One of the biggest things I learned was to controls your breathing. I always start a race way too anxious, and taking long relaxed breaths in the beginning of the race helps you to run relaxed and conserve energy for that final 400
I recommend if you try racing the mile more often, to wear a more aggressive shoe like the Nike dragonfly over the vaporflys. They allow you to dig in more while still getting the bounce of zoom x foam

Good strat. My strategy for running a sub 5:00 is to try to hit no faster than 1:10 for the first mile, and then cruise comfortably under 1:15 for the second and third lap. You can def start building up the last 400, but I pick up pace a little bit with 600 to go and then proceed to build up the past 400. The biggest challenge is maintaining it for the last 200 meters. Btw this is for people to break 5:00 for their first. Hope this helps someone
The toughest goal for me this season was breaking 4:40, it took a lot of work and my new coach this season was trash, but I ran a 4:37 and went from being 8th on the 3rd lap to 2nd on the last with a 64.3 last lap and a 2:14 last 800, so yeah don't go out hard save it for the last 800 more like 400 tbh, good luck out there runners!

currently running against the best freshman in the nation for the indoor mile, andrew brown, me and him have been friends since 7th grade when i started running xc because he was already super cold in the 2 mile and then 8th grade year at their home course he ran sub 9:30 on a full 2 mile, luckily this year as a freshman their school got bumped up to 7A so during the xc season we didn’t race them but once and we didn’t have to race them in track, but now it’s summer training and we are gonna start racing them again this upcoming year, his dad is an amazing marathoner and his brother taylor brown is really cold too, absolute running specimen of a family considering their mom and sister are both also super good and their sister is a year younger then me and only 1 minute slower in the 5k😭
I just started doing distance and I’m new to track. My time for a mile was a 4.30 min/sec, and I brought it to a 4.10 min/sec. Though im more afraid for my first track meet, im running a mile, 2mile, and then a 4x800. Im not the fastest girl; but there only four girls on our long distance team so we all gotta be fast. 💀

Best time was 2:37 for the 26.2 and my best ten miler was on the beach as well. Lol. The mile on the beach was on packed sand. Not on that soft stuff. I can't wait to get back into it. I have taken off for a good 5 months because of work and for some well deserved rest. Are you a runner??
I have a friend we go to a small school but good thing ur school doesn’t have to be big to go d1 for track and he runs a 4:35 as a freshman he’s been getting about 15 seconds faster every year Ik it won’t always progress that fast but that’s still a fast progression

I run a sub 7 I got into running a couple months ago. If you train enough it should be easy to get. The best tips I can give you to acquire your sub 7 is to train by running a fast pace and holding it for a long time. Also holding your pace during your mile is important so you never want to slow down and you gotta power through

Remember right before my prime around jr year of highschool, did a 5:02 mile time and a 2:15 800m. During my prime, I never recorded my mile time, but my 800m was 2:03. Wish I recorded my mile time back then, but getting back into racing after almost a decade.
