Thanks for stopping by and asking a question 😊Three holes is a beginners move and is done at the same site with a slight overlap to widen the hole. The larger the hole the less the tendency for the ram to split as you stretch it . As you get more proficient you can move to single punch holes . The sharpness of the punch also plays a crucial role . I have found that whenever you don’t make a clean cut the chances of tearing the dam is high

Dear Pulkit, the evolution of matrices for Class V situations has made Rubber Dam use for Class V's redundant. Today if i want a bloodless field, I use my electrocautery unit to do a bit of gingivectomy which then allows me to place the matrix. I will be doing a video soon on the Class V matrices along with how you can modify a mylar strip for Class V use. Thank for dropping a line.

    • @molarsystem

Aaron Sarwal . What you can do is release the rubber dam from the corner times to make it slightly loose and then push the dam material with the back end of a tweezer towards the tooth. The rubber dam should snugly encircle the tooth. Thanks for dropping by and using the technique

    • @thedentalcenter9544

Krishna Gangwani the advantage of a root canal or any procedure done under the rubber dam is that you can can work in a saliva less field with full concentration on the task at hand. Saliva contains a lot of bacteria which can interfere with treatment. Blood from the gums can also sometimes seep in and throw a spanner into the mix. So in one word the advantage lies in isolation

    • @themadrasplayers

Hi and thanks for the question. Once properly isolated the dam seals the tooth and the need for a saliva ejector is only to vacuum the irrigant that pools in the dam . If getting a proper seal is difficult then you can inject some gingival barrier around the tooth for additional seal.

As a test , use the 3 way syringe to put some water on the tooth and watch where the water collects in the dam. That would be the place for the tip of the saliva ejector to be placed. Ask the assistant to aply very slight downward pressure thereby creating a depression in the dam which will facilitate movement of the fluid towards the ejector.
