?) fanfics and these tropes were STRONG in those but everyone was quite young so i think it's just what everyone saw as trendy.
i still read reader inserts to this day (it's just a major coping thing now, honestly :']), but they are on tumblr and the fandom i am in now is a lot more mature and reader is usually gender-neutral (my non-binary ass thrives bc of that) so i don't know if these tropes are still as heavy anymore.
i'm 16 now and i really wanna go through old fanfics i used to read all those years ago and revisit the wacky storylines, i think it'd be fun.
SOMEONE SAID IT. There aren’t supposed to be any gender roles for Y/N, they’re supposed to be the reader the reader may not be male OR female. I’m pretty sure there are a ton of ways to make the story gender inclusive. No offense to any fan fics who’ve done this, some are good regardless, it just irks me to see male and female Y/N when it makes no sense. (Feminine and Masculine make more sense to me)

Bro, bro, this is so freaking tru, and anyone who says it isn't probably hasn't read a lot of fanfic with y/n 😂. With a lot of fanfics (usually when the y/n is portrayed as female), they always have sad backstories, either they have a princess personality where they always need to be protected, are the kindest person in the world or are just plain mean randomly. Not to mention a lot of times they're rich or are completely overpowered. They're almost always good at everything (it's usually things that their love interests like to do), and almost immediately, they somehow get the hearts of everyone except the bullies. They're never normal or relatable at all; the only ones that are usually relatively normal are the male y/n or the y/n where no love is involved. I honestly didn't know I'd be this happy to see someone make a video like this, but I am so thanks😂
