In my opinion, there is distinctive difference between reading a book &trying to understand, for an individual, where in students understanding limitation is main cause. When Guru ma
Explains she does it with her spiritual mind knowledge. She knows the recipient's here students ability and explains in that language which can be easily understood.she gives background meanings so that we understand. This penetrative more than our reading &understanding. She knows students limitations through her spiritual experience.

Karma Yoga as a philosophy for developing Effective Leadership is rarely part of the usual discourse. So, for IIT to have structured this into a credit course deserves much appreciation. This lecture on Free Will is an absolute treat. There are several clues provided and assumedly would be an eye-opener for most. Kudos to the course formulator!

I am a neurologist and very much appreciate insignts she is describing. I wish we had such lectures in every med school. One point to note, experiment she quoted has flaws in its conclusion. Most of our actions are due to acquired reflexes. Brain rewires constantly, it is plastic. What you do rewires brain which then causes subconscious response to most actions. So even though subconscious it is still a product of what you have acquired by your actions. So you will be responsible for such result. Also recording from motor cortex is not useful as motor cortex is final output site from cortex. Recording from, premotor cortex is important. I explain more if one is interested.

Sorry to say this but Science is a growing child in schools and is still learning. There are many unresolved mysteries which science is still struggling or coming out with some theories which are normally not challenged. Many experiments of science were proved wrong earlier or even concluded incorrectly. My point is not to say anything against you or science, as without which, we could not have achieved so much. High regards for medical fraternity. The objective of my writing is just to convey that science is still a child going to 8th standard and need more learning whereas Indian ancient science completed its PhD 5000 years back. Much ahead.

Free Will is just a mechanism for the false self (I am ness/ego) to function in daily life. In reality there is no Free will at all. Everything is predetermined. This "reason" is a story constructed by the ego/I to make it appear like the choice was made consciously and logically. The ego jump and hold of the accountability of any actions as his own which causes bondage. When you [Ego] takes the accountability of an action, of course it is bound to enjoy the result of his action. The Ego is what suffers in pain and negative circumstances. In reality, Ego is not what you are. You are the 'consciousness' which is required for even the ego to arise at first place. As long as you are in the clutches of false self/ego, you will suffer from your so so called worldly experiences. Dive deep within and transcend the ego/mind/intellect and gunas, then you see what is left and reach the supreme state of Bliss. We must hear the people who have talked from that state - Ramana Maharshi/Nisargadatta Maharaj etc. And we must also really pay attention is that, when one is that supreme state of void (Brahman), there is no mind/intellect to govern the thoughts. This is a absolute thoughtless state. And all actions arise spontaneously (read that thrice). This is what the sages mentions as FREE WILL which becomes nothing less as COSMIC WILL. Then Your WILL becomes GODS WILL which is infinite and limitless.

if by using yoga Vedanta we can become free, but the will that drives us to practice yoga is itself not free. so the process leading to freeing is itself a process of cause and effect. So will it really lead to free will? or will it be just another layer of illusion leading us to believe that we are free.
