Back then I thought it was incredibly stupid.
Now I just wish we could go back to that being the biggest disagreement.
Same man I remember when I thought people were fake an crazy for wearing Hollister. I wish that was my biggest source of stress again
Fr.😢😢😢
Damn, dude :/
I never found it stupid, it was interesting to see how differently we saw it. I always saw white and gold.
Hang on for the ride folks. If this trend continues we're in for a lot worse!
My dad thought it was green and brown. He's colorblind

Turn your phone’s “night shift” setting on while looking at the picture. You won’t be able to unseen black and blue. Even after turning the setting off

This was so funny. I remember this convo with my friend at work:
“Did u hear about that dress color debate?”
“Yeah it’s so dumb”
“Right! I agree. It’s so obvious it’s gold and white!”
“Wait… what, no it’s obviously black and blue!”
And we immediately just start cracking up 😂
What a memorable time
yesss literally I had the same convos in school lol
Weirdest thing... That black and blue dress was going around in 1999! I was living in TX and we, also, did this "challenge" in AOL chatrooms.
It's funny, in this video, she showed the dress several times, and I saw it white and gold a couple times AND blue and black, it depended on the photo. Light is amazing! ❤
I was part of a very toxic friend group at the time. Every one except me saw black and blue so they essentially called me a liar and belittled me for seeing it as white and gold. A non-toxic friend group had a fun debate about the dress instead. It helped me realize how awful the other friends were and I left them soon after. Still friends with the non-toxic group to this day.
Childhood friendship hardly provides benefit upon adulthood.
Here's the thing that's so strange that you talked about. Your toxic frame group and then you stay friends of them. I think people like you also have toxic relationships with their husband's boyfriends. Whatever I never understood people like you. Why on earth would you ever be friends or stay with a man who is mean to you? I never understood people like that. I would love to understand what goes on in someone's brain. Who is friends with someone who's not nice to them or stays with a man who is not nice to them. I literally don't understand that concept
@@user-wy4hu7sz1tI think you need to read the original post again. She said she stayed friends with the non-toxic friend group, not the toxic group. I don't understand how that's so hard to comprehend.

One time me and my dad got into an argument about “the dress” I, like a normal person saw the dress as black and blue and my dad saw white and gold. So I put the phone close to his face and said “you’re telling me this is white and gold!!?” And his face changed and said “did you change the picture!!?” And from then on he saw it as blue and black.
Good times. RIP dad. Miss you.
It's ALWAYS looked white and gold to me!! I never thought it was black and blue and figured it was an inside joke, people trying to mess with others. But it happened! It finally happened!! I saw it as black and blue! I was reading the comments while she flashed the image and it was black and blue! But when I look at it directly or focus on it, it looks white and gold. It only looks blue and black when I am looking below, through my periphery, or not focusing on it. How does that happen?! I tried holding the phone right up to my face rn like you described, and it did look blue and black, because ironically when the phone is that close it actually looks blurry and your eyes can't really focus because your eyes are crossed.
Originally a long time ago, it was black and blue
But when I saw it recently it was white and gold, then after a while it turned to black and blue again. i was so vexed. The people who've been saying it's white and gold weren't lying this whole time 🤯

Same! She said it was blue and black and I’m like where? 😅
Me three
If you zoom in on just the color people can see it the same way. Light brown (gold) and near white with a tint of blue. It is when you add the rest that it changes. People who see black and blue see it the way the dress was truly colored. In short just know people see things differently and that is okay.

True crime enthusiasts shouldnt over look how much consumption of this sort of stuff can effect you. Its bad to intentionally surround yourself in evil things.
Counsellors and therapists etc have to have something we call supervision in the U.K. it’s to help the therapist offload and check if things are affecting you. I can imagine that people voluntarily consuming this, do get affected.

2. Therapists don't practice what they preach since they aren't true masters of Stoicism.
@@DDD11239 I've read many history textbooks but somehow managed to keep my compassion alive. Being well read doesn't have to make you mean. Suffering is not an Olympic event. Someone doesn't have to win a gold medal to experience suffering. Yes, that period was rough in Europe, but you can still have compassion for others today. I read a lot and never thought I would say this, but I think you need to read less and interact with humans more.
Although, I'm willing to bet real money you got this from a CZcams video, not a book. The idea that 536 was "the worst year in history" is only about 5 years old. It has gained a lot of traction as a clicky title on CZcams, but is so recent I'd be surprised if you actually found it in a book.

