A series of clips put together from a recent trip to Mauritius filmed with my GoPro 10, riding my 2022 North Orbit (9m) & Atmos Carbon (138) from late March until mid-May.
This was just before and during the start of their windy season, but the wind was still regularly blowing 20-30 knots, with a few days clipping just over 30 which makes it an ideal place for big air progression or to learn to ride waves on some of the best conditions in the world.
I rented an old surfboard from a local instructor to try strapless for the first time, and after a couple sessions in the lagoon, I hit some waist-to-shoulder-high surf for the clips you can see in the video. Next visit I really hope to progress to the big stuff and hit the famous One Eye on the strapless.
This was my first visit to Mauritius and I can't recommend it enough for any water sports enthusiast. I did film a number of other spots around the Island as well as a lot of other tourist attractions, so when I get time I'll put together another video about the rest of the Island.
Fantastic video ! Great job, great skills 😎😎
Thanks, Jan
Super video & spot 💯💪👍👏🤙
Cheers Ilya, definitely one of my favourite destinations for kiting
Last loop was sickk!! Right over her lmao
I sent quite a few ones over different people at various times on that corner... she was the only one rad enough to give me the 'fuck yeah' air shake 😂
Awesome POV🤙
cheers ✌️
Sweet moves Jason, I love that spot
Thanks, it's something else, one of the best kite destinations I've been, even if not the strength of Cape Town or the consistency of Brazil.
Very good control bro!!!
Thanks!
Awesome video. Keep full sending it! 🤘
Cheers Luis, always!
sweet!
Bucket list spot 🤘
Amazing! 😮😊
Thanks Alex
🖤
🤘🏽⚡️
He mate! Great video's! See you ride orbit both as xr7. What kite do you prefer when it comes to downloops when landing? I changed to orbit because i could not control big air downloops on xr .
I find the orbit much easier and safer for anything involving loops, including heli-loops. They are just more direct and you have more options for larger/wider or faster/tigher loops
Jesus holy cow nice loop.s How much was the wind blowing???
It’s usually around 22-30 there
What spot you recommend the moat in Mauritius?
I always got the best wind in Le Morne, but I believe that was also the time of year that it was best there. The North East coast (Anse la Raie) is amazing if you get a more Easterly wind (from ESE to NE all work there, but anything SE or further south is better at LM
@@jasonofmontreal Hi thanks a lot. What is best month to go there ?
@@s3kman the windiest months are July/August apparently, but it gets very busy in peak season. I was there from late March to late May and it was windy 4-5days per week for most of that, with perhaps 10 days over 25 knots, but most days around 18-25. It started to get quite busy in early to mid-May, but never that really that bad compared to other destinations. It's the best wave riding destination I've ever been, can't wait to go back!
@@jasonofmontreal awesome, just waiting next year definately go there
That place looks absolutely stunning. I'm so jealous. Some monster jumps on the little reef there! Excellent footage, keep up the good work!!
Would you recommend Mauritius as a place to go for kiting then?
I love it there, Mac Kiteboarding did a cool review of it too worth checking out. I was there from late March until late May. Not as windy as say Cape Town, but amazing warm water/weather and surf. Never wore a wetsuit once.
@@jasonofmontreal Sounds bliss. I'm about 2 1/2 years into my kiting journey so trying to figure out where I should take trips to (from NZ too). So expensive to get anywhere though - also has to be interesting enough to keep the wife entertained who has no interest in kiting haha. So many places to choose from...
Egotic video with agressive music not in line with Mauritius way of live😢
Interesting opinion... “California Soul” was one of the defining soul songs of the late 1960s and to me is a beautiful track to go with such a beautiful place. The modernised remix was to give the video a more upbeat feel that suited the sport of kitesurfing without being too over the top for such a fun, laid back place.