That actually scared me for a bit because when you go down that insane rabbit hole how do you even know whether anything is real? 😂
I guess it's a filosofic riddle. Blue is only blue because you were taught to call that color blue. How do you know if you looked through someone elses eyes, you wouldn't see a completely different color scheme? The sky might be (what you 5hink is) red
Did you know historically many cultures didn’t have a word for blue? They just didn’t “see” it?

The fights this dress caused… our family was basically split right down the middle arguing about why the other one was lying. 🙄
Want to really blow your mind. Spend an hour doing things that are very fast paced and reactive. (Ping pong, dodgeball, tetris etc) then look at the dress. The next day spend an hour drawing with chill classical or jazz instrumental music. Then look at the dress.

I love hearing Brett talk. no matter what it is, she sticks to her opinion.
People see the dress differently depending on how their brain processes the light in the background of the picture. For instance, it looks to me like the dress is in front of a window, with natural light shining on it. Therefore, I see white and gold. Other people see it as artificial light, resulting in blue and black. If you try hard enough you can trick your mind into seeing both of them. It felt like my mind glitched between them for a second.
Oh weird. You just got me to see black and blue for the first time. I really had to focus on the black thing to the left of the dress and everything shifted. Dang that was weird.
I tried. Still saw white and gold.
Oh my gosh.. I always saw blue and black, but then I read this and tried to see in as natural light, and now I can only see white and gold.
Yeah I've always been able to make myself see it as either color combination.
Pretty sure it's at least based on your eye Chones and grey scaling; I also further theorize the more bright you see white and gold means they better your brain works better in being able to observe an area ignore useless info and highlight important info, I noticed this trend hunting with people and observing that the better hunters finding a pattern with how they see tied to their intelligence and how fit they are, every single healthy and intelligent subject was automatically highlighting objects into brighter colors and performed skillsets more efficiently, but I'm pretty sure it's just tied to a single section of the brain but in most cases the only people efficient using it are efficient in using all sections of the brain, and technically your eyeballs are your parts of your brain so that complicates how I'm supposed to describe my dataset findings.
I see white and gold

Its depends on what type of screen your device has that you are viewing it on. Turn on the blue light filter and you'll see. Some screens filter out more color which causes it to look black and blue or what ever other colors people are seeing.
Except my husband and I see it differently on my phone screen

It has been confirmed to be black and blue. What I am guessing is happening is your mind first reads either black and blue or white and gold, then it locks onto that belief and always sees that color when looking at the dress, then maybe an increased exposure to the camera makes it much brighter, making it like perfectly in between gold and white and black and blue, making it possible for your brain to trick itself into thinking it is a color it really isn't. I'm not completely sure this is true, but idk why else this would happen.
@Kyliehehe I still see white and gold too but we're wrong. I saw 2 short videos: "The Blue / Black / White / Gold Dress" and "What Colour Is This Dress? (SOLVED with SCIENCE)"
The dress is clearly black and blue until they zoom in.
Apparently our brains are compensating for the amount of light shining on the dress and interpreting it as 2 much lighter colors than it really is.
That meme annoyed the shit out of me. I glanced at it, was like "eh, it's white and gold, whatever" and GENUINELY do not understand how people see a different color pattern. I always thought the black and blue was photoshopped, but I refused to feed into the argument.
In another vein, I hope that this poor woman is doing okay after her husband got put away.
But the dress was blue and black, that's been confirmed. You were always wrong. That was a big part of the issue that made this whole meme so big. Even when the actual dress was shown in normal lighting and it was 100% proven that one half of this debate was correct, the other side still doubled down and refused to accept it. This meme really showed how everyone on the internet refuses to admit they are wrong even when faced with indisputable evidence
@sublimejhn I understand what you're saying, and it's definitely an illustration of living in an echo chamber - I just quite literally didn't have the energy to entertain the argument, and I couldn't understand how either side of the argument saw different color patterns. That was the part I was most concerned about. I couldn't comprehend how it was parsed into an argument to begin with because people saw different colors. It makes my brain tired thinking about it. 😂

@chrislong8559
That's actually the point of the Salvation Army poster. They intentionally changed the color and it demonstrates that things aren't always what they seem. Black and blue are colors often associated with bruises. People will often describe a bruise as being black and blue. But victims of abuse often don't show the physical signs of it, so they look fine to most people who don't look beyond the surface. "Why is it so hard to see black and blue" has a double meaning: the dress, and the bruises.
